I took the kids to this rink twice last weekend, to try their luck on the ice for the first time…read more They adored it- it turned them into instant fans. They were especially won over by the loud "musique classique" that they played (although it was contemporary popular music, I don't know how that could be confused with classical music... ?) It was an enormous rink with a large, warm dressing room. When one of the kids fell and hit his head (albeit with a helmet) an attendant swiftly brought him to the nurse to put ice on his head (ironic?). Overall, a fun experience. I'll take the kids back until they are a bit more stable on the ice when I can take them to a more quaint (yet more crowded) rink closer to the center of Paris.

There is no way you would ever know this park existed unless you had a kid in the neighborhood…read moreand/or lived in the surrounding buildings on this remote side street. It took us two years to learn about it and only did once the parents of a child at my kid's crèche gave us a playdate there one afternoon. Since that day we refer to the park as Valentina's park. And it wasn't until I added the biz on Yelp that I thought to learn its real name. This park is a great, compact alternative to the sprawling but still packed park Villemin on the canal. There's a slide, some jungle-y gym structure, rocking horses and a twirly thing with seats. Just enough but not too much stimulation. In the summer the park is full of parents and kids from the hood making it the "Cheers" of playgrounds as you're sure to always find some friendly familiar faces there.
This is a pretty new indoor soccer facility for playing soccer with teams of 5. It's not bad - a…read morelittle bit in the ghetto though... The facility is nice with lots of fields - fairly well insulated against the cold (who knows for when it will be hot...) and it costs 100 EUR/hour to rent one. The locker rooms and showers are clean with lockers where you can put your own lock. No water pressure though... It was really in the middle of nowhere before but now it is only 7 minutes walking from the Metro Front Populaire - but bring directions because without them you will never find the place - it is in the middle of a bleak industrial zone.
I started going to this place in the fall for soccer matches with my colleagues. While the pricing…read moremay feel a little bit high for renting an indoor soccer field, they at least do their best to make you feel like you are getting what you paid for. There are about 10 fields available for rent and the price is 100 euros per hour you use the field - you have to call and reserve in advance. After that, there are nice locker rooms, showers, and a full bar with beer by the meter for 20 euros. They also make pizzas, hot dogs, and have lots of snacks for those who work up an appetite during the match. Also, there are PS3 stations for those who want to play a quick FIFA match before or after hitting the field. The general decor is pretty classy and it creates a nice ambiance. One complaint is that given the fact that this place sells soccer equipment, they could at least provide the players with equipment in good condition when renting a field - my goalie gloves were pretty ragged. Overall, it's a great spot. However, I do not know what the temperature will be like in the Summer because I have only played there in fall/winter but I recommend bringing some warm gear if you are going to play in the colder months.

But, walking up to get the Square Louise Michel church was a like mini hike up a flight of stairs. You could also walk along a pathway and I think there was a mini cable car (something like that) to bring you up and down too to the church. I remembered that during the walk up...the area smelled pretty bad (possibly a urine smell)! When I finally got up to the top, near the church the area was pretty littered with papers, etc. So it was a bit dirty. Sadly, that's why I had to give a low yelp rating. NOTE: I remember that before walking towards Square Louise Michel church, there are a few souvenir shops in the area that sold stuff at cheap prices! Always be sure to recheck if the item you brought is in your bag, because someone from our tour group almost got jibbed (i.e. the cashier/shop owner would replace the item you brought for junk!)
