It's $11 for adults. Buy the ticket on the side of the house. Look for signs. The tours are self guided with docents stationed in each room. The tickets are sold in the gift shop. During holiday they have cider and cookies ( nothing special). Start with some info before the 7 min video. It's bad quality but what do u expect from 1986?!? They have the old house floor plans and pictures of the family tree. The main house is amazing but access/tour is only the first floor. People seem to complain but honestly it's a small preservation organization that are doing their best to restore and have mainly volunteers working. The grounds are lovely. Spring looks better. And was told every two years has some artist sculpture event. Winter has xmas decorations.

How can i forget Women's Studio Workshop???…read more There's no way I could gush enough praise of this place that would come close to describing how wonderful it is! gosh, where do i start?? 1) The studios: They transformed an old hardware store from the 1800s into a two story art studio that includes areas for: paper-making, printmaking, letter pressing, bookbinding, ceramics, photography and silk screening. It's set in the woods and surrounded by nature 1 mile outside the small, Hudson Valley town of Rosendale, NY. 2) The artist opportunities: They offer fellowships, studio rentals, residencies, paid-internships and grants for artists (mainly women, but not exclusively female) to come use their studios and create work. --- I, myself, was accepted as a studio intern and lived and worked on the premises for 6 months in the fall of 2005. I learned more in that six months then i did in 4.5 years in art school. 3) Classes: For artists who don't have the time to take off 4-6 weeks to work as a fellow or resident The Summer Arts institute offers 3-5 day classes (lunch included) in all of the studios areas: paper-making, printmaking, letter pressing, bookbinding, ceramics, photography and silk screening. 4) The women: Ann, Tana and Anita (the founders and owners) are all talented artists, friendly, compassionate and inspiring women. ... for everything i missed their website is a wealth of additional detailed information on classes and artist opportunities: http://wsworkshop.org/ .... sigh... I have to admit, this little piece of history reminds me of the colonial era spots in Virginia…read more They offer tours (I had just missed one when I got there) but there are info plaques at the houses, and there is a map you can use to pretty much do your own tour.... the pictures I got were totally awesome. I think the grave yard was one of my favorite spots... all of that history, and the artwork that goes into the memory of those that are gone. The churches and houses all were so pretty and well kept. The whole town itself is absolutely cute, and there are plenty of places to eat after you explore.

The facility was surprisingly large with a massive breadth of information, most of which was left for you to read (if you did not take the guided tour), though there was some video content as well. Some of the modeled recreations were rather old and not very detailed, but the authentic items on view were very interesting. Overall, it was a decent way to spend an hour or two, but I would not say that you would NEED to go out of your way to visit (at least from the indoor perspective).

(OK, I guess theater, since they're also set up for live events, the stage looks super fun). While the original place has clearly been chopped up a bit, as these things have happened over the years, to make multiple screens, the smaller main theater retains much of its original charm. The sound was among the best I've ever heard -- forget the mall theaters with their cookie cutter speaker systems, this place feels like the audio has actually been tuned to the space. Not too loud but utterly clear and encompassing. Throw in interesting programs and very, very reasonable concession prices on top of super friendly staff, even though the Orpheum is quite a haul for us, we are definitely returning, especially for the special festival programming. Now I want to buy some merch so I can spread the word.
