I can say, without any reservation whatsoever, my PT at SSM Health Physical Therapy in Downtown Kirkwood has made the entire process nothing short of a COMPLETE SUCCESS. Kim Henze, my Physical Therapist, just might be the very best medical professional I have ever worked with. Folks, I turn 70 later this year, so this is definitely not my first rodeo! What makes Kim Henze so special? Lots of reasons! Here are just a few: 1) Kim knows her stuff! Extremely sharp! She never failed to impress me about her knowledge and expertise in the physical therapy field. Whenever I expressed a concern , she knew exactly how to address the issue, and carefully explained the recommended process to resolve the issue. 2) Trust me, this is a good thing....Kim is a perfectionist. She understands physical therapy requires a real commitment from the patient. It is not easy. Kim made it clear that when doing the various therapy exercises, keeping the correct "form" is critical. I love that. I don't want to waste my time doing things incorrectly. That doesn't happen with Kim Henze. She works very hard to make sure we, as patients, understand the importance of doing exercises correctly. I never felt pressured or criticized. Rather, I honestly felt Kim cared about my recovery. That isn't always the case when working with a professional in any field....yes, even in health care. Her consistency amazed me. At every single appointment, I felt Kim was 100% dedicated to my progress and full recovery. 3) Kim set very clear expectations. I felt her exceptional communication was key for me to achieving consistent progress and results. Again, the mood was never uncomfortable or degrading. To the contrary......Kim's approach to my therapy got me excited to succeed. I found Kim Henze to be extremely knowledgeable, committed and enthusiastic during every session. Last, but not least....she is one heckuva nice person. I'm not sure I could ever say physical therapy was fun, especially coming off rotator cuff surgery. I had many sessions there and did not improve and am in fact worse. I continue to have consistent and constant pains and may have incurred damage to my thoracic spine due to the therapy. I have had compression fractures show up on MRI and they were not there before this. I have also had no trauma to cause this, but there was some manipulation that I believe caused this. I know immediately after one session, I had the worst pain of my life and it continues now off and on. Like I said, they were trying to be helpful, but not sure if they listened to me about my pain level. People really need to be listened to about pain and I don't think this was done. So the main reason for the bad review is related to the business practices of this company. Usually, the staff would ask for balance when I arrived and was happy to pay at the time of service. I had a HSA card that I used and always paid when asked. So I assumed that my balance was up to date and had no current bills incurred. So a couple of months later, I received a letter from a lawyer saying that they were suing me for unpaid balances. I have never seen any medical company go to this lengths over a $190 bill. I would have been happy to pay my bill at any time if the office staff called me and asked for my payment. Well, the company reports that they sent bills and also called one time about the bill. I don't recall getting any of that, but it is possible since I had quite a few bills and was waiting to see if my deductible was met and if insurance was covering this bill. So I was given an extra $150 to pay now on lawyer's fees. In calling the lawyer, collections staff and finally the owner, I had no pleasant interactions. They will not work with you on a bill apparently, be advised of that. They will immediately turn you over to a lawyer with incurred fees. The lawyer, staff and owner were very rude and cared only about the business and not my personal situation and pain. I explained that I have been in chronic pain and now having to have surgery possibly due in part to physical therapy. They had no interest in hearing about my pain, but instead called names and accused me of being neglectful. Me, being neglectful of all things. A word of advise for this company, compassion goes a long way in people working with you. If they would have attempted to call me more than once or showed any compassion for me, I would have been happy to pay my bill. But there was none of this. I am still happy to pay my bills, but feel that it is very poor business to immediately send me to a lawyer and then have to deal with this added stress while trying to deal with chronic pain and the anxiety of an upcoming surgery. Even though, I do feel that the Physical therapists here are kind and want to be helpful, this has left a very bad taste in my mouth about the way this company does business. It really states to me that money means much more to them than people and being compassionate with people whom are hurting. It also is bad business because over a measly $190 bill, they lost any future business from me and anyone I know I will tell about this. Pleasing your customers and working with them would do wonders in creating good will for your business. These business practices just leave me being angry at them and never wanting to go there again.
