Personally, I could spend a decent amount of time reading through the gallery exhibits, but younger kids can't really see or reach a lot of them, so I think they'd get bored pretty quickly. There are a few interactive activities like creating your own recipe or using the peg boards but they felt a little gimmicky rather than being a core part of the experience. The paint room was probably the highlight for kids since there were lots of supplies and things to create, but I didn't see anything my son couldn't already do at home. With that said, kids could probably spend an hour or more here so it should definitely keep them busy. That's kind of where the museum confuses me. I thought this was aimed at younger kids but many of the exhibits are better appreciated by adults. At the same time, older kids will probably find the children's activities too basic. It ends up feeling like it's trying to appeal to everyone without fully committing to one audience. Admission should be much cheaper or donation based. If you're visiting the area, check with your local library first because many libraries offer free passes, and that's definitely the way I'd recommend going. Ironically, I think I'd enjoy coming back by myself more than with my kids. I'd take my time going through the galleries and learning about Eric Carle's work. With young kids though, I found myself feeling rushed because they weren't really engaged. Some people were having academic conversations that may well have lasted longer. Their principal exhibition was a variety of Native American (and Australian) works which provided a robust overview of a wide variety of cultures. Some of the other exhibitions were kind of screechy and political and didn't really offer much as art, but they rotate exhibits and some variation in quality is expected. The parts where they let art speak for itself were worth visiting.

They had awesome decor, music videos, haunt videos, and live actors who jumped into the crowd at one point. The haunt itself was super fun. It had a great mix of live actors, story, and large animatronics. Tip: If you get to an obstacle that you want to skip (like crawling), there are side passages you can use, just ask the staff.

When I first went many years ago, there were no badges back then, so I don't see how management could know that the wait was *never* that long. For being so dependent on story telling, the little videos throughout the haunt have terrible audio quality. This is one of 10 haunts I visited this year, the lack of jump scares isn't the issue.

There is a medium-sized lot in front, with an overflow lot across the street. We ended up in the overflow lot. The combined ticket costs $25 for adults. Theoretically, you can see all 5 museums. However, as we arrived later in the day we only were able to see 2 of them. If you want to maximize your value, arrive earlier in the day. We walked out of the ticket lobby into the central sculpture garden / lawn. From there, The Dr. Seuss Museum is ahead and to the right. If you turn left and walk to the end of the lawn, you will come to the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum on your left. When we were there, they had a piano on the covered arcade along the front of the building. This was a magnet - various people played a bit during our visit. I suspect that some of the other 4 museums don't get the same level of exposure / traffic as Seuss. This one was much bigger but less crowded. The guard / docent was very helpful and gave us a brief history of the place. It was the original of the 5 museums, built around 1905. A young Ted Geisel could have explored it, in fact, as he lived in the area. It is part of that class of museums where Gilded Age millionaires were getting on in years and were looking to leave a legacy and find somewhere to house the stuff they'd picked up on their world travels. That is not meant to be condescending in any way. The Smiths had certain interests and collected things in those areas. The museum has a room devoted to Samurai armor, one for Chines jade, one for Islamic (mostly fabric) art, a huge gallery of plaster replicas of Greek and Roman statues from antiquity, and a room of (at the time) contemporary artworks (now about a century old) of artists of interest to the Smiths. The architecture is an exhibit in its own right. One room in particular (where the Samurai items are displayed) has tiffany windows each dedicated to someone like Shakespeare, Dante, etc. If you are here and pay for the collective admission, by all means stop by and see this place as part of your visit.
