Great hotel right on the steps of Spanish Bay could not be a better location. +3 incredible restaurants all served by the same kitchen, but the quality and diversity of food was just amazing, plus you actually got a real cocktail. They came by to my daughter who was celebrating her 24th birthday With a free whiskey sour that actually tasted like a whiskey sour Wine list fantastic people watching fun being had just a great night. We had dinner at the Armada Hotel. The dining room is very modern and has great views of the sea. There were floor to ceiling windows around the room to take advantage of the view. To be short, the service was excellent. The food was only fair and overpriced. There aren't many options in the area. In fairness, others with my group though very highly of the food, particularly the mussels. So, I'm between 3 and 4 stars for the food, with a solid 5 for service. If you do eat here, get the mussels. read more

Book somewhere else DO NOT stay here! It's a long way from town. They put our group of rooms right where a wedding is to end at 2 am! The wedding party wrapped around 230 am and the wedding guests and party were in the halls and banging on walls until 330 am. Valve on towel rack is broke off and you scald yourself if you touch it. If you have any physical restrictions the bathtub is extremely hard to get in and out of. The showerhead had barely any pressure. No fan in the room and the open windows don't seem to cool the room off at all. Only outlets are by the desk and you have to unplug either the lamp or the fridge to charge your electronics. Bed is okay. Nice tea kettle. teapot, and cups to make some green tea as I wasn't feeling well. Went to breakfast and lady asked only one person at our table if they wanted something from the menu and when they declined the staff member walked away. When I asked to order something the lady was very rude and then the manager made it worse instead of apologizing. The staff was more concerned about the wedding party than any other guest. Prepaid as part of a group but definitely DO NOT recommend this hotel. If I could give it zero stars I would. read more

"Here by the sea and sand" (The Who -Sea and Sand) Peaceful Tranquil Lots of sea and sand and rocks You won't find a lot of anything to walk to near the Armada except for the beautiful rocky waterfront scenery. The hotel is older (we saw some wiring in our room wrapped in electrical tape) but our sleeping room and bathroom were big and very comfortable. The hotel WIFI worked fine. The Armada is deceptively large with a big pub and plenty of restaurant rooms. We had a drink in the bar and dinner and a breakfast in their restaurants. The food was exceptional at both meals. What a sweet place to relax and decompress from whatever stresses you. Go and enjoy their peaceful hotel. read more

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Right by the sea/ Beach which you can walk out to. Beautiful outdoor dining and dining experience (when the weather permits). And really promotes Irish culture and sustainability throughout the hotel. They have irish art and photography on the walls and has irish books on the night stand and even irish linen and throws in the room! The small touches are so cute and attentive. And the food is fanatic! They have a drive bar, a fancier bar area lol, and Aileens - which is a sit down dinner where you are right by the water! Highly recommend this hotel to anyone around the area. read more

I feel like this hotel is a hidden gem. The breakfast is first class, the rooms comfortable and considerate for people on holiday. They include books and small nooks to gather and tuck away for a quiet place to read or share a cocktail. The attached classic Irish pub shares the restaurant kitchen with lots of great food choices. We recently had dinner at Johnny Burkes at Spanish Point in Co. Clare. It was a treat from friends who were visiting. We have eaten there several times but this last meal was so dissapointing that we will not be going back. We live near by and like to take guests to near by restaurants. The first time we went, it was good and we were eating at the bar where we met a very nice bartender. The second time we went, the burger seemed reheated as it was hard and dry. One meal (seafood) was cold and not seasoned. We thought we would give them another chance. This past time, the burger tasted good but it had large lumps of hard grizzle in it which could not be eaten. The other dishes were "bland" and lacked any zest. The place has a nice and traditional atmosphere and the waiter was friendly but the food wasn't nice. I would say if you want to go there for drinks and listen to music, it is a nice place but skip the food. It is overpriced and poor quality. read more

Was looking forward to spending some relaxing time in Spanish Point but our room was very disappointing. Stains on carpet in room and hallway, dirty bathtub , no water pressure and a room that was unbearably hot with windows that did not operate properly in addition to booking a room with a view of the ocean to check into a room with a view of another building. Neat older hotel on the coast off Spanish Point. Quaint with a slight historical-nautical theme, there's a pub onsite, casual and higher end restaurants, as well as banquet facilities. Well maintained and clean, the rooms are well appointed and a reasonable size. The beds are comfortable but, if you like a soft feather pillow, bring your own. Spend the extra cash for the sea view. Only downfall: water pressure is meh. But their toiletries are wonderfully scented. Though typically small, the pub has a decent selection of booze and beer. The highlight for me was dinner at the finer restaurant. I had the salmon and was delighted to find the crispy skin still on it! Hubby had the roast beef and was quite happy. The wonderful breakfast buffet covers everything you'd want, except bacon. And watching the choppy North Atlantic as you're drinking your morning joe is fantastic. Highlight: walking on the rocky shore of the ocean on a blustery day. read more

Ambience: The room was immaculate and tranquil, overlooking the ocean - sunset was just the cherry on top. Staff: Incredible service. When asking the front desk for transportation advice, a staff member, Tony, overheard and offered us a ride the following morning as he was heading that direction. Above and beyond the call of duty, and a shining exemplar of the customer service at the Armada. The pub staff was also extremely pleasant. Food: delicious food at Johnny Burke's with a great environment and generous portions. Service was phenomenal. The breakfast buffet included every item fathomable and the quality was great; immense appreciation for the attention to detail. Overall - incredible experience, 100% recommend. read more

Nice and quite place. If the weather is nice, walk on a beach is delightful. We were only staying one night, but were able to relax completely. I suggest to have a dinner in one of the hotel restaurants, another place 15min down the road might not be open. We had breakfast ordered in the room and it was huge, so we were well fed. Although my scrambled eggs were tasteless and I couldn't get any salt out of the salt jar (or whatever it's called). We had a dinner at the pub in the hotel, which was small but cozy. Waited for food forever, but it was decent enough. Small bites toasted sandwich is actually huge (just an fyi). Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We got the hotel through one of the deals nearly half price. When saw actual prices for rooms, thought it was too expensive. read more

You will look long and hard to find a hotel as AWESOME as this one. I just can't say enough. The food is excellent. The hotel is gorgeous and the staff is absolutely first rate. I am a hotel snob and kind of a hard cookie in reviews but this place is amazing. A must-see if you're on the West Coast of Clare. Love it. read more

We stumbled onto this little gem while looking for a public restroom southbound on the Clare coast. LOL. The hotel was VERY nice and is known for hosting fine weddings - over 100 a year we were told. There are two bars and a restaurant. We ate in the Pearl Restaurant at an ocean front table with a spectaular view of the water, surf, and coastline. The carpet and a few other aspects seemed a little age worn but it was still beautiful. The food was superb and the prices were VERY reasonable. Service was impeccable - or however you spell that fancy word that means OUTSTANDING. There aren't a lot of restaurants near Spanish Point but with this one being so good you only need the one. read more

Gorgeous location. Stayed in a tranquility suite, amazing view! (Although the room gets verrrrrrry hot - had to ask for a fan because there is no air conditioning, but it was worth it!) The food was wonderful and the staff was accomodating. read more

The view is the only thing going for this hotel! my husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was such a disappointment . The room we stayed in smelt like sewer water . When we arrived the front desk person handed us our room key and told us how to get to our room. 2 minutes later we entered our room and it was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY. It had not been cleaned and the bed sheets and blankets were all used and dirty. There were towels laying all over the hotel room and as I mentioned, the smell was horrendous ! we had to walk back to the front desk and let them know what happened. They were not even concerned and didn't offer any type of compensation considering check in was at 3 and we got there at 3:15 and still couldn't check in because our room was dirty. They also were hosting a huge wedding there and they failed to tell us that when booking. There was no available parking, the restaurants and bars were all packed and we had to go else where to find food and drink. The halls were loud and doors were slamming almost all night long. We paid almost 300 for one night to have the tranquility room and it wasn't even enjoyable. Our view was AMAZING but with all the chaos we had to deal with upon arriving I don't feel like this hotel was worth the money. read more
