Our waitress was cordial but not friendly. The food service was very slow although the restaurant was not crowded. We ordered a burger & fries and a burger & onion rings. Both arrived with fries. Onion rings were brought but they were over fried and greasy. Both orders of fries were limp and greasy. My hamburger was not seated on the bun and I was unable to pick it up to eat. The burger was hot - the bun was soggy and cold. Famous for burgers, Art's can, and should, do better. read more

Art's Place is a very tiny restaurant with fabulous breakfast food. We were here on a Sunday morning at about 9:00 and had to wait about 20 minutes for seating. Since we opted for "first available" we were seated at the bar where we got a clear view of the action in the kitchen. The cook was amazing to watch. My husband ordered the western omelet with pan fries and a biscuit; I got 2 pancakes with a side of sausage. The pancakes were light and fluffy and the sausage was perfectly seasoned. The portions were more than we could finish. Point of information - breakfast stops at 10:45 to allow for the switch to lunch so get there early! read more

We found Art's by accident, and we're really glad we did. It appears to be a favorite with locals and regular visitors to the OBX. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but worth a little drive. They have a very small indoor dining room, but plenty of outdoor seating, along with forced air heat for when it gets chilly. I had the basic, 2 eggs over easy, bacon, grits and a biscuit. Even though it's basic, a lot of places screw it up. Not Art's. Everything was cooked exactly as it should be. My wife had the French toast and was very happy. Of course, that could have been due to the Golden Girls breakfast cocktail as well, which was also delicious. Once we were seated, we never felt ignored. Service is a little slow everywhere right now, but our server checked in and our food arrived quickly. Prices, food, prices and service are excellent. Worth a visit or two. This place is legendary. Live music 4/5 days a week really good karokee night and consistently good chill music. All I've talked about is the ambiance and the environment now let me get to the food. All American burgers top notch made with care and you can watch the whole process from start to finish. Big portions, fresh ingredients made quick. The wings are good and big portions and I'm a fan of the moz stix simply quick and easy but delicious. Iconic landmark in the OBX. Breakfast too home fries with peppers and onions if my wife didn't set a limit on how many times I can go here while we're vacationing here I'd go here breakfast and dinner everyday. Hands down, my favorite burger joint! I was lucky enough today to get my favorite seat... Straight across from the short order cook at the bar. French fries are home cut potatoes, service is usually fast, and the results are delicious! And they were obviously short staffed today, so I don't know how they pull it all together. When we got there we read the sign outside stating that only 1 person should go inside to request a seat due to the restaurant being very small. We were lucky and got seated immediately at the counter. What a quaint place-a real piece of Americana. We got to watch the cooks preparing the meals and were amazed at how fast and friendly they were. When our meals came we were overwhelmed by not only the very generous portions, but the quality of the food! Everything tasted fantastic-especially the grits which were the best I've ever tasted! Omggggg guys this place is just as delicious as I remember!!!! Third year in a row!! They have a bar, a few tables and a deck. Plenty of parking on the side. I love this place. They still have $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon and cheap but delicious burgers. I got their American cheese burger with everything and a side of fries. The burger was cooked medium. Oh my god was it good! I don't know what happened but this year's trip to Art's Place may be our last. Our order was takeout, the wait was twenty minutes and we were told that we would receive a text when it was ready. After half an hour, we went in and were informed that it had been sitting there. Got it home and the bun was compressed and soggy. The burger was pink. Not that grayish pink but a true pink. Both burgers in the order were in the same condition. Inedible unless you wanted to risk getting sick from it. A waste of money as most off the burger had to be pitched. read more

First off, my favorite thing is that they seemed to be careful about covid health measures. I also loved that I could bring my pooch to eat outside with us. We found out about the place via BringFido and I'm glad we found it! I tried the Monte Christo because I've never had one. I really loved the fresh fruit on the side. I ended up not really liking the sandwich, nor the compote that came with, but I liked being able to try something new. My husband enjoyed his meal, he let me have his grits and I liked them. Service was super friendly and I appreciated the water bowl available for my dog at our table too. My only suggestion would be for them to possibly add fans and other deterrents, if possible, to help a little with the outdoor flies. read more

Out family of five loved this place! Something for everyone! My husband and I got omelettes, the kids got chocolate chip pancakes, french toast and a sausage, egg and cheese. Adorable little place - and super busy!!! Now we know why!! Breakfast was delicious - the sausage gravy was sooooo good and the biscuit was fluffy but had the perfect slight crunch on the edge. Came here during off season (Sun 3/26) and was very happy with this spot. Breakfast was delicious. The omelette, biscuits, and pancakes were delicious. The highlight of this experience for me though was the staff. They managed being short staffed on a busy day phenomenally. The kitchen busted out the food while a tall young guy was playing all positions. He was hosting, waiting, and helped expedite the food and service beautifully. On this month long stay in KDH, we have been hitting some new places so we expand our horizons. Ms T noted that Art's Place has live jazz on Mondays and I noted another claim to the best burger on the beach. So on a Monday, we had to try it. Art's is small and very local. Fortunately, we were not thrown out for being outsiders. We were lucky to get a place at the bar. All three tables were full and the bar filled up shortly after we arrived. We were both ready for that best burger. Ms T had the Pimento Cheeseburger without the jalapenos and I had a Carolina Burger with chili and slaw. These are half pound flat-top burgers and they are some of the best I have ever had. I would like them a little more salted, but I always say that. Wow, the beef is excellent. They leave a little pink in them so they are juicy and delicious. They are not compressed discs of beef. They melt in your mouth. Ms T wants hers more done next time but it will still be good. Their chili is homemade and it is different from their bowl chili. It was impressive that the server knew that there was dog/burger chili and bowl chili. Many places treat them the same. As for the best burger on the beach. This is it, hands down. I have not had them all but I know I don't need to. The ridiculous burger that makes this claim at Mulligan's is a joke and then some. There is no silly, trendy crap on these things. This is an honest diner burger, in the top five I have ever had. I had no intention of eating a half-pound burger, but it evaporated in front of me. Oh and to top it off, I am a jazz guitar lover and the guy playing here is good. His trio has keyboards and drums. Very nice to hear instead of cryin'-in-your-beer music that most bars have. The question is, how much weight will I gain if I eat this burger every Monday night? Later we returned for breakfast and enjoyed huge breakfast sandwiches, one on whole wheat and one on a huge biscuit. Half of each went home with us, so this is a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. October 2017 - Stopped if for lunch. Ms T had her usual cheeseburger. I finally had that Nathan's chili dog and it was excellent. Art's makes some of the best dog and burger chili around. read more

Husband and I made this our last stop on the way back home leaving the beach and were so glad we did! We had our dogs with us and Daniel was so accommodating! One of the cooks even snuck them a piece of bacon. The food was equally as good as the service and atmosphere - the cheese grits were indeed life changing. Great southwest omelet, Inside and outside seating This was an interesting breakfast stop that lead to a great tasting omelet. The southwest omelet had a decent amount of spice, plus good ingredients including sausage, onions, peppers, and pepper jack cheese. I also tried the pancakes but found them to be a bit flat, not fluffy. They were tasty enough. The restaurant is very cozy, much like a corner bar space with tables for breakfast dinning but the bar is used for breakfast as well. Inside is rather noisy when busy but there are outside spaces, covered and elevated that provide for an number of dining options.
