On our last day, we stumbled across this little grocery store in the heart of Mainz and it was honestly one of the better ones we found! Like most European supermarkets it was small with winding aisles, but this one was super clean, easy to traverse, and well stocked. We took it all in and then concluded with purchasing some still water for the evening. The only reason it's four and not five stars is that like most places finding cold water was hard and it was unfortunately the same here. Totally a cultural thing, but I'd love the option for some chilled beverages.

Okay, while my German isn't that great, I did like the opportunity to check out a comic book store,…read moreparticularly since all of the comics were in German. Mind you, don't expect to find a collection of those cool French comics that you tend to find in Brussel, rather you are simply going to find your stereotypical American comics, though they are in German. There was quite a large selection available, and I did spend a few minutes having a look around. However, as it turned out, pretty much most of the comics available here were also available in English back home so there was nothing that really grabbed my attention.

Kaufhof is the German equivalent of Macy's. They have a good selection of name brands and the…read moredisplays are nice, but the building is just old. And let me tell you about parking . . . I mean it's standard European mall parking, even if you have a compact car, it's still hard to park. You don't have the same space as you would as you let's say parking at Pentagon City mall.

My favorite section would be the grocery store, which is located in the basement. When I go here, I usually buy my mustard (Lowensenf Extra) which is in a metal tube. This is not common in North America. I also purchase the light curry-ketchup and Quark (the light one with fine herbs). On one visit, I was fortunate enough to buy an illustrated German Dictionary and I paid only 3 Euros for it. This was a steal. Whenever I go back to Mainz, I walk through to see many of the amazing deals that Karstadt offers.
