A lovely little local library branch! Conveniently located in Virginia Highlands Park, there is a free parking lot right outside. Also, this library is right by a fenced in playground and a sprayground that is super fun in the summer. A one stop shop! There is a kids section here with some toys for the kids to play and plenty of books. Also, they have crayons and paper available and several kid size tables and even a tiny couch- very cute. There is one designated kids computer as well with headphones! Ms. Karen does the children's programming and hosts a great story time on Thursday mornings from 10:30-11. If you have a little one you should check it out! Stories and songs for kids. Best for the preschool and under crowd. The librarians here are all kind and very helpful. Stop by the front desk for a stamp on your kid's hand! Don't forget about summer reading too. There is a bathroom located in the lobby as well as a vending machine. This library closed in March 2020 and never reopened. As of January 2021, there's still been no public discussion of reopening it in the future, and the county library system hasn't responded to any of the people in the the local community about when or whether it might reopen someday. The only emails we've received from the county library director have been about her favorite Christmas songs and her pet political causes, so she doesn't seem to know or care that people in the community want access to books. The hours for this closed location should be removed because anyone showing up and expecting to use a library will be disappointed. It's just an abandoned building where the county keeps a large container to drop off glass for recycling. (Arlington discontinued curbside recycling pickup of glass in April 2019, so the abandoned library is being used as one of the dropoff sites. Recyclable glass of any color can be dropped off 24/7 in the dumpster-sized bin.) read more

Small library--one of the smaller ones that I've been in--with a fairly limited selection. It's also oddly difficult to find if you're searching for it for the first time. On the plus side, I think it is safer and more family-friendly than some libraries which I've visited. The Arlington library system doesn't seem to have a feature on Overdrive to recommend new books, which is annoying. And they don't seem too receptive to buying new recommended titles. It is so handy that there is a book coral to make purchases at inexpensive prices. I prefer to buy a book rather than a card for Birthdays or holidays or just because. It is a monetary donation to the library and great savings for me. I like that one can add a few pieces to their puzzle that they change up often and have out on a table by the entrance. It is convenient to reserve dvd's or books online or by phone and then pick items up. read more

It's a lovely neighborhood library with lots of great programs. One of the most popular ones that I've seen is meeting with Arlington board members on Mondays. If you want a bigger selection of books and media, Central would be a better choice, but you can put holds on books from all of Arlington and pick them up here, which is what I do. Having the summer off means I have time on my hands and one of my favorite ways to whittle that away is with a good book. This is a smaller location within the Arlington County Library System, but it definitely meets my current needs for summer reading material. Upon my first visit, a friendly woman behind the front desk signed me up for a card and gave me a brief tour of where I could find things. There is a large children's section and they do regular programming that is child-oriented, which is usually advertised on flyers on the door or in the adjoining Aurora Hills Community Center. I have found several books specifically at this location that I have been looking for, but do keep in mind you can search the entire county-wide system and have the book shipped to this location. They will notify you when it's available for pickup. FYI, this location does have DVDs but does not have music CDs, which I often use to enhance my digital music collection. I do not think there is a limit on the number of items you can check out at one time. The self-scan check-out is a breeze. I appreciate how it prints a receipt with your book due dates on it, but they also send you a reminder email a few days before the books are due.Check out lengths are 3 weeks , but it's super easy to renew something online. I like how they shelve new books in a separate area (on your right when you walk in), and how they list what is coming to the "new" section the following month. The location has sufficient parking, but, for me personally, it is a nice walk there-about 10 minutes-so I prefer to take advantage of that in the warmer months. There's a spray park and a jungle gym right next door, making the location perfect for young families too. While this location is smaller, it serves my purposes and I will continue to frequent it in the future. read more

History: It was one of the library I enjoyed going to. There a senior citizen group that go for trip and have fun time to gather. But this when my mother alive. Arlington information center for tours get info were to go and were to eat. But they move to Pentagon Row. Library has some what clean restroom. They have 50 cents books. 10 cent magazine. Most of the time there pick over. Not worth looking throw. Nice pick of DVD and audio book on CD. small park next door. Down the road from a Mall and Subway station. Every so often I wood come back again. But the Shirlington brach library very good. Check it out. read more

This library meets my needs for basic book rentals, so I am happy with it. I appreciate that I can order whatever books I want from any other library in the system, have them delivered, and get a notification when they are ready for pick up. I've only come in a few times with limited interaction with the staff here, but the ones I've dealt with have been helpful. The space is huge and cool inside. I can't wait for the new library to be completed! read more

This library is cozy and a bit old-school, but it's a great place. There are constantly new events done through the Arlington Library system that are free to attend: coloring nights, book clubs, financial planning lessons, craft nights, even recess themed parties for adults. With a library card, you can place anything on hold and be emailed when it's ready to pick up. Or you can do what I usually do and use the library's access to OverDrive - an app that automatically sends e-books to your phone or computer. The selection isn't perfect, but I love supporting my library and never having to pay fines. The lighting is good, and it's quiet enough to read without disruption. There is always a puzzle on the table when you walk in, and it's nice sometimes to just sit and play. I will say that the back room with books for sale is quite large, and I'd prefer if the library converted some of that space to increase its collection. read more

I usually go to the Shirlington branch but I needed a book and this branch had it. It's a little tricky finding it because it's hidden within a neighborhood so my GPS took me in a big circle. The best way to describe it would be that it's pretty close to Pentagon Row. Taking Hayes St seems to be the best route..... This library is small but I really like it. And there is an amazing playground right next to it. Huge playground and a water area for kids. What a great find!! JUST AN FYI... This library has some irregular hours. I learned the hard way that they open at 1:00pm some days. Check that they are open and save yourself the hassle! :-/ read more

This building isn't new and fancy like the Shirlington library, but it's within walking distance of my apartment. It's pretty easy to walk here from either the Pentagon or Crystal City metro stops. For the few occasions that I have driven, I've never had trouble finding a parking spot. Although there is a park here where people come to play soccer and the such, so I imagine the lot could fill up on those busy nights. I had trouble finding it the first time I walked here, it's set back from the road, behind the fire station. Fairly decent selection of books, audio books, and dvds. There have been computers available everytime I've been here. The main library area can get kind of noisy but they have a huge reading room in the back for quiet studying. read more

Professionals, Students, aspiring adults :)....this neighborhood library has it all for everyone ! It's a perfect blend between the published page and the digital world. Above all, the Aurora Hills Branch has held on to its quaint / welcoming atmosphere without losing sight of the contemporary needs of scanning, faxing, copying, emailing, etc.! And the service could not be better, from obtaining inter-city loan books to Wi-Fi connections to "chill out puzzles" to free books to browse. Need a CD to listen to back and forth to work -- you can find it at Aurora Hills ! Rather on the small side as libraries go with a limited selection of books, magazines and movies. This is overcome by the option of reserving library materials from any library in Arlington County via the online card catalog, which is one of the best-designed library websites I have utilized. The library features a well-organized children's section and has an impressive assortment of comic book TPBs for a public library. Library itself has a bit of a funk to it, probably attributed to the number of homeless that use it as a base camp during the day. The parking lot only has a handful of spaces but street parking in the area is free. There is a good-sized, fenced-in public playground next to the library too. read more

$.30/day for overdue books is way too much. They never forgive fines either, which other libraries in the area do. Holds list takes way too long, even for books that aren't popular. read more

Librarians are friendly and helpful. Hours are great. Today I actually went to a shelf to pick up a book myself. This is an exception to the rule. The reservation system is so smooth that I usually go straight to the hold shelf and then check out. Real books seem to be in lower demand and become available quickly. New books often come out close to the day of release. If you don't see a book you want, I've had good results requesting new titles through the website. The hoopla and overdrive digital options are nice on the run although wait times are longer. read more

Very conveniently located branch. Not the biggest library but certainly a decent selection of books for adults and children, for all ages as a matter of fact. The staff is friendly, the library's layout is convenient and easy to navigate. I, like other yelpers, appreciate that you can order books that are not stocked at this branch from other Arlington County branches and have them delivered to this location.
