From a tough presidency (I assume all are), to returning to simple life is enlightening. The house itself is beautiful but not overwhelming. There is little to nothing show this was the house of the most powerful man on the planet. You can tell he loves his family and simplicity. If you are a fan of President Truman I would recommend going to get tickets for the tour early. The tour is about 30 minutes but well worth it. If you are in the Kansas City area stop in and visit.

I feel it's very important for our loved ones to receive visits from their children and their loved ones to keep them going strong mentally. But Leavenworth prison is far from kid friendly! There is no family area.. there is nothing for the kids to do. Typically, you would expect the visiting area to have games to play and enjoy while visiting with the inmates, but they provide nothing but games with over half of the pieces missing. Theres not even a simple card game like uno, or skip Bo. And the couple decks of playing cards that they did have, weren't even a full deck. They don't provide paper for the kids to color on, they just get paper towels. This makes it hard to enjoy the visit and keep kids entertained with there being nothing to do but eat from the vending machine, which provides nothing but snacks. So if you're planning a visit, Just be prepared to have plenty to talk about and for the kids to be bored out of their mind in this extremely small visiting room that has nothing to entertain the kids. You can really tell this facility does not care about the inmates or the visitors by how they treat you and what they provide.

The Midwest Genealogy Center is a gem for those interested in their family histories. I can spend…read morehours at a time and not know where the time went. The library has an outstanding collection of genealogical resources and through a partnership with the Family History Library in Salt Lake, the resources available are nearly endless. You also have access to electronic resources through Ancestry Library Edition while you are on-site. What I like best is the layout of the library. It has a very open feel, complimented by high windows that allow a lot of sunlight to come in. There are many different working configurations...desks, tables, chairs and sofas. I find that this library is much more comfortable than most and I'll drive the 30 minutes to do my research here rather than working from a closer library. Not sure where to start? The Midwest Genealogy Center offers several classes for all levels of amateur genealogists. You can also arrange a consultation with a volunteer genealogist to help you overcome any research barriers. Except for this recent weather. And the crime rates, and the increasing lack of affordable housing, but let's save those for another day. This sign showcases the historic building with a touch of flashiness, and almost-artistic quality, but yet it isn't over the top. Pretty 'on brand' for Kansas City if I may say so. I once posed the question, what do you consider more iconic: The Western Auto Sign or the Plaza Lights around the holidays? For me, the easy answer is the Plaza Lights, but a case could be made for either. Both are fun, unique elements that our city gets to show off with.

He was a legend on the field, and had a huge, warm personality that never let life get him down, even if he had reason to. It's cool to see tributes to him throughout KC like this park. Plus, a major area bridge is soon to be called the Buck O'Neil bridge. The murals on this park are second to none. Just so cool to be welcomed as you come in to the historic 18th & Vine neighborhood with this. Naturally, there's a baseball diamond as well. After checking out this tribute park, turn right and head to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to get the whole history, and take in another KC gem.

It isn't large, but it's full of personality. A small space in one of Kansas City's oldest neighborhoods that comes with a dirt infield, a picket fence and a few murals that remind you of the old days. It's also right around the corner from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which is a treasure trove of baseball lore. Buck was one of the leading voices behind the museum, which has become one of Kansas City's crown jewels. Like many, I've got a Buck O'Neil story. You could get lost on the very bottom floor if you were here for the first time-it's that expansive. All you can ask for out of a university library. Wish the coffee place on the main floor (floor 3) had more hours of availability though. Otherwise, this place has 5 star facilities and is a library where you can come regardless of your major, and still find a great spot to study.
