This is always a good sign that they are not desperately trying to palm off anything on the first likely victim to walk through the door. The range of properties they have on offer does seem decent, however, I was slightly disappointed by how many had done but were still advertised. I take it this is a marketing technique to demonstrate how good their properties are and how fast they get snapped up. Though, it left me slightly disheartened and feeling a little cheated - well, maybe misled is a more appropriate term. In saying this, considering my current property situation, this may well become somewhere that I frequent over the next few months.

Access to the castle car park is thru a narrow and heavily inclined road, wide enough only to hold one vehicle. For those that may be intimidated by this and don't mind a thigh burning hike, there is parking at the base of the hill. Take advantage of the trails that surround the castle, for unique photo opportunities of the castle and it's grounds. Make sure to visit the waterfall, pictured, that is at the end of a short hike off the main entrance of the castle.

From Dollar village I was able to drive up to Campbell Castle. The road is getting very narrow and you are also driving by residential houses. There are two car parks. The first car park is 500m lower than the second car park. It is all up hill. You still need to walk for a while until you are able to get to the castle. You are also able to take the bus to Dollar and then start walking from the village, which might take you around 45 min (according to the Historic Scotland guide). I parked at the lower car park and found a wood-walk path, which led me through some dense under and overgrowth. At all times I heard the sounds of a small river nearby. It felt pretty scary at certain points, but I kept going further and further into the woods, over stones and bridges and up the hill, until finally I reached an opening. The castle itself is a ruin of some sort. It looks fascinating from which ever side you look at it. The Tower House, I think, is the oldest part and might go back to the 13th century , if not earlier. There is a courtyard, a ruined great hall and the tower house. The original staircase was destroyed at the upper part, such you need to switch to another stair case.There are 4 floors, each of them similar in size and outlay. I could not believe how many "Latrines" were in the castle. On each floor at least one. From the top of the tower you have the most amazing views onto the countryside, towards the town, the woodland and the "hills or mountains". It is seriously an amazing adventure. On the bottom floor you can find a small tea room where you are able to get a cup and a sachet and make yourself your own tea. One toilet for everybody (clean so). The castle is not the end of the walk, but might only be the beginning. There are so many footpaths to follow so that it can definitely be another long day out in the hills including a proper hike next time. I will be back!

And if that doesn't, perhaps reading some of the descriptive paper cards in the window will put other off. It this is the case, it truly is a shame. This is a minuscule, letting agency that has been here for years. While it clearly doesn't look like much (particularly compared to the shiny, new Lets Direct next door) it is very friendly, personable and completely people orientated. If you explain what you're looking, in what price range and where abouts you'll be offered up all the likely candidates they have. Furthermore, they'll let you know about anything which with is soon become available but is not yet advertised. If you fail to find something suitable from this selection, then they'll keep you on their books and phone you pronto if anything comes up. Excellent, indeed! For those of you who are slightly more faint hearted it is worth keeping in mind that some of the properties they offer are very much on the budget end of things. So, if you're after a big, swish, shiny, new pad this place probably isn't your best bet.

The staff are ever so friendly, professional and understanding! If you do ever happen to have an issue with your accommodation, it is addressed as promptly as is able! It's always usually the same workmen that they use, which makes me feel at ease, knowing I'm not always gonna get a Stranger, if there ever is an issue! I've always found the staff easy to talk to and approach about anything or any of my concerns! At the same time though, i wouldn't ever take their kindness & helpfulness as a form of weakness! You no doubt will be held to account, just like any other landlord! All i can say is after 4 tenancies, with gha, with knights i got/found my 1st home! I can't recommend them highly enough, even my friends tell me that im so lucky to have a landlord like them & that I landed on my feet with them! That's comments coming from my friends! Designworks seems up to scratch with current trends, with a recurring overturn of stock, and a place to go if you are a higher earner and want to treat yourself to something plush for your house. They have an extensive fabric collection for couches and curtains to the back of the shop and lots of glorious Edwardian-styled brand spanking new cabinets. At the moment there is an apparent earthy, mother nature inspired theme with viney, twiggy house ornaments, tan couches, stylish crockery with blossom printed on it and leafy coloured cushions. Seems to be common of the recent recession that everything from adverts to house decorations is styled to look organic and innocent, but it's a nice touch if you're looking for a distraction from work stresses. When I asked the girl behind the counter if she sold anything small, ornamental and affordable for Mother's Day I accidently slurred my words because I was exhausted and said "Do you smell?" rather than "sell", agh! Lord only knows how my words ended up in such a mismatch but she just laughed and was really nice, very helpful. And in answer to my question, they have a variety of vases and delicately adorned modern frames should you desire anything for a classy gift! First off, I have never lived here…read more I have however spent the best part of the last year of my life here, as my missus does. It's super close to Caledonian University and Buchanan Bus Station which is a plus. It's not so close to any supermarkets though, with Sainsburys on Buchanan Street being the closest. The walk back up the hill can be a nightmare if you have even a few 2ltr bottles of juice. The rooms are hit and miss, but generally good with decent kitchen facilities and a fairly roomy living area. The rooms themselves aren't much bigger than a bedroom. The prices are reasonable and any maintenance needed on the rooms is always taken care of fairly quickly. It's pretty quiet place, nowhere near as rowdy as other student accommodation I have been to. It's probably because of the high volume of international students who attend Caledonian who are here to work hard and get on with their work, not party 24/7. Decent student accommodation.

Having dealt with letting agents and the horrors of student flats since then, Victoria Hall now seems so simple and unproblematic - it certainly fulfils its intention of easing students into independent living. Although it seemed very expensive at the time, when you work out what you get for that it isn't too bad at all and it is the cheapest of this type of accommodation in Glasgow yet, I believe, one of the best. As any student of any university can apply, you can share a flat with your friends who perhaps did not attend the same uni as you. Ah part of me wishes I could go back to that slightly less responsible time.
