Stopped by during the week with my son. It was empty. The place is very spacious. I was in the mood for birria, and went in for just that. I went with only masizo not wanting to deal with the bone, and my son ordered sopa de tortilla. The consome the birria comes with has rice and garbanzos, which was interesting. My son ate a little bit of his soup and asked me for some of my food after I gave him some to try. He finished most of my consome, but I was happy he preferred the birria as he can be a little picky. The meat was very tender and had a really good flavor. The salsas served were just okay, neither the red or green were spicy at all. My only complaint was that the meat had a lot of fat... enough to fill one of the tortillas and make a hefty taco lol. Definitely worth the try though. read more

This establishment used to be in the city of commerce. This new location is bigger and great for special events, perhaps a birthday or anniversary party. They do not have their liquor license just yet. They will be serving pulque soon. Food was good and you get large portions. The boy enjoyed plain asada and al pastor tacos. They have al pastor without onions or pineapple just like the boy likes it. My favorite part of the lambs head was the brains it had the most flavor. I ordered the Gordoniz plate, it also had a lot of flavor and paired well with the salsa it comes with. The girl tried huitlacoche tacos which she enjoyed. Will be back. read more

Everything we ordered was delicious 1/2 lb Barbacoa (lamb), chapulines, quesadilla de Huitlacoche, agua de tamarindo. Highly recommended to bring your mom, tias and the whole family. I returned to try more things. The last couple visits I've tried their tacos. I've tried tacos de cabeza, pancita, asada and a quesataco de barbacoa (lamb). It was hit or miss, honestly. My least favorites were the cabeza and asada. The cabeza had a really strong game flavor. It almost tasted like blood or like ... bone marrow. I didn't enjoy it. The asada was kind of tough and had a strong beef flavor. The pancita was maybe my favorite. I liked that it was tender and a little bit sweet. I'll say that by itself it had an off aftertaste I didn't really like but with onion, cilantro, lime and salsa it was very good. It covered the aftertaste. The quesataco de barbacoa was excellent. It was a nice big size. I loved the crispy cheese. The barbacoa was very tender and juicy with great flavor. Oh, I also had an agua fresca de tamarindo and that was EXCELLENT. It was refreshing, made fresh, tart and sweet but not overly sweet. Perfect drink. I do still intend on returning to try more things. Their menu is unique for sure and I appreciate their food is fresh and I can tell their food is the real deal. I'm just not a fan of those very gamey flavors some of the meats have. Oh! I LOVE their consomé with the garbanzo beans. It's DELICIOUS and hot. read more

This marvel of a restaurant just recently opened in my childhood neighborhood and I couldn't be happier for the community. The diversity in flavors and tradition in preparation is unmatched by anything in the area. The staff was incredibly friendly and offered pro tips and suggestions for ordering and consuming. We were waited on deftly and never wanted for anything. I highly suggest the lamb barbacoa (cabeza) and you should absolutely get the flautas. The huitlacoche quesataco is incredible and should be tried by all! All of their salsas have their own unique flavor and offer so much to the dishes they're intended for. That's the first word that comes to mine when I think about Aquí Es Texcoco. this restaurant is a gem to Whittier and has only been around for a few months. my boyfriend and I came in very hungry and left very satisfied. I heard about Aqui es Texcoco listening to a podcast with Jonathan Gold, where he raved about the restorative effects of the restaurant's lamb barbacoa. So I made the drive out from Whittier to this new-ish branch of the small restaurant chain for a comforting lunch on a gloomy, rainy SoCal Friday. This restaurant is large with plenty of seats, suitable for large groups and parties. Since I was only picking up to-go, I immediately dove into the menu looking for something to bring home and share with my wife. I ordered two items: the barbacoa enchilada in mole sauce and one quesataco with huitlacoche. Both were delicious and survived the ride home, though I imaging the quesataco would be better if eaten at the restaurant before it loses its crunch. The enchiladas were delicious in the mole, and I can't imagine having the enchiladas in any other way. If I had to order again, however, I probably would want to sit down in the restaurant and have the family size barbacoa or the quail, which look great in photos! read more

This place is so awesome. They have so much to choose from. Everyone here is very friendly and welcoming. Especially Marcelino, he is such a courteous server! Great vibe. This place is quite spacious too. They have a wide variety of food options. The lamb they use is halal ( so great quality meat). The taco quesadillas with the melted (hardened) cheese is delicious (quesatacos). So yummy! You can't go wrong with these if you love flavor explosion. My dad really likes the barbacoa here! He says it's pretty authentic. Also try the guacamole, super fresh and the added chapulines add a texture to them . Overall lovely, lovely place. Would definitely recommend . The aguas frescas are yummy too the Jamaica is top notch. They also have delicious cafe de olla! Very grateful for this place! read more

On a rainy day, ordered barbacoa with consome. It was exactly what I was craving. Consome was very flavorful and barbacoa was tender and how I like it-not too fatty. we also had barbacoa flautas-plate comes with 3 large flautas. Also very good. Cafe de olla was a bit sweeter than I like, but my daughter loved it. Salsas are good, especially the green one. Service was wonderful. We will be back. read more

This is the best barbacoa ever! Definitely recommend to anyone that likes a good barbacoa. I use to go all the way to DTLA to get me some now its here in pico. The service is amazing they are really fast and friendly. Its a big location so you can definitely have your privacy. I recommend the costilla and cabeza with the green salsa yum. Let me start off by saying this is not your average Mexican restaurant with only tacos, enchiladas, burritos etc. hands down this place has the best barbacoa around, we ordered the barbacoa family size rib meat option and wow was it a lot of food. The barbacoa was very juicy and tender, not gamey at all especially for being lamb meat since other places that serve barbacoa their meats tends to be a bit gamey and somewhat off-putting but this meat was prepared with such care that you can really taste the love, it came with several fresh tortillas, limes, salsas, pickled spicy onions and of course you cant forget the onion and cilantro mix, everyone in our party including the kids loved it. Other items we tried were the Chapulines/grasshopers that came with some avocado on the side, hot sauce and freshly prepared tortillas, I have never tried these anywhere else and I have to say they were not bad, very lemony with bit of a spicy kick but very flavorful, definitely a must try especially for the gram :) , we also tried some enfrijoladas that were damn good, for desert ..yes even after that big meal we still got some desert but we all split a on order of flan which was soo yummy I wish I would have ordered one for myself. My final take away here is friendly service, delicious food, highly recommend everyone to come try this place, I cant wait to go back and try some of their other items. read more

Was looking for Mexican food, came across this restaurant on Yelp. I saw that they offered lamb barbacoa. Have been looking for lamb barbacoa since visiting CDMX. Also ordered a huitlacoche quesadilla which is like a very large gordita. The food was really good. The barbocoa was very moist. The quesadilla was made of masa and really thin and crunchy. I wanted to love this place. We tried the lamb BBQ, guacamole, and tortilla soup. All three items were a fail. The Guacamole lacked salt and they provided three tostadas. Just wasn't enough to enjoy it as an appetizer. Also ordered the tortilla soup. The tortilla strips used were heavy in an and had old oil taste. It permeated the soup. I tried the soup without it, and was a basic homemade soup minus the love. The star of the show, the lamb BBq. This too lacked salt and seasoning, We used the sauces provided, but didn't wasn't enough to convince me to go back. The cook on the meat was excellent, but lacked flavored or uniqueness. It was a hot (90+) day, and the restaurant kept the door open and didn't have the AC on. I remember when it was President Thai they had excellent AC. This made the meal more uncomfortable. When I was there we were the only table the entire time. The service is fine, efficient and pleasant. read more

Only issue was enchilada sauce was cold at first but heated up and problem fixed. Waitress was friendly and service was great. What can I say. This is some of the most authentic barbacoa I have had in a while. I had the half order barbacoa plate with the rib meat and it was amazing. I was especially a fan of the lamb consome that came with the order. The consome was so flavorful! The staff were also friendly and extremely nice. Constantly checking on me and making sure I didn't need anything. They asked if the food was good and even offered to give me a second serving of consome. The food here is great. Their barbacoa is authentic. The fresh papalao on top gives it that kick needed to take it the next level. We've been following this family for years since they were in commerce. Prices are moderate. The food is delicious. Family like environment. The locals have still not found this gem. I hope they thrive like they did at their other location. Their food is pretty great. Amongst the other dishes we love here are the tacos dorados de barbacoa with a side of consume, flor de calabasa quesadillas and huitlacoche. The salsas they serve with are fire.
