I've been to Araya's a few times, so they were due up for a review. I came for lunch and was impressed yet again. I was in the mood for soup so I tried something new to me. I had the tom yum soup - 4 stars Not too spicy, they weigh she commented on the four stars made me think I'd regret it but I'm glad I went with four stars for spice and perhaps next time I'd even go to five star spicy. ($17) Old town Bellevue off Main has street parking and a parking garage. However, the area is very popular so parking can be challenging. Service was fantastic. Came here for a team lunch since I have a lot of vegetarian coworkers, and they picked this spot. As a non-vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised--I still felt really satisfied with the food thanks to their tofu and plant-based meat options. I ordered the mango mocktail and the banana curry, and both were delicious. The curry especially stood out. Rice isn't included by default, but there are plenty of carb options--you can add noodles on the side if you're not in the mood for rice. Portions are very generous, so come hungry. One slightly odd thing: they had space heaters running indoors. The overall temperature was comfortable, but the person sitting right in front of one was definitely feeling the heat. My all-time favorite! I stumbled upon Araya's Place in 2023 when I decided to go vegan, and honestly, they made the transition so easy I forgot cheese was even a thing. The staff and cooks clearly put more love into these dishes than I put into my own morning coffee. Located right in the heart of downtown Bellevue (with actual parking behind the building--a literal miracle), the space is gorgeous and filled with natural light. Pro tip: the floor-to-ceiling windows can get a bit drafty, so either bring a sweater or do what I do and order a bubbling hot pot to act as a personal space heater. The Drunken Mushroom noodles and Hot and Sour soup are non-negotiable, and the two-layer chocolate cake is decadent enough to make a carnivore weep. Go once, go twice, go every Tuesday. One of the best things about this place is the top-notch customer service. They're so friendly and always ready when you need them. I kept coming back here because of them. I had tried several stir-fry noodles before--they were the best--so this time I picked Araya's noodle soup. I recommend choosing the thin rice noodles since they absorb the broth most effectively; I made a mistake choosing the wide ones, so don't be like me. The broth is great, but the toppings (veggies) don't blend together. The vegetables are fresh, but each has its own taste, which makes the whole bowl feel like a war of veggies. If the chef is reading this, I suggest they try stir-frying the veggies until they turn lightly golden before pouring the broth over. That way, the "raw" taste could be eliminated, leaving room for flavors to blend together better. The benches are a bit too tall for the table. I hope they can adjust them so that customers don't feel lower back pain while eating, especially for a soup dish. read more

We've been here over 20 times. We always order the Phad See Ew ("Drunken noodles") and love it. Yesterday, we had family visiting and wanted them to try it and ordered three drunken noodles, pointing to the phad see ew on the menu several times to the main lady who is always there. The noodles we got had smaller noodles mixed with the wide-rice and no broccoli so we told the waitress this does not look like the phad see ew we usually get as that has broccoli and no smaller noodles - she returned and said that is the drunken/spicy noodle we ordered. And we were informed for the first time in 8+ yrs of coming here that at Araya's the "drunken noodles" are actually the "spicy noodle" entree and not phad see ew as it is literally everywhere else. Given the "drunken mushroom" has no skinny noodles too, this felt off- like they knew what we wanted but it was easier to make this 45 mins before closing instead. Also she said it is not supposed to have broccoli in it ( that is all my kid eats from it and yelp pics show that both the spciy noodles and drunken noodles clme with broccoli). I hate being lied to. They also said they stopped serving dessert 45 mins before close and turned on all the lights at 8:58. The brussel sprouts were also cold and mostly leftover skins that had soaked oil with nearly no whole sprouts. Super disappointing experience at what is usally one of my favorite restaurants. This is a sour soup, as expected for this soup. Not much variety inside the soup, just tomatoes and tofu. 3/5 Lovers Curry - the groups favorite, good thick sauce with depth of flavor and appreciate the larger variety of vegetables. This does have faux meat plus two varieties of tofu. 5/5 Pad Thai - A bit more sour and gummy tasting. 3/5 Thai Fried Rice - This was a very wet fried rice, with a very sweet after taste. 3/5 Fried Plantain with ice cream 3/5 - A bit less creamy and more icy coconut ice cream - Topped with sprinkles and chocolate. - Fried plantain ended up a bit more on the thick batter and softer end. Thai tea - Strong on the coconut flavor, lacked a bit of a thicker body and the usual thai tea flavor. 3/5 Overall: Vegetable dice size is massive- in the curry avocados are cut in quarters, seems like one whole zucchini is also cut into quarters, finger potatoes are included whole. We went to Araya's as a party of 2 on Friday night at 7:30 PM. I love their decor! It is light, vibrant and friendly. We were immediately seated and ordered several things. What brought us here were the amazing Sexy Tamarind mocktails. These are so good without being too sweet! These were excellent. We split the Tofu Cream Cheese rolls and a savory chewy dish I didn't get the name of. Both were incredible, with or without the sauces they came with. I am saying this as someone who dislikes tofu and isn't a big fan of cream cheese-GET THESE. They are incredible and the texture is good. I ordered a Tom Yum soup with five stars for spice. This soup packs quite a punch. What I love about their Tom Yum is that this was very lemongrass forward and tangy without being too sour. The veggies that were in my soup were fresh. I love Araya's. Araya's is located in Old Bellevue on Main Street. Please note that they do have a small parking lot behind the building. Just give your server your license plate number. They have made the restaurant cute but it seems a bit tired and could use a refresh. I think it could use new paint and either a good clean to the floors as they are quite dirty. My family enjoys the Fresh Rolls and the Thai Tofu appetizers but other than that, the food is average. Fresh Rolls are so light and fresh and the tofu is delicately fried on the outside and soft on the inside. We ordered panang curry on our most recent visit, which does not come with rice: odd as I don't know how anyone can eat curry without rice. It has good flavor as they use a coconut cream or milk but IMHO the consistency is too thin. My daughter likes the lychee mocktail but it is literally seltzer water with lychee juice. We have had drunken noodles and Araya's portobello in the past. They are good but not terribly memorable or something that I crave. Lots of broccoli which is more on the raw side than the cooked side so lots of crunch, more than I care to have at one meal. We went to Arayas during lunch time, so my friend got the lunch special and I ordered the basil fried rice. I was craving fried rice smothered in chili oil and this place satisfied my craving. The roti was perfect as well - super soft and "buttery" - and dipped in my friend's green curry - it was amaazzzingggggg. I'm still craving all the food so i definitely will be back. Even if you're not vegan I would definitely recommend this place! I was meeting the parental units for dinner in downtown Bellevue a few weeks ago and, since they are on the 100% meatless plan, decided to introduce them to Araya's Place. Of course, they had to ask me how I found out about it? Um, well dad, there's this great app called Yelp where you can search for vegan food near you. He looked perplexed. But I digress! Our party of four arrived just after opening on a weeknight, and we were quickly seated and handed menus. Since none of us had been there before, we were pleased to find they have a separate menu (with photos!) of their most popular items for newbies. A couple of us ordered from that menu while the rest of us ordered from their extensive, and well-described, main menu. But first, the fresh rolls came out and WOW were they fresh. In a traditional fresh roll, you'd most likely find thinly sliced prawns inside. But because these were vegan, they were full of impossibly fresh and crisp veggies, delicate herbs, and tofu - all wrapped beautifully inside rice paper and served with a delightful peanut sauce. These were a hit and were more than enough to whet our appetites for more. Next came the main dishes. My son got pineapple fried rice, I had a "faux" chicken and mushroom stir fry, and my parents each got a different type of curry. It was all phenomenal. But I'm pretty sure my mushroom and "chicken" stir fry was the best because it was bathed in a sauce that I can only call sublime. If I had any idea how to even describe this sauce I would, but I can't. You just have to go there, and try it. And TRY (as I did, barely) not to lick your plate clean. We didn't have any drinks on this trip, but as we were leaving I noticed they have an extensive mocktail menu that I'd love to try next time. And yes, there will be a next time. Parking tip: for $7 (pretty much a bargain in this area) you can park in the parking garage just a block away, which beats the frustration of endlessly circling around Old Bellevue hoping to snag a free spot.
