I have nothing but good words to say about this shop, the owner Ben, and my artist, Aldo Gallegos. I first met Aldo several years ago when he took over on a tattoo I wasn't able to get finished by the original artist for various reasons. The work that was originally done was just fine, but Aldo really made the character shine in a way I didn't think possible. My expectations were blown out of the water and I was amazed by the improvements he made. Fast forward to 2024, and I came to him with a a few references, an illustrative idea, and a lot of rambling details I hoped he could include. Once again, he was able to take my thoughts and run with them to create a gorgeous illustration. We had a "clarity consultation", something I think every artist should do, to hammer out details and go over any changes I might want made to the original design. I was able to watch his process, see his color-theory (unmatched!) in action, and okay the final design. Aldo's application to skin is flawless, he takes the time needed to make a beautiful piece of art that will stick around for decades to come. Also, he uses Saniderm, which speeds up the healing process immensely. It is clear Aldo takes great pride in what he does, and you can only benefit from getting work done by him. I love showing off the piece and letting people know where I got it. It is only a bonus that he is kind and attentive, something that can lack in the tattoo community. It reflects on the tattoo shop and the owner, Ben, that there is clearly a carefully-cultivated team of professionals at Archetype. The vibe is laid-back but professional and everyone is friendly and accommodating. I will 100% be returning to Archetype, and Aldo, for my next tattoo. read more

I chose this shop after them hosting the semi-colon tattoo project a few years ago. The shop was clean and Chelsey was very communicative about the process (even after a little scheduling mix-up on my part) and friendly during the appointment itself. It was exactly what I had in mind ; she's very talented. They have snacks for during your appointment and you can watch Netflix on her screen. I've gone here on two separate visits for different tattoos. Both times I've gone to Eddie. He's easy to communicate with, responsive, and has we'll set prices. The studio is clean and each employee is great to interact with. My last session Eddie had setup with a TV and Netflix. We watched Joe Dirt and Jimangi during my session. Archetype has some great artists. Jespah Torres and Ben Shaw are both super talented. Jespah is especially good with portraits and black and white, but can do it all. They have a great gallery in the front and a totally professional and clean space with a cool vibe. I went for a tattoo a couple of months ago by Eric. I regret going to him as I now have a subpar tattoo that I am having fixed by another artist. It turned out different than what I was wanting, and the drawing seems amateurish. I had to go back for a touch up as he left several blank spots. After he retouched the piece I saw he didn't even get the same colors. Looks like shit. But that's what you get for a $75/hr tattoo artist. 10/10 would not go back to him. I am only giving two stars because the shop itself was clean and everyone was pretty nice. The other artists seem to have good portfolios. read more

My wife had a tattoo do over on an old tattoo and her work was so good she had Two more do overs. She is also getting two more new ones. As a result of Megans work on my wife tatt's I had her do a major one on mt arm. It was very intricate. Her artistc talent took over and was I impressed. I had to have a tattoo polished from another artist and I was looking at local people. I saw a drawing of a skull on facebook that stole my heart. I looked into who the artist was and it was Jeff Lujan. SO... I had the most beautiful piece done from my hip all the way up my ribs to the bottom of my shoulder. I gave Jeff my ideas to add to the skull and he just drew it on me with such confidence and the result is stunning! !! I am in love with the left side of my body!! If you're looking for a cute little 15 minute piece done RIGHT NOW, this may not be the place to go as there is no flash on their walls and their artists seem to focus on larger, more intricate pieces which involve a consultation before the artwork is started! Got tattooed from Jespah and though the work was nice it was incredibly uncomfortable due to the egotistical demands of him forcing me to apologize after my guest left in the middle of my last session. He then threatened to leave my tattoo unfinished since he felt interrupted so I of course apologized, fearful that I would have to risk searching for another artist to in the middle of a project. Would definitely never recommend him as he really milks the clock so be very prepared to overpay. Don't waste your money here, there are much more professional artists who are faster and genuinely respect their craft in Albuquerque. read more
