It was empty at 12, but people started trickling in. I ordered a couple IPAs while I was there and their beer is spot on. The lady behind the bar didn't speak English very well, since it was out of the tourist part of town, but she was nice enough. My wife kept asking for no oil on her pizza, but then she said "No olio" She recognized it immediately. Pizza was a little greasy and for Italy we wanted perfect pizza. It was maybe a 7 of 10. Here is what I got, Morgan's IPA, Marinara Pizza, and Lambrate pizza(truffle cream, goat cheese, smoked duck, marscapone) The duck was awesome but my wife was less than impressed by her pizza. If I lived nearby, I would definitely drop in for a few beers a few times a week.

If I get this right, they offer a different "theme" of dishes on different days of the week (closed on Tuesday), from pasta to fish to a foreign country theme (in my case it was the latter, the country being Morocco). So you order an aperitivo and dishes from the special menu. Each dish is only €3 (!!) but then they seem to add a surcharge of €3 per drink during aperitivo hour. Slightly strange concept and very penalising for a committing alcoholic like myself ;-) The Moroccan aperitivo menu consisted of an antipasto option (mixed starter), a primo (cous cous) and a secondo (some meat dish). I had a big lunch so only had the starter (see picture - quite tasty) and took the remaining calorie balance in liquid form. Speaking of which - the cocktail menu offers some interesting options (not all of the classics are listed, but these guys seem to know their stuff, just ask for what you want) and compared to the Rivalta Caffé, the drinks are balanced less sweet here. They have an interesting selection of vermouth, with some labels that are hard to come by outside of Italy. They also understand their bitters, with the likes of Bittermen's, Fee Brothers, Bitter Truth, Booker's and others present. It's not easy to find a good place to pick up some non-Italian food in Tuscany, especially outside…read moreof Florence city but Lowengrube is excellent for when you're in the mood for some good Bavarian ambience and dining! It's strange location in the industrial zone of Limite, a tiny town not far from Empoli, doesn't change the fact that it's a favorite with locals and is always jam-packed on weekends. If you don't book on a Friday or Saturday evening, you are almost sure to get turned away at the door. The menu is almost completely Bavarian complete with several sausage platter combinations, goulasche, roasted/grilled meats, pretzels along with hamburgers and some (but not many) pasta dishes and pizzas. The beer menu is exhaustive, unfortunately I'm not a beer fan but the friends that I've gone with are always happy with the selection. I've been several times including last night and they had some Oktoberfest brews available. The place is reminiscent of German restaurants, completely in wood and the servers are all dressed in traditional Bavarian garb. I've tried the sausages/hot-dogs which are are excellent and usually served with a large pretzel, cabbage salad (they call it "crauti" which implies sauerkraut but it's not sauerkraut but rather just thinly sliced raw cabbage) and potatoes. My favorite dish is the goulasche, hearty and filling. The service is good, the waiters are all young and friendly (not necessarily common in Italy) and there're quick in the kitchen. If you're not into packed places with crowds of young people, then avoid the weekends. During weeknights it's much better and a good family restaurant as it also has a little kinder room with some toys for the little ones. The bathrooms are also clean which is a big plus. All in all for Italy I'd say this place is excellent! It's definitely where I go when I'm craving something different from the usual Italian meal!
