When you get a ticket that requires a court appearance, you get tons of solicitations from law firms seeking your business. There are some that will even take your case for a promised $99. I think that's a false economy. The retainer I paid, which was quite reasonable, paid for Jim's time, experience, knowledge, and everything you expect it to. But it also paid for his years of building trustworthy relationships with the other people involved in the process, like district attorneys and judges. Jim Doermann's firm is not one of the cut-rate ones, but it's a fairly priced firm and they certainly did a great job for me. It was money very well spent.

Rather than apologizing for the repeated scheduling issues, the conversation focused almost entirely on my Yelp review. During the call, he repeatedly mentioned that my consultation had been free and that he normally charges $375, as if I should be grateful despite the mistakes made by his office. I also felt that I was talked over throughout the conversation and that my concerns were never genuinely acknowledged. What upset me the most was that he framed the situation as me, a Black man, trying to tear down another Black man. I found that comment inappropriate and completely unrelated to the actual issue, which was the way my appointment had been handled. My concern had nothing to do with race. It was about professionalism, communication, and accountability. A sincere apology for the scheduling mistakes would have gone a long way. Instead, I felt as though I was being blamed for leaving an honest review about my experience. I was also left with the impression that my business was not valued because I was not yet a client. This entire experience reinforced why I wrote the original review. In my opinion, the office was disorganized, communication was poor, and when legitimate concerns were raised, they were met with defensiveness rather than accountability.
