The Apple Store in Manchester, always seems to deliver the best service, time and time again, that for me deserves nothing less than a full five-star rating, writing this review on my brand new 14" Macbook Pro (2021), I feel this store always offers the best support when you purchase Apple products. All the staff here are friendly (floor workers and even the security guards!), and always happy to help and even stop for a little chat, most recently I was able to come back into the store, after noticing a lower price from Amazon, they were happy to match this price for me, the process was made so easy, I barely had to explain myself and was in and out of the store in a couple of minutes. I always prefer buying my Apple products directly from Apple due to their service, and warranty, the 14-day guarantee to try a product and return if it isn't fit for purpose, shows how Apple are so confident in their products. I also love how they have let me pick up my order earlier than the allocation window, and generally don't mind doing this as long as the item is in stock. This Apple Store is a large one, for a mall location, but what it lacks in having a big, fancy building, it makes up for in terms of being one of the best stores in the Manchester Arndale in terms of product selection and service and is always a reliable shout to buy Apple products or get them repaired, or even if you fancy popping in to get fast WiFi speeds while in town. read more

Had a terrible experience at the Apple Store in Manchester's Arndale today. Trading in an iPhone and was told that it would transfer to the new one within 10-15 minutes. Over an hour later, I was still there and had to go home and transfer it myself at home. I was passed between assistants three times - all going off on their break or whatever - each one trying the same thing over and over, until eventually, someone with some level of expertise located the problem. But this meant I had to go home and do it myself at home. And will have to return tomorrow to do the trade-in. More of my time and money and wasted because, frankly, the people who work there were not expert enough to troubleshoot. I thought it was poor being passed from one assistant to the other. read more

Is there anyone left on the planet that doesn't own an iPod, iPhone, laptop, powerbook or Apple product by now? Apart from my folks that is! Regardless of their global domination, it's hard to dislike Apple. Their products are stylish and a pleasure to use, their stores are simple and easy to navigate and their staff are friendly and helpful. What's more, every Apple store has a Genius Bar where you can book appointments with someone that will either fix your computer / phone or advise you on which to buy to replace it. I'd give it 5 stars but I think it's disappointing that their products don't last longer. I've had my Powerbook five years now and as well as replacing the battery twice, one of the Ram sockets has stopped working altogether. It's only a small thing I know but how come my dad's old Technics stereo from 20 years ago still works and sounds good and yet my laptop is crawling? Hmmmm. read more

This shop is no different than the others: clever lighting, attractive displays and fullof techno geeks/salesmen who know how to tempt you with their fruity goods. Yesterday i was out and about and my phone battery died (story of my LIFE) so i popped in to the Apple store to plug it in for a few minutes to charge it up - I ended up leaving with an iPhone 6. And i was very happy about it. I've been to this store loads of time in the past - i've bought numerous accessories for all of my past iPhones here and i've also experienced their excellent service at the the genius bar when i had battery issues with my iPhone 5. It's always great. The store is usually very busy - but you will find that the majority of people in the store at one time are just looking around or 'playing' on the devices and don't actually want to be served. There's usually loads of members of staff around to help - so one guy approached me, joking about me having to charge up my iphone and how i must use it far too much (he has NO idea!! ha) - the conversation led to me telling him that my useless iPhone 5 is due for upgrading. He explained how they could do it for me at the Apple Store and i could keep my contract with EE. An hour later i left the store with a brand new iPhone 6 and they even recycled my old one, which meant that i had to pay hardly anything upfront for my new phone, as the old one pretty much covered the upfront cost of the new phone. The hour i spent with Steven was great - he was really friendly and we had a good laugh. He gave me some really good advice on how to preserve battery life on my new iPhone and some great tips on the new iPhone 6's features too. Overall, every time i have been in this store i have left happy, served quickly and with a smile. What more can you ask for?! read more

My Macbook recently suffered a nervous breakdown, the poor thing. And so I trundled miserably over to the Apple store for the Genius Bar folks to work their magic. But pretty soon I was completely distracted. I ceased to even think about the little electronic baby in my bag. For a standard sized Arndale Centre shop, this place has approximately, I dunno, quadruple the staff of any other store in the mall? Nope, I'm grossly underestimating. Those blue t-shirts become a hazy swarming blur after a while, and while you know they're by no means understaffed, you never see any of them standing around looking useless. Believe me, this store NEEDS this ridonkulous quantity of assistants. And there's a pecking order too. There's the authoritative, tall and very slight girl with the iPad who seems to decide who gets seen to when, there are the charismatic trendy types with artsy haircuts who stay front of house and use their quirky good looks to their advantage in the sales pitch, and there are of course the IT types; the woolly hats worn indoors, the bumfluff beards (and that's just the ladies - joking, people, JOKING!), the junk food tums, the Buddy Holly glasses and the pallid skin... the experts who stick at the back for the Genius Bar and Studio appointments. Tip: MAKE. AN. APPOINTMENT. Seriously, no matter what time you turn up at this place, it's always full. Lunchtime on a Saturday and 11am on a Thursday are much of a muchness here. Busy doesn't even begin to describe it. But they'll engage you, they'll tell you exactly what's wrong in a matter of minutes and they'll give you a quote on the spot. Plus I found that throughout my time with the store, they rang me on regular occasions to keep me posted with anything different they wished to do. Other than being a repair customer here, you'll find all sorts of cool audio and electronic accessories and if you watch the screens above the Genius bar, you can learn hints and tips about how to get the most out of your products. They might not always be 100% reliable, but they're pretty darn good here overall. read more

Just had the worst service I've ever received from the Apple shop in the Arndale centre, We went in to change our i phone 5 cable (bought in March 2014 from the same store!) which had stopped working, we went up to a guy who didn't even seem interested in serving us and told him we had a receipt and wasn't interested in seeing it. Upon showing him the lead he basically said that we had not used it correctly and we had abused it. i then said that we had used it normally and it should last longer than 4 months and should be covered as general wear and tear. he then said that we had damaged the cable. I asked him outright if he was going to swap it. he replied NO i then walked out with out saying anything to him! I have bought many Apple products including the I phones, MacBooks and accessories from this shop and feel let down by Apple!!! I am sure everyone has been in an Apple store. You all know whats its about. Loads of Apple products, lots of people in the store. It gets particularly busy when a new product is released. Thats not to say its quiet at other times, its pretty much busy all the time. I overheard someone say that on a "good day" there could be as many as 150 Apple staff working on a given day. If you are going in with an issue/problem, your best off making a reservation at the Genius Bar - it can all be done online. Hopefully your issue is not getting online! I was there the other day to get my iPhone screen fixed. I popped in last week on the off chance that they could sort it then. I was told I needed to make a reservation with the Genius Bar which I did online while in the store. Unfortunately there next appointment was a few days wait! Anyway, I arrived at the Apple Store on the day of the appointment and a few minutes early. The guy checked his iPad and did not find my booking?? Further investigation and he found my booking but it says it was "cancelled by customer"??? I didn't cancel it! I am sure if I did by mistake I would have got a confirmation email about this. I did log out after booking to maybe it got "confused". Anyway, I was lucky as one of the Geniuses was able to see and look at my phone. It cost me £79 to fix - which is what the web site says. The first guy I spoke to though said it would be £99 so glad he was wrong! Looking at the web site, I think he was confused and thought it was an iPhone 6 Plus. read more

Thanks to a brain slippage and general incompetence, I managed knock a cup of tea on my five year old laptop. So long, beloved machine. After a few tears, I realised it was time to bite the bullet and buy a new laptop. I headed to the Apple store in the Arndale at a potentially inappropriate time - just before lunch on a Friday. Not a great move but it was either that or Saturday (aka. Hell.) I walked into the store and stood around for awhile, working out who I should speak to in order to get some service. I knew exactly what machine I wanted - I just needed someone to give it to me in a plastic bag. I eventually spotted a guy with his face in an iPad who seemed to be organising customers. I asked him who I could speak to and he said there was a 15 minute wait for customer service. And so I waited. And watched a lot of staff members standing around chatting in their tshirts. Clearly they had been allocated a different role for the day, however, if they weren't busy doing that, surely they should be selling expensive computers to waiting customers? I was eventually approached by a young wipper snapper who was nice enough but clearly didn't listen to me when I said, "I have been using Macs since 1992." (although his response to this was to tell me he hadn't even been born yet.) When I showed him exactly what I wanted, he also didn't seem to cotton on that he could just get one from out the back and hand it to me. Instead he insisted on showing me how fast the machine was (yes, it's fast. But I kind of expected that.) and suggested I come in for Apple support to learn how to use it. Cheers, mate. But if I've been using these computers for longer than you've been alive then I think I know what I'm doing. We eventually made the purchase and he then walked me over to another desk where he told me to wait. He walked off and then returned with a plastic bag. And then he was gone. I wasn't entirely sure what I was waiting for and eventually another guy at this second desk came up to me and said "Right, let's set up your laptop." I explained I would do this myself at home and the surprised Apple tshirt wearer let me go. I am still waiting for the receipt that I was told would be emailed to me. An average sized Apple Store, which always seems to be packed, I can't help but think they could have done with expanding into the unit next door when it became available recently. I do love Apple products (it seems that you have to love them or hate them these days), but that is not why I have awarded 5 stars - that is for the awesome customer service I receive every time. I know its not the done thing to take your iPhone to some back street mobile phone repairer - and you've really no need to. Even for stuff that is absolutely years old, they will look after you as a member of the Apple family. One can tell that theres a slightly different ethos at Apple with the people they employ, which is no bad thing. There are people with tattoos, earrings and beards whom some employers may shy away from representing their business on the front line. Recently renovated and the place still feels the same as it always has. Crowded and the staff seem a little pre-occupied. They stock the shiniest funkiest new gadgets and that pulls in the fan-boys and irritating children. Tables stocked with iPods, iPads, Macbook Pro's and iMacs. There really isn't anything special about this apple store to set it apart from any others. The staff are not what they used to be, less time to spend making sure you get the right product and trying to crowd in more people to the genius bar. And if electronics come in shinny, white, clear cut, genX, and modern technology packaged within, there's nothing more I'd like better! This will sound rather silly. When I was a child I used to love Apple computers. My first computer was an Apple, I was always obsessed with updates and upgrades from apple. Oh well, that got my nickname as well: apple. Silly, I know, but there you are. Anyway, in time, I've started to notice what's wrong with apple. Software problems, hardware problems, too many errors and few incompatibilities with stuff that you sometimes need. Of course, they will remain the best when it comes to ipods. And design for laptops. I mean Mac Air was awesome. Still is awesome. So tiny and cool. I pods, all the time it feels like we're moving so fast. I still my collection of ipods, and I remember how big the first one was and now shuffle is such a tiny little thing that I can put my music on and carry it literally everywhere. It's so cool. I become a geek when we start talking about computers and stuff like that, so I need to stop. I love apple. I came into this store a couple times and found the associates to be friendly and knowledgable. Once, I came in to buy a new iPhone (mine got stolen.. hurrah), and then I also came in when I was having problems with my Mac. I bought my original iPhone 4 when it first came out in the States, and Apple was offering a free bumper at the time because of the huge signal scandal. I happened to leave the country before my bumper claim was sorted, and they refused to ship it to me in the UK :( I brought this up when I was at the store, and the sales associate knew I missed getting it in the states due to my uni schedule -- I even pulled up my "battle" emails with Apple over this to prove it 250%. After that, he was kind enough to give me my free bumper in store! That was so incredibly appreciated. It sucks getting something for free, and then not getting it. Better late than never! I was very, very happy :) The only snafoo I had here was when the sales associate rung up my iPhone 4 the wrong way -- He rung up a 32GB when I had "reserved" a 64GB online (this was mandatory to buy one in store), and then he ended up ringing up two gift cards worth some amount to make it equal the price of a 64GB... yeaaaah. As an international transplant, this made me wince; each charge comes with a separate hit from the CC company, so his mistake cost me. read more

There is something quite silly and marvellous that happens to a gadget freak when they approach an Apple store, that funny mix of excitement and anxiety creeps in, what will they have, will it be as good as last time, please be a quite day so i can play with everything till my heart is nice and content. It took me forever and an age to jump on board the Apple bandwagon, and for years I only ever visited the Apple store to be scathing of the iPods, as they were in no way superior to my iRiver, I still believe this to be the case, but as my iRiver went to technology heaven and had a 20gb capacity I did indeed fall prey to the Apple bite. I used to accompany my friends and very techy cousins in here and sneer at how flimsy everything was and how rubbish it all was, and then something remarkable happened, my cousin was in the middle of a demo, and had to nip out to answer a call, 15 minutes later he came back and I was like a kid in an Apple Mac candy store. Beautiful, slick and powerful. Yum. Moving further back into the store and then there are all the tasty docking stations, which I really shouldn't be allowed near, as I am a total sucker for purdy sounds, and an even bigger sucker for purdy sounds coming from purdy housing. I'm off back soon, and I am hoping soon to get my paws on an iPad demo. Sometimes I do find the staff a little pushy, although this could be crossed wires; three cyan shirts came at me in succession within 30 seconds of each other. But sometimes I am genuinely confused by an actual Apple Store on the high street, and this one in the Arndale Centre is no different. The reason for this is that for every person in there to actually test out a product they might buy, there's another one or two people in there only because they want to quickly check their Facebook or send a Twitter update. Aside from this annoyance, the Apple Store really is a little field of dreams, full of awesome products that if you save hard enough you might just be able to own one of these things one day. Ipod accessories are really expensive here though, and I would definitely recommend getting unofficial ones from elsewhere. The differences in price are monumental, even for headphones. read more

Never had problems before but today my 18 year son came in and his microphone wasn't working. The service he received while handing his phone over was really good. They told him they would do the diagnostics when he picked the phone up. We had nothing to do so we called back about 17:40 even though he was told it would be ready at 18:10. We was told it was still being fixed. So we left and went back at 18:10 where my son was handed his phone back, he signed an iPad and the lady said you just need to set your phone up. You can do it at home. I said your not leaving till you set it up so we sat at one of the desks where he started set up. He had to wait for his phone to send him a code but it wouldn't come through so it said try again, still didn't work. So he asked a member of staff that also tried still no joy. To which the member of staff then said have you got a sim in it. Which my son replied when I brought it in to be fixed it had a sim in it. So then the guy went in the back and said they are looking for it. 25 minutes later they find it and put it in for him. So he tried again still no joy so he goes to the lady that brought it out and tells her. She looks at his phone and does something with it and then proceeds to tell him he will have to wait 8hrs to try again. So now I'm home after getting in manchester at 3pm and getting home at 7:55pm with a 18 year old son who can't use his phone. So do you think I've had a good experience. Not even an apology for losing his sim. I'm only glad I didn't drive all the way home and I made him do it in store read more

The Apple store provides other retailers with a much needed lesson in how to sell technology. You won't find pushy salespeople here trying to make you buy something you don't want - instead the staff are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. The shop is well designed with a good space devoted to showcasing the latest technology, as well as having an area for the 'Genius Bar' - which is essentially group of highly trained staff that will help you learn more about any Apple product, or troubleshoot problems if you have any difficulties. It's a very 'hands on' experience, with customers encouraged to touch and play with the products on display. Prices are very resonable considering the build quality of what's on offer. As with all Apple products, if you're buying new the price is pretty consistent across all online/offline retailers, so you don't need to worry about not getting the best deal in store. Overall a very pleasant shopping experience that other shops could learn a thing or two from. read more

This is a fairly new Apple Store, opening in the Arndale's new extension during 2007. The design and layout of the store is pretty similar to their other retail outlets: very bright and modern, with lots of items on display. Towards the front of the store you will find iPods and iPhones, all hooked up with headphones for playing with. Down either side of the store are the computers on display: iMacs, Mac Pros, Apple TVs, Mac Minis, MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Customers are able to play with these too; helpfully all the computers are hooked up to the store's wi-fi connection allowing free internet browsing. Just check over your shoulder every now and again to make sure there's no-one hovering too close over your shoulder looking at what you're doing! At the back of the store are displays of printers and other peripherals, as well as a selection of popular Mac software. Right at the back you'll find the Genius Bar (where you can take an unhappy Mac or iPod you may have for a bit of TLC), other Mac experts and the tills. Staff also have handheld point-of-sale systems - so if you're paying by card you can avoid the queues by scouting out one of these guys. I have always found the service at the Apple Store to be quick, friendly and efficient. I have heard very good things about the Mac Geniuses, but luckily have never had cause to lug my iMac all the way into town for help. If I do need to, I'm sure they'll be able to help! read more

There's something horrible and clandestine about Apple shops with their irritating 'Genius Bar' at the back. It's like walking into a Dystopian future where Scientology has taken over the whole world and opened up little drop-in centres that are all sterile and white. The meek grins of the staff who all look like they've been sprouted in test-tubes chill me to the marrow, whilst giddy converts all breathlessly titter at the array of gadgets, all on little plinths with tiny spotlights shining on them. It is a disconcerting place that has that mild threat of someone quietly smugging one off at you whilst you bumble around, head spinning at the prices of the stuff on sale, with their non-threatening curved edges and unyielding interfaces. It almost makes me long for those carpeted shops where people dive on you as soon as you walk through the door with a desperate look in their eye that says "PLEASE BUY SOMETHING FROM ME! MY PERFORMANCE MEETING IS LATER TODAY AND I HAVEN'T SOLD ENOUGH CRAP! PLEASE!" The eerie calm of the Apple storeworker is akin to a slow, throbbing tractor beam, gently pulling everyone in like spiders down the plug hole. I have a feeling that everyone who works at an Apple shop may just be a potential brainwashing cult leader, ready to torch you alive and eat your babies in a future stand-off with the police. Apple! So about two years ago my trusty old PC died. It was pretty horrific and long winded and happened mid-dissertation which led to a fair amount of screaming and crying when I realised I had lost EVERYTHING. Fast forward two years and I have been computer surfing relentlessly - living off scraps of internet and keeping my soul on various data sticks. This was actually working out ok, I got used to checking email where and when, plus the daily Frape and other such invasions, but not having a home for music, films and projects has been grinding me down for a while. After years of burdening and borrowing friend's computers I decided it was probably time to get another computer of my own. This week I cracked and went into the Apple store. It was expensive. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted as I've been researching for a while. The staff were great - they could see I'd made my mind up and didn't try to sell me any extras or push me into any insurance policies or anything. I went in on Saturday afternoon and it was RAMMED - but this didn't affect the service I received at all. The guy who served me was relaxed and friendly, clearly knew his stuff and went out of his way to make sure I was all set up when I left. I'm not sure if the staff here get commission, but if they do they are pretty laid back about making a sale. I'd recommend going early in the morning or late in the evening so that you get more time to fiddle with the gadgets and ask questions, I'd also take advantage of the training sessions they offer and the one-to-one service slots you can book. read more

Today I was here for a workshop on my new computer, having been a PC user up to now does mean I thought it might be a good idea to have a look and what shortcuts I could learn from such a session. Being vaguely geeky is a disadvantage I think at this stage as it meant many of the things I was being shown I had already got my head round and to be honest I was really hoping to learn some useful keyboard shortcuts not just told to look at the menus with a mouse/track pad tap. However, I say this it was at least a little helpful and out genius for the hourJack was helpful and managed to show us all one or two useful things. I will try another one or two of these and see how they go, but I think I was hoping for a little more depth. read more

I am an Apple lover for the longest time, rather I am one of those who argues with people to prove how apple is better than anything else in the market! I have an I-Phone, Macbook and Macbook pro - Yes this is how much I adore the brand! I walk into the Apple store with my fragile macbook who suddenly fell ill that morning (the 'o' key in the keyboard refused to work and the rest were throwing tantrums). The blue tee-shirt girl was friendly and gave me an appointment with the genius bar after a few hours. I waited and came back just on time to treat my baby (macbook), the genius took my lappy inside and opened the back of it and told me that water had seeped inside and that was causing the problem. I expected him to give that a wipe at-least, it is basic human instinct, when you see something dirty you just give it a wipe. But seems like they don't do ANYTHING without charging (disappointed). After this the 'genius' gives me a quote for the repair (150 pounds) , to which I said I will have a think and get back. Then I tried to turn my lappy and it refused to do so, which means the genius took my mac and screwed it up more than before! I was fuming but the extremely lovely staff said they can't help me without charging even though it was their fault. Bravo. Verdict : Utterly disappointed! read more

Wow, guess what. The Apple Store in Manchester UK is... just like the one in Kansas City, and probably everywhere else on the planet I'm guessing. Competent help (my phone got wet... goodbye old pal) and that was about it but I was struck by how similar these are wherever you may be. NYC, KC, Seattle, Manchester UK. No wonder half the people walking down the street are carrying one. Anyway, if you're in this city and worried about their chops at the store, don't. read more
