We brought in a screen door to have the screen replaced. The price was very reasonable, and the quality of work was top notch. They said it might take a day or two, but the work was completed later the same day. So many local hardware stores have closed up recently. We're sure glad Arnold's is here! read more

That store you walk into where the people working there are so ridiculously friendly and accommodating, you feel like an idiot NOT buying something, ha. We stopped in because, man, do we LOVE a good hardware store - and THIS is a GOOD hardware store. It's got the menagerie of countless shelves of nuts, bolts, wires, tools, paints, connectors, pipes, fittings, gadgets, bulbs, garden tools, holiday surprise stuff...I mean, Arnold's is exactly WHY we love a good old fashioned hardware store...it's like a slice of Americana. Old-timey and friendly in just the right ways with a super knowledgeable staff, just waiting to chat with you and answer a question. Wifey and I highly recommend this place. Arnold's Frontier Hardware is a local treasure. I just love old time hardware stores and I particularly appreciate how Arnold's is so engaged with the community. For example, the picture accompanying my review shows my beloved pup getting his picture taken with Santa Claus at Arnold's when they kindly and generously offered a Santa Claus for families to take photos even up to and through Christmas Eve. This is so generous of Arnold's because a lot of times that is a very expensive photo shoot for families. As you can see they had the set decorated super cute for Santa photos. So glad to hear the store has gotten such good reviews as that has not been the case in our experiences there. We like to go to smaller hardware stores with the one on one service and for staff to attend to us and especially answer our questions. We depend on this store now that Altadena Hardware is not available to us. It's a drive from Pasadena. The staff is short with us, dont take the time to assist us as if they cant wait to get to the next customer. I cannot believe what I am reading when it comes to the very few BAD reviews here about Arnolds Hardware. I have NEVER been treated poorly or rudely by Basil or any of his hard working staff. I have never wittnised any customers being treated badly either. I am a repair service plumbing contractor and have to go to Arnolds quite frequently to buy hard to find plumbing items and they always come thru for me 99.9% of the time and the staff have ALWAYS been helpful and super friendly. Arnold's is a great local hardware store. Everyone there is always very friendly and helpful. I really appreciate that they will show me where I can find what I need and recommend tools for my projects. Even during COVID they were really well stocked and had everything I would need for my DIY home projects. Prices are competitive and it's always nice to support local businesses. Great store. Obviously the exterior is really cute and old timey, but the inside is great too. Reminds me of local hardware stores I'd go to with my dad as a kid. The vibe and smell is nostalgic. I was looking for a kind of specific little hardware piece- I brought one for example and the attendant walked me over, and helped me find it. He was diligent and patient, and taught me what the actual thing was called. (A hitch pin, if you're curious) I was able to buy just a handful just as many as I needed, and was on my way. My kitchen sink faucet had a slow leak that was increasing. I went online to HomeDepot. Their website said they had 6 of the ceramic stems I needed in their stock at the Monrovia location. I go there, find the aisle and bay it is located and find no stock at all. I asked two employees who were walking by for assistance who both said they don't work in this department and kept walking. I looked around and one of the cashiers pointed to the "plumbing" employee. I went to him while he was cutting items for another customer. He looked at me like I cut him off on the freeway. I told him I would wait until he was done. After 10 minutes of waiting and combing through the isle to find my ceramic stem, he was gone and I just left. Went home and called around. Almost forgot about Arnold's Frontier Hardware because I used the shop the Duarte location before they closed down. I went down to the Sierra Madre location and the manager Craig helped me get the right ceramic stem based on the old stem I brought in. He opened the package to show me how it is installed and what to look out for if I had an issue. I purchased the needed item and went home to install. Turns out I did have a problem and if it weren't for Craig's help and above and beyond advice, I would have been on youtube for hours trying to figure it out. Home Depot employees won't even help you let alone give good advice. If you have something that needs fixing around the house, go to Arnold's first. So I loooove all the businesses in Sierra Madre and frequent them often. I've been to this place 4 times hoping for the same kind of friendly customer service. But finally-I'm going to leave this review. I HATE leaving bad reviews, but today's visit was the last straw. This place is super overcrowded with a bunch of not useful things. Dusty, disorganized, and more expensive than I'm used to. But because it was a small business I kept giving it a chance. Sadly every time I went, I was treated unkindly. Once I even was told by the lady that worked there to "f&&& off" in front of my kid. Super unprofessional. It's hard to find what you want here because it's got too many things and you'll need help. If I ask, it's usually: "go there. If you don't find it, we don't carry it". And seriously I can't find the thing. Today I needed a drain stop. No one was around except the cashier. "Hi! Where do you keep your drain stuff?" Response: get in line. As in get in the pay line for purchase to ask a question. Ok! Like the words 'Aisle 8' were too hard to say. I go back to look in a meandering way to attempt to find the thing. Another worker says; "or can just leave." what the heck? I FINALLY find the thing. I go to pay. I say nothing and the same guy was like: "you need to be put in your place" wow. Will never shop again, and I'll be sure to share this with everyone who is looking to go to a hardware store. Go to the Alta Dena store. VERY HELPFUL and super organized. read more

There are lots of great things about this store. First off, the owner Basil is a super helpful dude who- time permitting if the store's not slammed- will truly go the extra mile for his customers. One time I came in with a rather bizarre key and Basil made several attempts to copy it. He didn't just blow me off or give up after one try. It didn't ultimately work out (I had to get it done at a place with more specialized equipment), but I appreciated the time and effort he put into trying to help me out. That kind of kind gesture gets rewarded with customer loyalty, and I always make a point of trying Frontier first for whatever hardware/gardening thing I need (sorry, Home Depot...) One more plus: they have a wide selection of those great Waldo's jams in stock. read more

I had no idea they were affiliated with ACE. Anyhow, I placed an order online for curbside pickup. Don't offer curbside pick-up if you're going to have rude employees that are upset that they have to bring out orders. I called and said I was outside for pickup. The woman hung up on me and as soon as the she walked out, she threw her hands in the air and was so upset that she had to bring it out to my car. Great little neighborhood store. Great selection of hundreds of different items. We went in to explore after having lunch nearby. Reminded us of neighborhood stores used to be. You can get paint, hammers, kitchen utensils, jams/ jellies, a horse pillow, nails, replacement sprinkler heads and a pair of earrings all in the same place. Mary Ann K wasn't willing to wait in line to be helped. She was extremely impatient, very rude to the employees, myself and the other customers. I don't know why she feels like she is superior to all others. Thank you, Arnold's Frontier Hardware. My leaky kitchen faucet was resolved! It was a waste of time seeking help at Home Depot. At Arnold's, I initially asked for a list of handymen or plumbers. I was given a list to take screenshots. I shared a picture of my faucet stem. I was told a special tool was required. I was pleasantly surprised when I was informed I could borrow it. With the cartridge finally removed, I handed it over to a staff member who identified the replacement. With the cartridge replaced I returned the tool with no problem. This is what a hardware store is supposed to be! Not like the big box places. They have SERVICE. I live in Duarte and we lost our store, FRONTIER HARDWARE, a few years ago dye to a lease issue and cuty "redevelopment." However, the owner of Arnold's is the same as our old standby Frontier. I do not get there as often as I did when we had a local store but still go there. I see so.e if the same familiar faces! This is a good place to get window screens made or replaced. 'nuff said. Specially during these challenging times when everything so uncertain. I am so happy and grateful that this hardware store is in our community. Nice local store for the community that doesn't seem like it had changed for decades. It's a compact hardware store that carries basics of what you need similar to what you would find at say Osh or Home Depot but on a mini, slimmed down scale. I've recently start a small garden from seeds on sale at this store. It's fun to pop in and see what they have on sale, usually seasonally appropriate items. My favorite item is the old timey hard candy sticks in fruit flavors like Pina Colada you can get for pocket change, you truly haven't lived until you licked one into a sharp stabby shank. read more

Ok, I'm really biased because I've been walking to Arnold's for a really long time and I guess by now, it's on its third owner. But. It is truly right out of the fifties. Unfortunately, Basil wasn't in (he was so generous in donating paint supplies when my older child worked on a Scout project 5 years ago). We were referred to the store manager. She was not a friendly woman. Didn't seem to want to be bothered by us, and gave us shrugs and noncommital answers when I asked if my Scout could ask her questions (I did not want to do the talking on behalf of my child). I wanted to give my business to a quaint and lovely store such as Arnold's, but she leaves a bad impression, so I guess I'll have to patronize Home Depot. read more
