I'm honestly surprised by all the great reviews because my experience was completely different. Maybe I came on an off night, but this was some of the most disappointing sushi I've had in a long time. The quality just wasn't there, and the food took a very very long time to come out. They only had one server working on a busy Sunday evening, which clearly wasn't her fault, she was friendly and did the best she could under the circumstances. The atmosphere also felt a bit dull and lacked the energy you'd expect from a sushi restaurant. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience, especially for a restaurant on Ventura Boulevard. I know I'm known on here for reviewing curries and Indian/Pakistani food, but let me be very clear, I have had the sushi that LA has to offer, and freshness and attention to detail, hospitality, as well as atmosphere are vital to my experience and if I could send everyone to Aria sushi, I would. When it comes to date night, Aria has proven itself time and time again as our top sushi destination. The atmosphere is modern and clean, yet warm and inviting. The staff is INCREDIBLE! James the owner couldn't be a sweeter guy and if you get the privilege to interface with him, I PROMISE he will leave you smiling as you exit the premises. There is always ample parking in front or across the street, but we now know that they also have designated parking spots behind the restaurant as well. As far as food quality goes, we have sampled everything from nobu to all of the local options that will remain nameless due to their inconsistent taste as well as sub par service. This place takes the top spot when it comes to freshness. We have all been to sushi restaurants that have items that taste a little "fishy" (pardon the pun). I can't for the life of me figure out how these guys NAIL IT every single time in providing us with quality fish and other food that is so fresh, you'll swear you're on a boat on the shores of Japan. I haven't had a single piece of fish from here that I didn't think was absolutely perfect in terms of flavor and freshness. The other wild card that I will mention food wise is the RAMEN! Their Chashu Men is absolutely to die for. Pork cooked to perfection, broth as flavorful as one palate can stand, and noodles a gorgeous texture and white in color with a unique flavor I had yet to taste in the ramen world. NOTE: I order mine with no seaweed or seaweed on the side because I'm not a huge fan of that in my ramen. 2nd NOTE: I love spicy food, but I order "Spicy" and not "Very Spicy". They have a spicy concoction that is Korean made that is pure capsaicin. If you're into that, get it on the side, but be ready to sweat and to leave your body for about 10 minutes or so. All in all, the service staff, the management and the owners all care so much about your dining experience and are so friendly that I'd say it's about as close to perfection at a local haunt as I could recommend. To top it all off, the prices are extremely affordable and when you get your bill, chances are, you'll be left wondering if maybe they took an item or two off, and on occasion, you'd be right! That's just the type of place this is. They love their customers and in turn, I'm sure you'll LOVE eating here. read more

The Res Hot Rod roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and red peppers and jalapeños was excellent!! Each ingredient was fresh and very tasty. The veggie tempura was DELICIOUS and fried to perfection. We really like sushi and live in this neighborhood and had never heard of this restaurant on Ventura Blvd so thought we'd give it a shot. Parking lot behind the store so didn't have to try to find a meter on Ventura as there were none open ones near the restaurant. We had an early dinner and it wasn't crowded which was nice, and one nice thing is that unlike many other sushi restaurants in the area they have multiple tv sets so my male friend and I got to watch football and basketball while our wives talked more The menu is large with lots of fun names such as Marilyn Mon Roll, which we ordered and was good. Our server Mahta was amazing! Friendly, kind, and gave great suggestions. The other man working (maybe the owner) was also lovely and very hospitable. They have a happy hour that starts at 5pm that we'll need to come back for. The rolls we got were delicious along with the shrimp tempura and seaweed salad. Formerly Karma Sushi Bar, Aria is a recent addition to Ventura Blvd in the Sherman Oaks area. The carpaccio and crudo options are delish. I recommend the Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio, Albacore Sashimi with Crispy Onion and Yellowtail Yuzu Sashimi. All great to share, and oh so fresh with delicious sauce and garnish. Service is efficient, the place is new and clean, and there's interior and exterior seating. As for the cons, their restroom sink was halfway flooded and they forgot one of our dishes. To their credit, they made efforts to make things right for us, which we truly appreciated. Parking is in the back (look for the Aria parking signs) or else you can find metered street parking out front. read more
