I have a Love-Hate relationship with the Normal chain. I love how their prices for certain brand…read morename items are genuinely cheaper than other grocery chains. I love how they have American brands that I would normally have to pay a pretty penny for in other stores (like Essie & OPI nail polish). They have a few make-up brands in tamper-proof packaging. And they also carry food items that other grocery chains rarely have like my beloved Cholula Hot Sauce. But what bothers me about Normal is that they have constant turnover of products. I get that they want to provide their customers with new products all the time but there have been many times where I have likened to a Normal-specific product or brand and then they suddenly phase the product out of their stock. I also don't enjoy the awkward fast check-outs. I get it, you guys constantly have long lines so you have to check out people as fast as you can. But I gotta say, it's very "American" of them to call on the next person in line when the person before still has to put away their card and bag their items without feeling like they're being rushed or holding up the line. Anyway, despite all this, I will keep shopping at Normal because I am such a sucker for discounts.

What I really like here is the quieter weekdays when you can sip your unique cocktails in peace. The drinks have nice flavours and I think everyone can find a combination of flavours they like here. The menu also shows through pictograms the sort of glassware that the drink comes in. And I've found that very useful for quick selection when I don't know what I want. By default the drinks served in tumblers have my preferred flavour and I stay away from the ones served in champagne coupes. Works for me.
