Just had our christmas meal party here. We had booked for 38 so got 4 tables. The party started at…read more7.30 the tables were quite tight together and there was not much room. There were nice cardboard hats on the tables along with crackers which held the usual cheap jokes and plastic fish in. The bar service was quick. Cheapest bottle of wine was £13.95 but a jack daniels and coke was only £2.90 so not too bad. The food was quite nice, a small white bun with some nice veggie soup though the portions were not large. For the main meal it was turkey dinner or goats cheese tart wih tomato and carmelised onions which was lovely this came with a slice of stuffing, a pig in blanket with the turkey, sprouts and carrots and roast potatos the sprouts were really well cooked. The pudding was a lovely mixed berry chessecake which could have done with some more sauc or christmas pudding. Coffee for afterwards and then some dancing. The dance floor wasl large enough the DJ though was playing too much pop music and didnt bring out the good old christmas tunes till much later on also lacking was any 60 or 70 music until late in the night. The toilets were okay but only 3 and of the 150 that the place caters for most were girls so very busy. It didnt finsih until 1 so a good night out not badly priced but you have to make sure you are friendly with the person your sitting with as a lot of brusing of elbows goes on.

A worrying amount of feedback throughout Rob Heron and the Teapad Orchestra's album launch made for numerous mildly annoyed ears and some serious death glares from the band in the general direction of the sound man. Having said that, there might have been a problem with the equipment or instruments or cables, and when the sound was good, it did stay that way for a while. I once watched my sound engineer friend set up a ten piece ska band in the basement of a tapas restaurant. Just watching this made for a terribly stressful experience. At the end of the night, he was one giant bead of sweat. Rob Heron's band were on the larger side that night, with additional brass players. So I get that sometimes things might not go to plan. Regardless, it really didn't make the night any less enjoyable and we all agreed that we'd come back to the Cluny in a heartbeat and even love to play as a band. It's a great sized venue with a genuinely homegrown feel to it. From the posters strewn across the wall, it's clear that the Cluny is proud of its local music scene. With a kick-ass kitchen next door and what looked like a knock-'em-dead selection of beer, the Cluny is quite the place for music in Newcastle. Oh, and the floor bounces, YEAH.

Amazing! Probably one of the best meals I have had in the UK. Admittedly I ordered items that are…read moremore about the sourcing but the preparation needs to be raved about as well. All of the small details shined along with the clearly great sourcing mastermind behind this establishment. I started with the oysters. I was amazed with them their freshness and buttery taste and texture as well as a brilliant horseradish sauce that didn't overpower but rather added to the experience. As a main I had the rib-eye with a peppercorn topping. If there was any negative it only would be to the imagination of the sides which were chips /fries and onion rings with some salad leaves. But do not misunderstand me here the main star was clearly the ribeye. Not only cooked to perfection but the sourcing of the meat was incredible. This is no understatement as I eats steak multiple times a week, always ribeye and most of the time US prime. However this steak was incredible and the peppercorn sauce again did not overpower the steak but rather complimented it. I finished with the cheese plate and a glass of port. The cheese selection was spot on and I exceptionally enjoyed the blue. The chutney was probably the best accompaniment for the cheese selection. Crackers were ok and I could have used a toast but it didn't matter. Service was impeccable, even in a rushed setting it was perfect. All suggestions were spot on, never felt rushed and it always felt friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I would definitely come back and go out of my way to come back.
