What a delightful and much needed addition to the neighborhood! Although a few new cafes have been sprouting up in the Upper East Side, these cafes offer the usual fare, the standard Italian-American menus of espressos, cold brews, and, occasionally, matcha. I'm so glad an Asian coffee shop made its way in this predominantly white neighborhood, offering familiar flavors, from mung bean to coconut milk to pandan. I ordered their sweet mekong drink twice on two separate occasions, once with the extra shot of espresso and once without. Both iterations were delicious, and as someone who doesn't like strong coffee flavors, found the espresso complimentary to the sweetness and the milkiness of the pandan, mung bean, and coconut milk. I also ordered both of their fry breads, the nom bong and the ja kwai. The former was sweeter than the latter, but not in a dessert way. Both were great snacks to have alongside a cup of coffee or iced drink. I'm so glad Artara found its home in the Upper East Side, and I do hope they set their roots here for many years to come. I'm certainly adding this to my list of usuals. read more

My friend really wanted to try this coffee shop, so I tagged along. She had a iced mango matcha and I had hot strawberry matcha, and we shared lemon ciambella (donut but more delicious!). We greatly enjoyed our drinks. The space is small, but full of Cambodian theme. We sat there for about 30mins, chatting with each other, the owner and one of the Cambodian customer who comes there every day! Service was great and the ciambella delicious. It and our drinks were all not that sweet, which was perfect for us as a little dessert after our brunch. I will be back with more friends! read more

Possibly my favorite coffee I've tried in Upper East Side!! The coconut latte did change my life for the better. There's a lot of cool drinks I want to try from there! Some good looking pastries too. I visited Artara Coffee for the first time. What a lovely addition to the neighborhood, it is! It's a cozy yet comfortable space and has a welcoming vibe. I will say I found the iced matcha to be on the pricey side, at $9.53 for a large, but the quality was very good! There's no premixed matcha here, and it's made the traditional way. The strawberry matcha wasn't too sweet and the strawberry didn't overpower the matcha. I would come back again. read more

Must try: Phnom Penh and Nom Bong! Why: Cambodian coffee shop on UES?! Yes, please! I crave Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Cafe Sua Da) and this new place hit the spot with their Phnom Penh iced coffee. Strong and sweet with condensed milk. I also got a Nom Bong fried pastry puff, which was warm with a slight crunch shell. Both were fantastic! Notes: Such a cute place outside and inside. Really delicious Cambodian coffee! This is a really tiny spot on the UES serving delicious coffee and some pastries. I got the Phnom Penh which is only served iced and it was delicious as well as strong. After learning about Artara on Instagram, I was pleasantly surprised that this was located in my neighborhood. It looked so cute, so I made an effort to check it out ASAP. It is located between 2nd and 3rd Ave at East 82nd St. (closer to 3rd Ave.) When you get to the cafe, it is my favorite shade of orange. A bright, welcoming color. You make your way down a staircase, and enter into a beautiful little Cambodian Cafe. It is run by a husband and wife team. They were both extremely lovely people. I am obsessed with pandan flavored anything, so when I saw they had a beverage with Pandan Soy Milk, I had wanted to try that. I went around 1:15pm, and they were sold out of the Sweet Mekong (panan soymilk) beverage, so I got the Strawberry Matcha Latte, and a Steamed Rice Cake. The matcha is strong and bitter, the jam at the bottom is nice and sweet. It was a good drink! The rice cake is so fantastic. I ate it by pulling it into 3 layers. Such an adorable cafe! It has steps that lead down but once you're in it's a cosy set up for some excellent flavors! We had the layer cake and the sweet Saigon pandas iced drink and both were exceptional! The servers were so nice and patiently explained all the drinks and gave us recommendations. THANK GOODNESS this new coffee shop opened in the UES offering authentic Cambodian coffee which is not even a concept you find easily in Queens, the World's borough. Got the Cafe Phnom (first on the menu) and it was similar to what you might recognize from Vietnamese Coffee- nice, STRONG, fragrant coffee sweetened with condensed milk to balance the bitterness. It was delicious and two things this neighborhood desperately needs - good coffee and a greater international cultural presence. I want to return for their rice cakes, which are reminiscent of Malaysian kuih / mochi, as they are probably made with tapioca or glutinous rice flour. This little Cambodian coffee shop is thriving on the upper east side! We've been coming here since they opened - it's great to be able to support a family run business with real faces to the business (they're all behind the counter!). My favorites are the coconut matcha cloud (coconut water with very strong matcha cold foam) and the Phnom Penh (like a Vietnamese coffee but stronger?!). Small space, down a set of stairs, with two small tables on the sidewalk and limited seating/standing room inside. read more

This new Cambodian coffee shop opened on the upper east side. You have to walk down a few steps to get to it. They made the space that they had beautiful and you feel like you are in Cambodia. I have never been but from what I know about it does. The people who work here are very nice. The space is super small but there is a little sitting area. I got an iced shaken espresso which was ok not really to my liking. I will be back to try something else. I also got a home made stream layer cake. They are soo cute. read more

My sister is always looking for unique coffee shops/cafes. We were meeting up at Central Park one day, so she suggested Artara Coffee nearby. We came on a Saturday at around 11, and there was a steady flow of people coming in and out. It's a Cambodian coffee shop, and they also have some pastries/sweets. My sister and I both had the Phnom Penh, which is a strong brewed iced coffee with condensed milk - similar to a Vietnamese iced coffee (though I'm not sure what the difference was - maybe the type of coffee they use?). It's very strong and it was a little too sweet for me - so definitely not something you want to drink on an empty stomach. Hubby had a strawberry matcha latte, which was basically half strawberry syrup/jam. It was WAY too sweet - even for him, and he loves sweets. We also tried some kind of a pink rice cake, which was nice. This one was unlike the drinks - it wasn't too sweet, so it was perfect. The shop is very small with probably just one table inside, and a few chairs/tables outside. Seems more like a to-go place, rather than a sit and chat café. read more

Stopped by this cute Cambodian coffee shop tucked away in the UES. Their Phnom Penh reminds of me Viet coffe because of its intense, butter coffee flavors with the sweetness from the condensed milk. The Pumpkin spice Phnom Penh already has its condensed milk mixed in with a bunch of spices, maybe a little too spicy. The steamed coconut cake radiated familiar Southeast Asian coconut and slight pandan-y flavors. I love the interior decor - lots of Cambodian designs and elements but also has that modern cafe vibes. They did add some fall/autumn touches. Despite being on a lower level (does have a flight of stairs), their big windows offer enough natural light. Limited seating indoors but still several tables and one small couch area. Laptops were welcomed on weekdays, not sure about weekends. Outdoor seating with 2 tables available too. I love finding new spots for coffee. This was my first time trying Cambodian coffee and it was a hit for sure, the phnom penh, which seemed to be a strong expresso with condenses milk. Similar style to Vietnamese coffee! They had really good strawberry matcha, the strawberry puree offered a nice balance to the matcha. The spot was so cute and orange, everything seemed to be from Cambodia, the servers were SO kind, you can tell he was very passionate about having people try Cambodian coffee. read more

Sooooo cute! What a gorgeous addition to the city! Immediately, there were customers filling the outdoor seats, and the staircase leading down to and well and inside was so beautifully decorated (including seasonal fall decor). Super warm and friendly staff upon arrival who greeted me immediately....really sets the positive tone. I love that they featured traditional Cambodia coffee and snacks - that's what I came for and went for the Phnom Penh, which was served cold and deeeeeeelicious!!! They had a variety of baked yummy goodies, and I went for the baked sesame ball which was yummy with coffee, not too sweet, as well as the fried doughnut stick. The staff was super friendly, welcoming, always smiling and I can tell they were so proud of the beautiful space they created. Would get this again! - taro cream puff $6.50: this was taro paste (? not sure if that's fully accurate though it felt more consistency of soft whipped taro than a traditional pastry cream) with whipped cream on top sandwiched by what I believe was choux pastry with craquelin. I think maybe because the this was sitting chilled/refrigerated for a while the top craquelin layer wasn't quite crispy anymore, though it looked nice. Personally it was a bit too much regular whipped cream, would've preferred more of a taro pastry cream. - mango pudding with fresh mango $6.50 mango flavor in the pudding was light though it was a nice tease of flavor. The texture was on the firmer side for puddings. The mangos were a bit oxidized though tasted ok, maybe glaze them or do something to maintain the color? Since this is a pretty new spot hope they could make a few improvements and blow it out of the park! I appreciated the owners' enthusiasm for sharing about their shop.

First 100 customers in line would receive a limited-edition sippy glass tumbler with attached boba straw & removable lid cover with his/her in-store purchase. They accept both cash and debit/credit card. The line was effectively managed with no line cutters, no arguing, and nothing crazy going on. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience. Lots of people have still showed up despite the really cold weather & down-pouring. Nothing gonna stop me from getting the cute glassware. Store opened and promotion started at 12:05pm. Everyone just ordered one by one towards the front when it was his/her turn. The Vietnamese Cloud Coffee was $7.52 (after tax). Hot/iced + medium/large drinks have different set of prices btw. Staff then handed me the glassware & a free sampler bowl of their soon-to-launch either lemongrass chicken/pork rice bowl after accepting payment. Portion was definitely more on the generous side to say the least. Devoured the sampler bowl in 15 mins because I was hungry & aside from keeping the rain not getting into the food. Flavorful lemongrass chicken + appetizing pickled carrot + fresh, crunchy sliced cucumber laid on a blanket of fluffy white rice. All the ingredients went well together. This is something I would definitely buy for lunch/dinner if this item ever gets added to the menu in the future. I ordered a hot Vietnamese Cloud Coffee, a new drink on the menu. My first time actually ordering a hot drink from Tea & Milk. Usually go for the iced drinks but I was feeling quite cold. So, I needed something hot to hold in my hands. Vietnamese Cloud Coffee - Cà Phê Trứng (Egg Coffee) is made with egg yolks + Vietnamese coffee powder. Lastly, it's lightly sweetened with condensed milk to give off an all-around creamy texture and taste similar to tiramisu. Something created with such simple ingredients yet could feel so soothing at the same time. A hot coffee-based drink on a cold, rainy day is like a snuggly hug. Staff called out your name when it was ready for pickup. Love starting my day off with the strong flavor of Vietnamese coffee! By far, this might actually be the best tasting Vietnamese coffee I have had in all my years. And, I'm usually not a coffee person either. Didn't taste watered down and/or heavily sweetened at all. Everything's just right. Definitely would be going back next time for other coffee/fruit tea drinks.
