Convenient liquor store with many options. We made two purchases from AWL in the last couple of months because of the ease of their online ordering. Both purchases were boxed and ready for pick up within a few hours. Although we went inside to grab our order, they offer a call-ahead contactless transaction (where they'll bring it to your car). The website is easy to use and covers a majority of their in-store items. Some of the items from our original order have not been restocked since--hoping they can get these items back soon (it's been since March 31st). read more

Arlington Wine & Liquor is a great looking store with a fine selection of wine and spirits. But there is only one major flaw with them. It's there pricing on limited release whiskey. Marked from $400 - $1000 over retail. They "like" to blame it on their distributor for the ridiculous pricing. There could be some truth to it since other stores in the area uncharacteristically elevated their prices on certain limited or hard to find releases. But however it shakes out, they are bending their customers over the proverbial barrel and taking their money. It's not classy and it's down right dirty. You'd be better off shopping at a business not looking to hit you over the head and take your wallet. And if it the distributor, hopefully they go out business soon. Always good always consistent. Under new ownership too. They kept most of the staff. I enjoy the lay out. Nothing beats Costco liquor but selection is low and it's in Danbury. Give it a try. The 3 for 20$ wines are a bargain, and always decent choices. read more

This may be somewhat of an unusual review - so bear with me. Someone stole our credit card number and purchased some rare wine from them online. Not sure what happened because whoever stole our credit card number clearly didn't know the difference between shipping and billing addresses, and we actually received the rare wine from this fraudulent charge. Of course we went through the whole thing - cancelled our credit card, submitted fraud report, our bank did investigation, and we shipped back the wine to the store in the end. Fast forward 3 months, I was searching for some whiskey online and ordered from this website. I actually didn't realize it's the same online store that fraud charge happened until the next day and I got an email notification saying my order was cancelled. Feeling a little surprised, I called them, and spoke with Joe the general manager. I thought I could speak to someone who can hold a mature conversation, but I was wrong. Sounding still a little sour, he made it sound like it was our fault that the fraud happened, and he claimed they reached out to me multiple times. So, this may come to you as a surprise, but here are some reminders: (1) OUR credit card was stolen, not yours. (2) Whatever number you guys reached out to, it was FAKE, provided by the person who stole our credit card. (3) We were both victims here, not just you. Oh and btw, you got your rare wine back, because we had to keep them while the bank investigate everything, maybe we should've just tossed it. Anyhow, this is the type of business they are. The selection here is really great and the store itself is large, has good prices and is well-organized. This is what keeps myself, and others occasionally coming back. But my god, Joe P, the General Manager is a piece of work. We have been in several times and he is an ass to his customers as well as with his staff. I have been inside Arlington Wine & Liquor many times and have seen it firsthand, once muttering under his breath "what a b****" to the woman in front of me only because she wanted her champagne gift-wrapped. I debated on leaving a review on this place for a while now because to some degree I get it, things get busy/stressful but it's not fair to watch how he treats certain people without giving a fair warning first. Wine selection was great, though it comes at an obvious markup. The store was laid out well with wine organized by region and price-point. The store was clean and well-kept with special attention to bottle presentation. HOWEVER; I spent 10 minutes in the store browsing wines and was approached on THREE separate occasions by different employees asking if I need help or if I found what I was looking for in a cold, rushed, and undermining tone. The owner/manager made a very clear attempt to be at the front when I was ready to check out-- he made sure the cashier checked my ID and was visibly upset after learning that I was old enough by a couple years... Sad that they treat younger-looking customers like criminals. Overall, staff was overbearing and unknowledgeable about inventory. Wine was diverse, but at an obvious premium. Would begrudgingly come back again as the wine selection is the best I've come across in the Poughkeepsie area. read more

Just like in a decathlon, you don't have to be the absolute best at everything, but you have to be consistently good. Among the wine and liquor stores I shop at in the area, Arlington Wine & Liquor is only the 2nd closest, has the 2nd largest amount of square footage, maybe the 2nd best discounts. BUT they have the best selection of wines that interest me, the best deals on these, and an upbeat page on Facebook. Add up the points, and they get the gold medal. Arlington Wine & Liquor is the only place I shop for liquor. I'm what you might call liquor unenlightened. No clue what the differences are and why it matters. I don't drink myself, but on occasion need to make a purchase as a present or for a special event. AWL is the perfect go-to for me. The staff (all of them) are amazingly knowledgeable and more importantly, they don't keep the knowledge to themselves. They take the time to show me different products and explain the differences in taste and production. For example, I was there about a week ago to get a bottle of Scotch for a present. They explained the single and blended thing and showed me a number of different products while explaining what to expect from each one. The sales person did the same when helping me select some local hard cider. The staffer must have spent at least 15 minutes with me without getting inpatient, cranky or agitated by my dumb questions. In no other business in the area is the staff so service and information intense. It is a pleasure going into AWL regardless of which sales affiliate helps you out. A great experience! The owner has been a delight to talk with. However on my most recent visits I have encountered hostility and rudeness from the general manager, Joe Pellizzari. I am considering looking for another wine shop to purchase from.. It is a real shame as I have patronized the store for so long. I would like to complement Chuck who I have always found very patient and knowledgeable about the wines sold there. Went here last night with my father, as soon as we walked in, 4 employees came from the back and continued to ask if we needed help or somewhat follow us throughout the store (yes we are black) I have a lot of knowledge with wines and liquor and whenever I would ask a question about what we were looking for, they either didn't have it or had NO idea what I was talking about! They have a great wine selection and the store is big but being followed around by employees who can't even supply the help IF needed is ridiculous! We ended up purchasing 6 bottles of wine and I made it a point to put every single one we picked on the counter instead of walking around with them because of how uncomfortable I felt. Arlington is located in a mini-mall across the street from Adam's grocery. The large selection, most of it wine, fills this spacious shop. Its size leads to choice anxiety, but the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The advice we received was good and the prices were reasonable. The staff don't just wait at the cash register; they actively try to be helpful. My friend buys liquor here before going back home to New Hampshire from Vassar because it's so much cheaper. Decent selection, limited hours , most staff , not ALL , but most, lack product knowledge. The hours of coarse are limited do to the Dutchess country's restrictions so I can't fault them for that. Also I feel compelled to mention when I enter this establishment with people of color we are treated very poorly . The owner / manager is EXTREMELY ABRASIVE , AGGRESSIVE and a bit of a prick . A much better option is Shamrock Liquor, just over the bridge in Highland, their hours are more conducive of a busy adults' schedule, the selection is larger , staff more attentive and efficient ...Next time I wanna be harassed , chastised and verbally abused , I'll call my ex wife ! read more

This is one of my favorite liquor stores in the area. They have a large selection here, and their prices are incredibly reasonable. The people who work here are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I've had to get recommendations from them before, and I was always recommended a great wine or spirit for the occasion. For example I wanted to get Port wine (my boyfriends favorite) for our anniversary. I had no idea where to start. The man working was able to help me find the exact bottle, just based off of a vague memory of what I remembered. I like that they have tastings here on the weekends. I also like that they have some tools for your bar, if you're planning on making cocktails. I got my muddler here for mojitos last year. The customer service here is beyond excellent. I found them during an online search for a spirit that is extremely hard to find. Their ordering process is a breeze. The last few times I had ordered this liquor (from some else) it took almost three weeks to get it. AWL got it shipped out the same day (OMG!!) and it was here the next day. Both of us feel a little strange during our shopping- the best description is: they do not behave the same way with us as they do with other customers, who are predominantly Whites. They have a lot going for them. I was recently looking for some very specific things and 1) I could search their online inventory from home and 2) if there was something I did not see, I could request them to get it. When I did, I got a prompt email response. A BIG win in my book...the ease of shopping. I ordered a few bottles online and went into the store to pick up. It was packaged, ready and brought to my car. The staff were very polite and helpful (hard to read the negative comments about some people not feeling like this and I hope it isn't so/corrected). They have a great selection of wines and of spirits....great selection of scotch, sake and some other hard to find items. I love this store. i buy a lot of wine and and am very interested in wine. Arlington is so comfortable and the wine is displayed easily and sensibly. The sales folks are knowledgeable and dependable at every price point. The overall selection is very good, particularly for a store outside a major metropolitan area. They special order wine for me reasonably often and are always user-friendly. Prices are very fair and, actually, really excellent for sparkling wine. Overall, a very fine wine store.
