This was a great choice. I grabbed a cinnamon roll, and ordered a cup of their filtered coffee (they no longer offer Chemex, sadly) and an order of poached eggs on toast with a side of bacon. This was something new for me, and I loved the simplicity of it. The sourdough toast was amazing, and the poached eggs went with it perfectly. High marks for the bacon also! Service was quick, and everything was brought out promptly. This is a nice coffee shop, plenty of seating, and a quiet place to have a conversation or get some work done. I know the people in the UK love their tea, but I would happily be a regular here if I lived in Belfast.

Ok, donuts; we had A vanilla glazed - just a "control" for the taste science experiment. I have to say it was delicious and fresh, weighty and "doughy". A Boston Creme - the creme was SO GOOD. As a former donut baker, I was impressed with the minimally invasive "creme hole". Nothing was leaky, and the creme itself had a great consistency. The chocolate on top was dark, textured, and great accent visually and for the palate. A chocolate noh-tella: which for a vegan donut tasted surprisingly "unvegan". The donut was dense and full flavoured regardless of the filling; the filling was more viscous than Nutella and had generous sized nuts. A apple chai : yet to eat but apple filled, infused with chai. Looks delicious. Unlikely to be a gimmick. Donuts are so often gimmicks; a crappy donut with some bright colour slapped on it to give it appeal. But a real donut is good regardless of how dressed up it may be; and for that, the vanilla glazed takes the cake. Or yeast. Or dough. Do have a pop in. There's a mix of comfortable sofa seating and lunch style tables ideal for groups. There is a big queue at lunch time but the capable waiting staff work through it admirably. I find the coffee good, sweet treats delicious and service from staff spot on. There's no table service unfortunately, instead you queue up to order and pay. This is fine if you're with friends who can grab a table while you order but if you're on your own it's sometimes awkward as all tables can be occupied by the time you've queued up and made your purchase. This is the only flaw with Ground, it's often very busy and I occasionally give it a miss as I know I'll not get a table on certain days (e.g. Saturday). Despite this, there's a wonderful mellow ambience to Ground that's delightful - the sort of unique soothing vibe only found in bookstores and art galleries. A super spot to 'chill out' in during off peak shopping hours.

A little known fact: in 1954, the first flavoured crisps were invented by Joe "Spud" Murphy (owner of the Irish company Tayto) who developed a technique to add cheese and onion seasoning during production. The cafe was comfortable and clean. There was a tv but not much banter from the staff who talked mostly among themselves once you were served. They don't have WiFi either which I found very poor in a busy city centre place located not far from the courts and public sector services. I didn't pay, so I've no idea of their prices. So it's borderline 3 stars.

This new store has lots of seating compared to the other two. Queues at present are relatively small compared to the other two cafes, but I think that's because nobody knows about it yet!
