*** Roque Nublo is an experience not to miss if you're on the island of Gran Canaria! This majestic rock formation offers amazing views around the whole island. The hike to the top is of medium difficulty, but totally worth it once you reach the summit and behold the rocky tips and breathtaking landscape stretching out before you. My partner and I brought a picnic, and loved eating up there. From the top, you can marvel at stunning panoramas of the island and the Atlantic Ocean that are really special. It's the perfect spot for snapping incredible photos and soaking up some wind-swept nature. The hike might be a bit challenging in some steep places, but you can do it! The trail is well-marked, and there are spots where you can pull off to catch your breath. Make sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen, especially on hot days. The natural beauty here is superb. Going to the peak a unique experience that you've got to have while on Gran Canaria. Panoramic views, exercise in the fresh air, and natural beauty make it worth your time--and the drive up to the parking area is pretty great too. You won't regret visiting this incredibly gorgeous spot!

The Museum of Vines and Wines of Tenerife…read more After spending the morning exploring la Laguna, my guide took me took me to the beautiful countryside to take in the largest wine area in the Canary Islands. First stop was the House of Wine or La Baranda. An old Canarian farm that dates back to the 17th century. Now the local government uses it to promote the quality local wines. I started in the small museum that has many old wine related artifacts, dioramas, and lots of posted guides to explain the centuries of Canary Island wine making. From here a stroll across the courtyard to a small room for a video presentation. In the tasting hall you can sample wines from the five wine areas on the island. The traditional gift shop next door stocks all the wines for purchase. There is also a restaurant and tapas bar serving local traditional dishes based on recipes handed down over generations. At this visit I didn't eat here, I had grabbed a snack at the Laguna Market. Museum is open Tuesdays through Saturday 9 am to 9 pm and 11 am to 6 pm on Sundays. There is a large lot down the hill about a block for parking.
