This is a review specifically for the tennis club at La Manga…read more
The club is a sprawling temple to learning and playing the fine sport of tennis. The club consists of 28 courts, 20 of which are European red clay. The remaining courts are hard (US Open style Decoturf) and synthetic grass. There is a well stocked pro shop with stringing services, a bar/cafe and (amazingly) a steakhouse restaurant. There's also a squash court, pool, full gym and bowling green. The teaching pros at La Manga club are top-notch, all speak excellent English and provide innovative instruction and drills.
OK, so why the 3 star review? Well, I went during the off-season and the condition of the clay courts were in horrible shape. There was hardly any top layer and the sub-court was much harder than I'm used to. The results were erratic bounces and a uncomfortable playing experience, more like hard courts.
Perhaps La Manga is better in the summer, but then again it would have been much more crowded too. Oh well, it was still a fun week and I enjoyed myself nonetheless.
