So my kid took ninja classes here for about 3 years. And the first two or so years were lovely. But…read morein the past 6 months the quality of the classes has decreased for my kid. Not only that but the staff communication has become contradictory and frustrating. Some of the coaches are better than others, sure, but my kid did get at least one bleeding nose that wasn't spotted by the coaches that day. Repeated nagging on billing issues that were already resolved, email advertising for a PD Day camp on a day that wasn't a PD day but rather the national day of Truth and Reconciliation, disorganized classes, and the no longer availability of lockable lockers for belongings all contributed to a worsening experience. There is now a lot of competition in the kids ninja gym space so we will go elsewhere. Sadly this was one of the only facilities that catered toward the really young kids when we started here, and it really was excellent at first with good transit accessibility, awesome coaching staff, and more. Now, the formerly 1 hour classes are only 50 minutes, some days there isn't even an obstacle course, and the seating in the viewing area is less comfortable. Following this business's NIMBY anti-safe consumption space advocacy, I find it hard to encourage anyone to go here. I definitely find that a lot more parents are unsatisfied with the kids classes. Plus it is quite cold in here.

My first time here was great! I didn't realize they split…read morethe gym in two parts though - one side for regular gym/fitness class stuff, and the other side (aka the fun side!) was for obstacle course practice/technique/training!! ** I am so going back for round 2 to experience the obstacle stuff!** The shop is quite spacious for the size it is, and easily hosts workout groups for 10 :) This place is kept pretty tidy, with everything back in its place for easy access for the next group, and the group members voluntarily also help put it back They have lots of free weights and treadmills, couple of different sizes boxes, balance balls, and some other fun stuff not shown in the pictures (like the heavy tires outside!). The trainer I had for the class, Stacey, kicked our sorry butts to the corner of the street and back! Her great energy and enthusiasm spurred us on, considering she was carrying a little human in her belly! I tip my hat off to you Stacey! In a nutshell, Great place, great peeps, and a burning desire to play on the other side!

I've been to several different drop-in yoga classes at Yoga Within, and I quite like this studio…read more There's a variety of instructors (male and female), kinds of classes (both drop-in and registered), styles of yoga, and two spacious rooms with excellent visibility. The prices are reasonable, punch cards and monthly drop-in passes are available, and there are many other sessions and retreats offered via the studio. There is also a small shop of yoga apparel and other wellness related items. In my experience the classes are quite mixed in terms of age range and gender, and are often quite busy, so arrive early to get your preferred floor space. I think it's usually about 20 people per drop-in class with plenty of room left. The website outlines exactly what classes are offered when, with a calendar that's usually for 2 months at a time. I would give Yoga Within 5 stars save for the following things: - very few to no classes Fri-Sun from noon onwards - slow check-in, one staff dealing with 40+ people trying to register - poor soundproofing - lots of noise between studio rooms and from adjacent businesses, plus traffic noise from 75th Street 4 to 4.5 stars, there's something for everyone at Yoga Within!

Unfortunately it was a little bit noisy from the traffic outside. But other than that I would highly recommend it. I can't wait to go back and try other meditation or tibetan bowl classes. There is plenty of parking in front of the Building. The studio is located in a strip mall. Check their website for their schedule and extra specialty classes.

The owner Steve incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. After attending a few sessions you'll find yourself becoming proficient in the different equipment available. When taking semi private classes each person is given their own program geared toward their own issues and goals. Your neighbor be doing completely different exercises but you won't notice because you'll be focused on your own. Steve and his employees come around to correct you. These corrections tend to be very small like when and how you're breathing or that you angle your foot at one particular point in a movement. You won't get that with 50 people in a yoga class or other plates classes following an instructor. Those corrections make all the difference. The classes are more expensive than others but the staff is willing to work with you to create home programs. As with any fitness program much depends on you. Great place for ANY age and ANY fitness level (couch potato to football player)

I joined this club because my friend, Lydia, had been going there for years. As you can see by her…read morereviews here and on other Edmonton OTFs, she has definitely drunk the kool-aid. She challenged me to do their Transformation Challenge. She had won it a few years ago and thought I could too. I did everything they asked of me, including shift to a social media campaign to get the most likes. To many of the members surprise, they changed some of the "parameters" during the contest. I won but it wasn't a fair competition...I would have never joined if I knew it was ultimately a popularity contest. They never did recognize us, all the women who worked hard for our wins. I was asked not to attend to the celebration party. I was one of the two grand prize winners but it was all kept secret because of their failure to manage the contest honorably. I realized this is a very shady company that is much more interested in ego and money than doing the right thing by the members. The entire thing was crazy-making and uber-stressful. They deleted the entire women's contest and trying to cover up their mismanagement in the end...after they got their free social media marketing at our expense. If you want the proof, it's all right here: http://whereshegoes.net/blog/2019/03/28/red-theory-of-orange-theory-from-fitness-to-fight-club/ Make your own opinion. It was pretty embarrassing to watch a company that says it's all about community and health chose such a lowly, dishonorable path. Most of the members I was able to speak to before I was censored were shocked and upset by their (lack of) corporate direction on hate speech, harassment, and cyberbullying. I know a good dozen who actually quit because of this and many more said they would never set foot in an OTF. There are a couple of good coaches that I liked. I feel sorry for them but good people will never stay around here long. From what I see and hear, OTF treat their staff like crap. The HIIT workouts were decent though their "scientific workout data" is flawed and inaccurate. Ultimately, I know how important it is to support good companies so when I find one so completely toxic I can't be a part of that energy. Sooner or later it ends up hurting you...for me, it was sooner. Seems that OTF Edmonton just looks the other way if it gets them publicity. This is from the top. Blake, the president of OTF Canada treated me with total disregard and didn't even bother to hear me out. We had a 2 on 1 phone call where he and his marketing manager who both continually interrupted and spoke over me. They repeatedly commanded me to "get over it" and "move on" but refused to work with me to help me get there. I was stunned by Blake's lack of interest in what had happened in his little empire. It was clear through the 30 min conversation he had no idea what had transpired but kept spouting the same "let's sweep this under the rug" BS. They were completely unwilling to take responsibility and make it right. Management and ownership of the Edmonton OTF group are negligent and show zero integrity. You have been warned.

I frequent several OT locations in the Edmonton area, and this is my least favourite location…read moremainly because of the poor layout. This is probably the busiest OT location (no surprise being in the University/Whyte Ave area), but man is it squishy in there! When you first walk in the door, you'll notice right away there's a huge area for the desk and the seating area where everyone waits to get in for their session, but the area where the lockers are and where people often get changed is teeny. Seems counterintuitive to me, like you want to be mashed together like sweaty sardines while everyone (that's people finishing a session AND those coming in for the next session) tries to get into their locker at the same time. Similarly the 'floor' section (where one does weights, body weight, TRX etc) is quite small and squishy, so if you're doing a session where you run back & forth to the rowers, you risk getting an elbow in the face as you wind your way back to your floor station. It's positively claustrophobic in there. I also find the cleanliness of this OT to be the worst I've seen. I don't know how often these places get a proper clean, i.e. - floors and walls washed, and I think they rely on the orange lighting to hide the fact that things are stained and dirty. But when I hopped in the shower and noticed an inch of mould on the bottom of the shower curtain, and that the hair dryer absolutely caked with dust and whatever else, I was more than a little disgusted. I'd suggest going to a different location if you have the option, because the workouts are the same everywhere. I only go to this location when my usual is booked up and when it makes sense in terms of my other plans. Jasper Gates is the closest alternative - much larger and a lot less busy.

I came for a group trial class last month and loved it!…read more If I lived southside I would be looking at drop in passes or membership here no doubt! The owner, Shara, taught us a group class and I loved it! She asked us about any injuries and took the time to come around and check in with us during our circuits for any modifications required. You'd be surprised how 30 second stations can kick challenge you yet leave you with enough energy to keep going. The warm up with the bands around our ankels, knees, and thighs was super challenging but also somehow stabilizing and didn't both my knees or back one bit! I loved the teamwork and atmosphere. The location is a bit off the beaten track in an industrial area but not a big deal. The inside is absolutely gorgeous! I noticed a sign that they also have "cold baths" and a "sauna." Sounds like the perfect way to end a workout here! I would absolutely recommend SVPT to anyone looking to challenge their fitness routine!

The other morning after some local MMA fights (and maybe a bit of overindulgence in the Strongbow…read moredepartment) I dragged my face off my pillow and joined my partner and other local mma fighter at SVPT to see what the hype is all about. I train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Complete Martial Arts and Fitness alongside some of the best MMA fighters in the city, including a couple UFC fighters - they all do personal training at SVPT and only say the best things about owner Shara Vigeant and her facility. Upon my 9am arrival at the centre, I was greeted at the door by 2014 Global Women of Vision 2014 award recipient Shara herself. She was bright eyed and bushy tailed with a smile and showed me where to put my things. After taking a gander at the walls lined with signed glossies of winning athletes singing Shara and her trainers' praises, she had me sign a waiver and get right out on the turf. Our session started with a warmup. We did a bit of foam rolling, some stretches, box jumps, chucked a medicine ball around. I started breaking a sweat right away, but I wasnt uncomfortable. As we were working, Shara asked me about previous experience with working out, the gym, my jiu jitsu classes, etc. I am a complete beginner and have never experienced any form of serious gym workout or personal training. I was in for a treat! I had a great time sweating my ass of and hauling my weight around. I was amazed to see the strength and stamina of the athletes I was working alongside. The workout was quick paced and interesting. Absolutely challenging and even fun. I learned how to swing a kettle bell around, use some resistance bands, do squats with an elevated leg (tough one!) and even pushed a weighted sled back and forth - all the while thinking: My ass is gonna look great. The SVPT facility is incredible. Larger than I thought it would be and Immaculately clean. The air is fresh and moving, clean towels and access to water bottle refill station are available to clients. I'm no expert on what makes for up to date things at the gym, but the equipment seemed new, modern and well maintained. Half of the floor is green astroturf (all the better to push a sled across, i guess!) The garage style door at the back allows for natural light to come in as the sun comes up. After my session, I mopped the sweat from my head and headed towards the change room to shower and change. The beautiful modern change rooms were like walking into a washroom in a showhome - except times six! A line of sparkling showers with temperature controlled taps (not like the push-button, lukewarm and timed showers at gyms and pools) were closed in their own cubicles with private changing area. Clean sinks and well lit mirrors (even a little basket with some toiletries you may have forgotten) would make SVPT a great place to start your day and still be able to freshen up before work and taking on your day. (did I mention how clean it is? You know me... I like my public places clean!) All in all, I have to say I'm actually shocked that I appear to be the first review of this place! I had a great time, have nothing but great things to say about SVPT. Shara was an enormous help every step of the way, ensuring my posture was correct and pushing me to move forward. It was definitely a treat to see what all the fuss is about! I will make a habit out of this.
