There is so much to see also, I would gladly have paid for entry. There is a large hall that features a lot of original native arts and animals from various regions around the world. Another area features animals from all areas around the globe. Of course a large area dedicated to Australia specific history, from it's people to it's animals including those unfortunately extinct. A whole section for dinosaurs. A children's area and a fabulous gift shop are also housed here. This is so worth a visit, especially on a rainy day.

Was a fab evening of circus performances on the big top stage and fun activities - dress up in circus costumes, ride on the carousel, have a go at hula hooping, plate spinning, etc. Inbetween the main performances there was a band playing and we enjoyed drinks from the bar and free popcorn and candy floss, whilst a magician entertained the crowd. We also spent time having a look at the circus exhibits. The night culminated with an exciting fire juggling display outside the front entrance. Really enjoyed the event and think it's a great idea for museums to hold special after hours events that tie in with their temporary exhibitions and bring them to life. Most of the rest of the museum wasn't accessible during the event but I'd seen enough to inspire another visit to check out the museum itself when I returned to Sydney later. As its name suggests, the museum is housed in an old power station building which is a large and spacious venue. The exhibits cover subjects like transport, steam engines, electricity, computers, modelmaking, etc. I was excited to have a poke around the life-sized space shuttle model in the space section, disappointingly part of it was taped off as out of order. Unfortunately, we came across other interactive exhibits elsewhere in the museum that weren't working either. I'd have rated it four stars if it wasn't for this as it's quite an interesting place.

Located in the middle of the city, within walking distance. You are allowed to take photos here, avoid the flash. Came here to see their amazing European art collection. Claude Monet's Port Goulphar 1887, beautiful color with detailed brushstrokes. One of my favorite paintings. Vincent Van Gogh's hand of a peasant 1884 was great, lot's of people checking this one out. Another must see was Pablo Picasso's reclining women on a couch 1939. You can get lost in his paintings. I made sure to take time to walk through the Australian art section. I enjoyed seeing the paintings on the animal hides and showcasing so much history. Lot's of talented local artists.

There's also two floors on WWII and the establishment of Israel, along with Holocaust survivors you can talk to, take tours with, and learn from. Peter brought tears to my eyes with his story. The ladies who run the show at the front are very helpful. The gift shop, while expensive, has some cute stuff. I may have dropped some money there. There's a café as well. Moreover​, it touched my heart seeing school field trips and learning about Jewish history and hardships. I spent a good three hours here. FYI there's WiFi.

We spent 3-4 hours at this museum. The first floor is what I'd expect from a Jewish museum - it tells you about the religion and its practices; it also talks a little about the first Jews to settle in Australia. Then the upper 2 or 3 floors deal with the Holocaust. It was very well done, and there were lots of interesting exhibits. I've been to many concentration camps in Europe and even compared to those, I think this museum does a great job. As good as the museum was, there were a few things I didnt like. For example, although photography is not forbidden, you can't take pictures of the inside of the building; its limited to specific pieces or displays. That's really too bad because the building is quite unique architecturally on the inside. But the big problem I found was that it was absolutely mobbed by students on school trips. So much so that we were pushed out of certain areas when they came through. So overall, it's a good museum and worth visiting. Due to the students though, I'd recommend going on a weekend or in the afternoon.

Walking through The Rocks after their fantastically fun Sunday Market in Sydney, this charming…read morelittle museum caught my eye with a group of old fashioned whisk brooms piled out front. Ducking in, the staff member shared the purpose of the Museum and we determined to swing by on Monday. If you enjoy "slice of life" historical properties, then I recommend a visit here. One hour is plenty and there are mandatory, guided tours on the hour. The four terrace flats are the real show here -- along with the stories shared by your guide/ interpreter. Vaguely reminiscent of NYC's Tenement Museum in its approach, the stories of the families who lived in Sydney in these spaces can inspire the imagination. Each Terrace highlights several different eras - there is no one single era kitted out completely in one home. One tip: The Museum Pass for $18 (as of Dec 2013) is well worth it if youre planning on seeing the Hyde Park Barracks as well. Doing this will also get you into the Museum of Sydney and the Police/Crime Museum open on Weekends for the same price. If you have to discriminate, the Hyde Park should be the priority followed by this little gem.

Our tour guide was excellent and really considerate as he had to deal with me and my foot in a boot (cast). He kept offering places for me to sit and make sure I could make it up the steep steps. They have a very different approach then on the US where we keep the homes more intact- here they leave them to deteriorate. If you like learning about history you will love this- I did.
