We had a standard room which was incredibly spacious. Aircon is modern allowing various settings such as fan, heat, aircon or dehumidfier. There's a proper coffee machine like a Nespresso/Pod machine in your room the first two Pods are free thereafter 1 euro each a great facility and alternative to the instant coffee, kettle etc you usually find at hotels. Good breakfast buffet served till 11am at the weekends which you can take outside by the pool surrounded by the wonderful mature garden settings. We also ate twice in the evening at the hotel (which I rarely ever do) the set menu of three courses offering a tantalising choice and exceptional value at 20 Euros. Great pool length which is restricted for use from 11am which makes sense as if I had a balcony view I'd hate to be woken early though I am a early morning length swimmer. There's also a Table-Tennis table and Table Football. Staff are simply brilliant and most tri-lingually excellent what I heard what Spanish, Catalan, English and French. Finally it's a great location for the nearby beaches and town of Callel de Palafrugell which is five minutes away. In short, for a six night stay I find it hard to fault this place.

We were greeted warmly at the reception desk - they pegged us as Americans right away (well, my wife, anyway :-) and spoke in flawless English. As my wife had a part in the wedding, the desk had someone whisk her to the wedding planner right away - giving me a chance to scope out the amenities, and to find the outdoor bar. It was still pretty early as far as Spanish weddings go (the sun was still up, although getting low in the sky), on an unseasonably warm day - temps in the mid 90's. The outdoor bar area had rattan shades available along the rail, and umbrellas for the rest. The glassed-in area had a VERY powerful AC going, for those that chose to sit indoors. The menus changed somewhere between 6 - 7 pm, from bar food to a proper carte. The prices also jumped significantly, but well within normal limits - €35 for a four course meal. Very well done! I think I'd like to revisit this place - (perhaps for our anniversary?) - to really get a feel for it. If their desk and wait staff are any indication, though, I'll likely kick this review up to five stars. ¡Buen provecho!

FROGS & BIRDS SINGING ?…read more The wife and I travel often and have stayed in luxury and subpar hotels based on the location and cost, and our current European adventure has had many lodging surprises. After an extensively grueling internet search, we found the Mas Sola Hotel in Northern Spain. The photos of the expansive property looked promising. We arrived at the Mas Sola hotel with an abundance of parking and were expecting luxury but would accept slightly less. We were immediately pleased by the ultra modern mediterranean decor and the well arbored curb appeal. The front desk clerk was friendly and provided the general hotel information and placed that golden room key into my hand and we happily pranced into this georgous room on the second floor overlooking a picturesque manicured pasture with a duck pond surrounded by tall trees wedged up against the pool - that was a long winded sentence. In a distance, there was a light fog floating around green mountains. The bedroom was modern with all the ammenities including a jewelry safe, free internet, flat screen tv (spanish channels only - but we're in Spain, so understandable) and a top class bathroom sporting a bidet, which was a first. One phone call to the front desk, and an extra large mid-firm body pillow and bottled waters were at our door within minutes, things are going great. Took a breather and sat on our private balcony to soak in the views. Hopefully, you can visualize what I observed. We took a stroll of the massive property and noticed a few of the ammenities which are as follows: Massola Restaurant, tennis and pickleball courts, two swimming pools, playground, gym, breakfast chamber, massage room and of course a full liquor bar in the main lobby. Ordered a cold draft beer from the bar and then received a well needed relaxing massage by Carmen who dug deep into my aching muscles. The massage prices range from $45 to $85, which was very reasonable. No available Ubers at this location but the hotel will order a taxi service upon request. There are two towns nearby - Girona and Santa Coloma de Farners with many bars, restaurants and rich history. Spent three nights at the Mas Sola Hotel and since the hotel does not have modern air conditioning, we slept with the patio door open and fell asleep to the sounds of frogs croaking and birds chirping forming a tranquil symphony. Absolutely impressed by the hospitality, the tasty Catalonian-Spanish influenced breakfast buffet every morning and the great accomodations which were a strong five stars all the way.

Our room was situated on the second floor with a private balcony overlooking a green pasture with a large duck pond. Because there was no option for cooling air we had to leave the windows open while we slept. It was actually peacefully, relaxing to go to sleep with the sound of frogs croaking and birds chirping. The grounds were enormous with all kinds of activities to enjoy. The five star restaurant was just steps away and we ate there two times during our three day stay celebrating my husband's birthday.

To start some of the rooms we got assigned were not ready by the time we had reached the hotel (8pm on a Tuesday night), by the time I was able to take a shower, all the water had flooded all over the bathroom floor. When I complained they basically told me to take a shorter shower. The service was horrible, most of the staff were rude, the food was old, unsanitary, and/or plain unappetizing. Do not stay there. Find another place!

Room was clean. Excellent design and layout. Very large. As some people have pointed out, carpet was a little dated. Oceanfront bar and restaurant is great. Can't beat the location. Breakfast included with the room was the best we had at any of the 4 different hotels we stayed at. Would definitely come back. Only negative things is no onsite parking (it is ocean front in dense area) so you have to get a card from the front desk and park in the municipal lot a few blocks away. Did not see that on the website. We spent an hour in the spa which was pretty nice but really not the reason why we liked this place so much. Location on the beach, large, comfortable, clean room, great breakfast were more important.

It was literally a royal couple, our friend being the daughter of a Spanish Marquess (in fact his complete title was: and a Marquess of Tejada, Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice and Member of the Deputation of the Constantinian Order) was dating the Duke de Girona at the time, and for her 30th birthday, her boyfriend decided to celebrate a 4 day party at a medieval castle in the outskirts of Barcelona. So in order to stay close to where the main festivities will be held, we booked a room along with many of the guests in the Hotel Arc de Monells. This is place is nothing short of magical and spectacular, nestled in the medieval Catalonian town of Monells the building is a historical building made of stone but completely modernized inside with comfortable rooms and beautiful decor while maintaining its quaint and historical feel. The service was always fantastic, as a matter of fact, on the night of the 18th Century ball, we were having trouble getting a cab to come out to pick us up and the concierge gracefully drove us to the castle not even accepting a tip. Our room overlooked to roof of the new building which houses the dining area, pool and spa, a modern glass building with a lush green rooftop garden, it merges with the local scenery of green fields and beautiful forest perfectly well, without disturbing the feel of an idyllic place that you may find described in local folklore or tales. Our life purpose is to return to Girona, an area where many professional bike riders call home because the terrain and the weather is perfect for training for the spring classics, we will come back with our bikes and definitely stay at the Arc de Monells.

There were few dining options in the quaint little village, but fortunately the restaurant at the Arcs rivaled a 5 stay restaurant at a 2€ price - he Baked Cod and Salmon were delicious) Visit here, get to known the owners, and bask in the history of Monells and the surrouding mid-evil towns.
