Whatta sight! On an island full of beautiful geological formations, Arch Rock stands out from the others because it overlooks the water and spans at least 50 feet. It's a beautiful rock! You'll want to make the effort to get up the hill to see it. You can walk up to Arch Rock, but keep in mind that it's all uphill! Or you can bike (again, uphill) or do what I did and take a horse-drawn carriage. Arch Rock, and the adjacent Milliken Nature Center are one of the stops on the horse carriage tours. You only get about 15 minutes to check it out, but how much time do you need to look at a rock formation, no matter how pretty it is? There's a deck that takes you out a little closer to Arch Rock, and from here, you can take lots of beautiful photos of the water peeking through Arch Rock. read more

If you are a first timer on Mackinac Island be sure to make a point to climb the 200+ stairwell and take a look at this gorgeous arch. The arch towers above the water and is more than fifty feet wide. It is a good cardio workout to the top, but once you are up there the view s from the top of the island are epic. You can see all the colors in Lake Huron and the island is just immersed in beautiful green foliage everywhere you look during the summer. You can reach the rock by horse drawn carriage, bike or by walking there. It is definitely not to be missed. read more

This is a MUST see spot on Mackinac Island. Carriage Rides can get you here as well as a walk/bike ride from town! It's an amazing sight to see of Lake Huron in the Summer/Fall time and the Arch Rock itself is a natural wonder with a folklore backstory that you might hear about on a guided tour. Difficulty - Short set of stairs, but otherwise not an issue for the vista point. Crowds - It's a very popular spot, so be aware you'll be surrounded by people even on offseason (weekdays) In preparation for Mackinac Island: save yourself the trouble and make sure to wear some athletic shoes since a big component of the experience on the island is nature! read more

It was All A Dream. Before we planned our trip here to Mackinac I had already added Arch Rock to my list of things to see. Absolutely beautiful A Must To See. It was well worth the walk up 204 plus? stairs to see such an amazing scenery. The beautiful greenish/blue water was just so calming and relaxing. I felt like I was in a whole new different world. Amazing view and calming atmosphere. Once you reach the top you can enjoy overlooking and seeing the island in a better view. I'm so happy that I was able to see such a beautiful place. read more

Arch Rock, the Grand Hotel, fudge and butterfly house was our itinerary for the island. It was a lovely day .. cooler than usual for July. We debated how to get around ... my husband isn't a fan of bikes. The problem with the carriage tour is from what we read they only give you 5 or 10 minutes at the arch. so we walked. It was a lovely day but the walk seemed longer than we expected ... then when you reach the arch.. you have to climb 207 steps OMG. that was tough for old couch potatoes after that walk. We did it but what would have have paid to get a ride to the top ... ALOT. lol. plus it was crowded because tour groups kept arriving flooding the arch with people wanting that perfect pic and selfie. The reviews we'd read recommend arriving fairly early or much later for ideal colors. Unfortunately we ended arriving at noon. it was still worth the visit. read more

So, so beautiful! This natural rock formation on Mackinac Island involves a walk/bike ride on the Mackinac trail to get to this location, and then a whole lot of stairs to get up to it. It was worth it! The view of the water through arch rock was stunning. You only need a few minutes here, but it's definitely a fun place to stop off! read more

If you like a good photo op, stop at Arch Rock. Very unique rock in, you guessed it, an arch shape. The beauty is its accessibility: you don't have to climb stairs or walk a long trail to see it, although you can go up a few stairs to get closer to the rock and actually touch it. If you go up those stairs, you get great sweeping views of the shoreline and Lake Huron. The colors of the lake are unparalleled and range from a deep blue to a light teal at the most shallow points. Arch Rock is one of the stops on the Carriage Tours (highly recommend), but it is also accessible via paved roads for bikers, horseback riders, and walkers. You can also see Arch Rock from a different vantage point from the paved sidewalk down below that circles the island, Lake Shore Drive. This landmark might be regarded as a typical tourist stop, but don't pass up the opportunity to see it for yourself. read more

Such a beautiful place to visit! I could have stayed longer here. We took a bike and walked up the stairs from the bottom. There were lots of people coming in and out of the tour "buses". But still a beautiful place to go. RECOMMEND: Don't go on the overcrowded tours that are pulled by horses because everyone gets off at the same time and gets to crowded. Rent a bike and go see it so you can spend more time around the park and don't feel rushed. read more

Make sure you do this while you are on the island. It's correct,, it's several steep steps up so if you have mobility issues may not be for you. It's really remarkable this entire island. Take the bike ride too. It's not hard if you can ride a bike it's pretty flat and so serene. We did it on a chilly fall early morning and it was just incredible and it doesn't take that long and there are plenty of stops you can make (like this one) along the way if you have more time than it requires apx 1.5 hrs it's worth it. read more

Wow what a gorgeous place to visit. I can't imagine coming to Mackinac Island and NOT coming to visit this view. You can get here by bike/walk off the Main Street. You have to walk up stairs, I believe the sign said over 250 stairs. It seemed like more, we were breathing hard! Or, you can take a carriage tour and they drop you off at the top. Either way the water is so green and so clear, the rock formation is a perfect place to snap some memorial pictures. On a side note, they told us you only have roughly 50 years before this formation will naturally fall apart. Do not miss it. read more

Quick photo stop accessible either through horse carriage tour or by foot on paved well marked path. Took me 20 min to walk from town (or 15 min if you cut through back entrance of Fort Mackinac). There isn't a whole lot to do there other than to take a photo. Since the horse carriages stops there and is a water station for horses, the location does smell heavily of horse. read more

We decided to bike around the perimeter of Mackinac Island when we came to a point where many people had stopped and abandoned their bikes for some reason. We found out they did this to see a beautiful natural rock arch accessible from stairs. As most everybody else did, we got off and proceeded to climb up 207 steps to see this landmark. For those who need it, there are rest points along the stairs and people can still pass by. It is definitely worth the climb because this natural arch is stunning and you can see the clear, magnificent view of the water as the arch rises 140 feet above the Straits of Mackinac. Apparently, you can take a horse carriage that brings you there. Personally, I felt the effort of getting there made it seem more worthwhile. The sight is worth the trek. read more

This natural rock formation perched over the waters of the lake is close enough to town and especially Mission Point that the walk is well worth it for the views. On sunny summer days, the tranquil blue waters of the shore can be glimpsed through the eye of the arch making for beautiful pictures. The walk up is short but involves several stairs, so take it easy and enjoy the views on the way up. It's also easy to get to via bike rental from town and a fairly quick ride out. My wife and I decided to visit this famous landmark of Mackinac Island and made the trek by walking; it was only a short walk from the place we were staying through the Mackinac Island State Park. Once we got there there was already a group of students on a tour as well as a number of other carriage tours. Overall this is a great place to enjoy the view. Also as an added bonus they have restrooms and picnic tables unlike other landmark destinations within the park. read more
