I bought an Ed Ruscha lithograph from Gemini G.E.L. for my husband's 40th birthday, and Ayn Grinstein of Gemini brought the piece directly to Art Services on Melrose. She works with this frame shop regularly, and I got a hefty discount thanks to that relationship. I met Ayn at Art Services, where the framer already had the lithograph laid out, with a game plan prepared for the job. He recommended a light wood frame, which was perfect, and walked me through the different glass options. I went with some expensive museum quality glass and I honestly think it was worth it. One of our first friends to see the lithograph immediately commented on the glass, which looks almost invisible and lets the colors of the piece come through unobstructed. There was no sly upsell energy from the people here. In fact, when I asked about a painting I had at home, they recommended against framing it because it had an interesting border. Art Services specializes in framing art, and this was apparent from the enormous number of pieces around the shop, waiting to be framed. I kind of felt like I was visiting a gallery. I even saw another Ruscha. The job took two weeks, shorter than I'd expected. I got an email letting me know my piece was ready, and when I went to pick it up, someone ran it out to me outside so I didn't have to deal with parking. (Art Services has parking, but only a couple of spots.) The whole process was super easy and pleasant, and I've been quite satisfied with the end result. I recently purchased a Murakami print and was looking for a top notch place to have it framed. James was extremely helpful and gave me all the recommendations and suggestions I needed to feel very comfortable that they were the best people for the job. He carefully unwrapped the piece and presented options and recommendations for the frame, mat, colors, glass, etc. The price he quoted was very reasonable and competitive with what I would expect for high quality workmanship. The other thing you'll notice when you walk into this place is that they have a TON of people's work about. They are obviously highly trusted and regarded by people around town. There are only two parking spaces but at least there is parking in an area that's kind of tight with spaces. You'll park in front of the store. At first, I was a bit shocked with the feeling of disorganization and with the interior wear and tear with cheap kitschy art hanging on the walls, but don't judge on appearances, this place frames museum quality pieces. The customer service also excels. You'll need to leave your art with the store so if you are uncomfortable with that, you may want to reconsider a place that can digitize the measurements, then frame upon pickup. We framed two pieces which totaled $1500 for not so special or custom frames. Ouch, a bit steep, but it was worth the premium for careful handling. We will return for any future framing needs. read more

We have used this framing shop for over 10 years after being referred by a nearby designer and framed dozens of artwork at a considerable cost. Last week we called to frame two pieces of art and were told to just come in. Today we did "just come in" and were told by a rather snooty woman to go outside and see the phone number on the door and call for an appointment. We told her that we had used a particular salesman for years and that we had been told to come in. She said no one would have told us to "just come in.". BTW, the shop only had 1 customer and there were 3 salespersons. It was not a Covid-19 issue either since we were the only people wearing masks. Snooty lady was not. We did indeed go outside, but definitely not to make an appointment or use the shop again. read more

I was extremely disappointed in the service I received. I left 2 prints for a month to be restored and reframed. Each time I contacted them, they were unaware of who owned the prints, what needed to be done and there was absolutely no follow up as promised. I would never recommend them or use them again. Their lack of concern and poor customer service was shocking. read more

We are leaving Los Angeles and can only hope that we find a comparable company in our future. We have had framing and restoration done here and everything has always been terrific. I am really not sure if it is "moderate" or "pricey" as we haven't been anywhere else in years, so am erring on the side of $$$. Regardless, it is a great value. As a person in the art business, I have entrusted them to frame works with values in the five and six digits and I sleep soundly at night knowing the work is in the right hands. They have a fabulous selection of moldings, and have artist suggestions if you ask for them. I've asked for custom elements and they can always accommodate. I cannot vouch for the work they actually do because after several detailed emails and a couple of phone calls, no one ever got back to me with an estimate. If a company cannot be bothered to return calls before they have your business, I question how I will be treated once I am a customer. After nearly 2 months of waiting, I went elsewhere. These guys came recommended by a designer friend. Definitely have the most options for framing if you are looking for modern high end frames. They are not cheap but definitely appreciated the first time discount they provided. The framers definitely have their own opinions about how things should be framed which could be helpful if you are looking for advice. Usually takes 3-4 week turnaround. read more
