Es war alles gut. Mein Onkel möchte ein Bier und der Kellner sagt uns, dass sie dort keinen Alkohol verkaufen, aber wir können in die asiatische Bar nebenan gehen und dort ein paar Biere kaufen. Das kommt mir komisch vor, und ich frage: Aber können wir die Biere auch hierher bringen? Der Kellner sagt ja. Also gehen wir hin und kaufen ein paar Biere, bringen sie zurück ins Restaurant und geben die Bestellung auf (40 Euro). Der Chef kommt und sagt, dass wie das nicht dürfen, weil sie keine Lizenz haben. Und der Kellner entschuldigt sich, dass er den Salat gemacht hat. Ich sage ihm, das sei kein Problem, aber er solle die Bestellung stornieren. Wir gehen mit den drei offenen Bieren weg und gehen zum Abendessen in das anatolische Restaurant ein paar Meter weiter. Als wir eine Stunde später mit dem Essen fertig waren, fiel mir ein, dass ich dem Kellner zwar gesagt hatte, er solle meine Bestellung stornieren, aber ich hatte meine 40 Euro nicht zurückbekommen! Dann bin ich dorthin gelaufen, und der Chef war weg. Die Leute dort sagten mir, ich solle heute (am nächsten Tag) kommen, um das Geld abzuholen, und ich sagte ok, kein Problem. Wieder entschuldigt sich der Kellner bei mir. Ich gehe heute hin und der Chef sagt mir: - Dass er kein Kellner ist, sondern der Tellerwäscher. - Dass nur er im Ort was zu sagen hat, dass ich hätte hingehen sollen, um mit ihm zu reden (und das stimmt, aber der Stress, das Management meiner spanischen Familie, mein Hund und der Heilige Geist haben nicht geholfen). - Dass er mein Essen wegwerfen musste. Nie wieder. Ein Chef ist für seine Mitarbeiter verantwortlich. Hoffentlich findet der Kellner/Geschirrspüler bald einen anderen Job, er tat mir leid.

In a one week business trip to Hamburg, I ate green lovers four times: once with a coworker, once…read moreas catering for a team meeting, and twice on my own. So I guess you could say I'm a fan of this place! And I'm clearly not the only fan, as there was a lunch line every time I visited (various times between noon and 1:30). But not to worry, the line moves quite fast and you'll be eating lunch before you know it. There are various salad and soup options available, or you can create a custom salad by pointing at ingredients at the counter. I quickly learned how to say the various parts of my order in German (mixed salad, egg, beans, corn, mushrooms, tomato, parmesan cheese, balsamic dressing), though most of the staff is pretty fluent in English. Visiting from SF where a custom lunch salad can easily cost $14, the prices here (around 5-8 euros for a custom salad, depending on what you put in it) seem very reasonable. There's some indoor seating but it's pretty packed at lunch, so you may want to plan to take your meal elsewhere. Though if you do manage to get a seat and are dining alone, not to worry, they have free wi-fi! Healthy, fresh, fast, and reasonably priced, this is a great antidote to the heaviness and grease typically associated with German food.

The menu includes suggested salads, a make-your-own salad option, soups, and panini. All of the salads are made fresh when you order. I went with the falafel veggie salad special they had advertised on the counter with the green lovers dressing (herbs, lemon, olive oil). It had a great balance of ingredients and a nice hummus on top. Definitely a fan. Service was also surprisingly friendly despite the lunch rush. Again, other than that whole ordering in German part, I felt like I had just walked through a portal to Mixt Greens in downtown SF. The only downside is that the space is a little tight and is pretty much packed by 12:30pm. If you'd like a place to sit and don't mind getting bumped into every so often, I'd aim for right before noon and stick to parties of 2. The line always moves fast and they offer takeout, so that could be a good plan B if you happen to arrive after half of Hamburg's workforce has.
