Villatoro Bushido Martial Arts

My family has been connected to Villatoro Bushido Martial Arts for years. My oldest, who is now 18,…read moretrained here when he was younger, and the impact it had on him stayed with us. Recently, I found myself bringing my 9‑year‑old -- and I'm so grateful we did. My son never really found his place in sports. We tried football, soccer, baseball -- nothing clicked. But the moment he stepped into this studio, something changed. He found comfort, confidence, and a sense of belonging that we hadn't seen before. I truly believe it's because of the teaching approach here. The senseis don't just teach martial arts and self‑defense. They teach discipline, respect, focus, and responsibility. They meet each child where they are and bring out the best in them. You can feel the patience, the structure, and the genuine care they put into every class. Watching my son grow here -- not just in skill, but in character -- has been incredible. Villatoro Bushido MA is more than a martial arts studio. It's a community, a support system, and a place where kids learn to believe in themselves. Highly recommended for any parent looking for a positive, empowering environment for their child.

I recently joined their Muay Thai classes, and I'm so glad I did. It's very beginner-friendly and welcoming, even if you've never done anything like this before. They also offer adult kickboxing classes, which are a great way to stay active and learn new skills. Highly recommend 10/10 experience!

After trying almost everything for my shoulder, I traveled from the Bay Area to have a private…read moreAblon/Hilot Manual Medicine session with Manusuro Virgil Apostol. He's one of only two people I know in California who teaches practices martial arts and healing. And I've searched long and hard. It was unlike any session I've experienced before. And I've seen functional, regenerative, and integrative doctors, osteopaths, physical therapists, chiropractors, Traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicine doctors, and bodyworkers. He spent a lot of time conducting a very thorough intake of my body, mind, and spirit, including food and my interactions with ancestors in my dreams. Then he intuitively worked on my body in positions I've never been in. He patiently worked on one part of my body until it released. At the end, he shared stretches I hadn't learned before. He has a fun sense of humor and was very generous with his time and knowledgeable in modalities from other cultures. I also appreciate that he teaches live online for people from out of town, helps students take time to master basics before learning more advanced moves, requires student healers to learn martial arts, and thoughtfully matches clients to student ablon practitioners. If you'll receive ablon on a massage table, remember to bring your own sheets . If you don't see that reminder in their emails, ask. (I'm not Filipino and I was warmly welcomed.)

I took the Kailukuan course in November and the class was an intensive mind, body, spirit,…read moreaggregated syllabus. The course is built on a foundational set of movements used in the didya mudgarwa, didya kabarwanan, and ablon. When I signed up for the course, I was looking for content to connect me with my Filipina roots... to the indigenous culture. This course offered me that in unexpected ways. I felt like I released conditioned practices through the learned movements and filled the void with native Filipino practices. This class reset my mind and body. It reset my operating system at its core. After the first week of bending and awakening my muscles, I found myself more aware of the small movements and how they supported my form. I felt more connected to the power of my breath. By the end of the course, I was shedding programs and rebuilding my foundations.
