The Arvada Center is a spectacular venue, if you're not too far away. For us, the 25 minute drive is well worth it. Plan to arrive early if you're seeing a live performance as there are multiple galleries to spend some time with, along with light bites and beverages. There are so many seating areas sprinkled throughout the space, if ya wanna just lounge while you wait. Speaking of light bites and beverages, they have some decent offering and aren't too over the top for what'd you'd expect to pay at a live performance. I also don't mind supporting such a great venue and organization. We've seen a few performances at a couple of their theatres. My favorite is likely the most intimate space, The Black Box Theatre. The other larger space is well laid out, just bigger. I love the creativity and variety of their offerings. We've seen so many great shows. Def will return. And, the last time we were there, we learned about their spring plant sale that took place in their parking lot. Who knew? We went and really appreciated the local community collaboration. Check them out. It'll be a great experience. read more

My family took me here for a play. We have enjoyed many events and activities here over the years. The ticketing process was easy. Done online, we had QR code tickets for the event that were scanned at the door. The staff is welcoming and they are eager to help. I did notice that the seats are quite close so if it is a packed house, it feels like you are sitting on top of the folks around you. Also, the stairs in the Main Stage theater are quite steep. I noticed several senior citizens making their way down with canes and it was quite an endeavor for them. We thoroughly enjoyed the production. The cast and crew were top notch. I ended up getting to stay for "Lyle, Lyle Crocodile" when I dropped my son off for a field trip last week. It had been years since I'd seen a show at The Arvada Center. We had so much fun! The actors were great and the sets and the story were very charming. My son and I enjoyed looking at the art displays on the way in and out. The whole audience at our show was made up of school groups, and I was impressed at the professional and efficient manner in which staff got all of the kids in and seated- really well done! I have visited Arvada Center for the arts and have had a tremendous good time at the exchange program approved.... We recently attended a Yelp Event. Everyone that we conversed with that had to do with the museum or the arts itself were very friendly leading us in the direction that we needed to go ! We really didn't do any shopping while we were there, but we did look around and it was pretty amazing some thing to go back and check out some of the prices of items that were displayed for sale. Had a pretty good price on them and the selection was pretty decent as well, we enjoyed our event and we definitely will be back for other events there at the Arvada Center. I just absolutely love the Arvada center. I love the arts that's displayed there. I love the theater there too. I've been here for a couple different events. It's such a great little venue. I came here to see 'a gentleman's guide to love and murder' and it was such a superb play. I love that their theater have cascading seats which allows everyone to see and no one is ever blocked from view. This venue is always well kept. The prices for the plays are very reasonable. You can't go wrong in seating choices. I most definitely am coming back. read more

Why have I not been here sooner? The Arvada Center is truly impressive. From the outdoor sculpture park to the parking. It's all fantastic. I loved the main stage because you get a great view from every seat. We were on the far right side of the stage and still had a great view of everything going on. And the production was everything I wanted and more. Just outstanding! read more

"Recently, my friend invited me on a personal tour. As you walk into the local cultural spot, it immediately captivates you with whimsical strips and vibrant colors hanging from above. Children's and adult creations adorn the walls and floors, creating a magical atmosphere. We came in for the free art tour service they provide through the city of Arvada which is absolutely phenomenal- It was a delightful visit, well spent time especially for those who appreciate artistry. Well there I also picked up the current schedule of spring classes available, and I was ecstatic to see the watercolor art classes being offered. It's a place where I can let my creative spirit run free. I might even try a tap dance class; they offer a good selection of classes. I'm sure the instructors are worth every dollar spent. I realize how much I have yet to learn--a great starting point to explore new interests. read more

Came here for the Yelpies and location wise it wasn't great coming all the way from Aurora, however I will say the venue is very good and it looks like they have a lot of shows that families can come and enjoy. They also have a history of Arvada museum inside. The place is huge and maybe one of these days I can enjoy the venue more and come to a show. read more

I've seen a couple shows here, it's consistently very good regional theater. Decent variety, with a mix of recognizable crowd pleasers and newer shows. Prices seem a bit high at first glance, but the actors and production are high quality. The building is a bit big and sterile: you feel more like you're heading to a city council meeting than to a theater. But on the plus side, there's plenty of space for the free art gallery that features regularly rotating exhibits thoughtfully curated. read more

Incredible event space!!! I moved to Colorado in 1998 and even lived in Arvada for about a year. This past weekend is the first time I have ever been here, and I was impressed. I can't wait to come back during the summer to see how great the outside is, but the inside is enormous. Will call was simple and easy. There was a greeter directing us to where we needed to go and encouraging us to see the gallery. The artwork was very powerful and a few of the pieces we felt would look good in our own homes. Seating was comfy and not cramped like some theaters, which was a nice surprise. The tea we ordered was wonderful and well worth the money. My only complaint was that the AC was still on, and it was snowing outside. But the tea was perfect. I look forward to seeing what other productions they offer and attending again. Wonderful place to see a play! There are 2 theatres in the center. We attended Animal Farm in the black box theatre. The seats are comfy, it is a bit of an incline to get to your seats. My Mother had a bit of a rough time getting to her seat. The hand rail is a little far from the actual seat. I would suggest side viewing seats or lower rows if you have a hard time on the stairs. The cast in this play were awesome! We really enjoyed it! I want to go back to walk around the garden art walk. Looked pretty cool! read more

All the years I lived in Colorado and this is the first time Ive been here. This is a large center that has seasonal displays of locally generated art both inside and out and a few small theatres on the second floor plus an outdoor auditorium . I came here for an ensemble of the play "The Laramie Project". It was a great and powerfully moving tribute the life of Matthew Shepard. I plan to attend more shows here in the future. read more

This was my first time here and thought this was an excellent venue! I had received tickets to see "The Laramie Project" inside the Black Box Theatre. Picking up tickets from will call, we had lots of time to spare so we walked thru the art gallery that had an exhibit up for display based on a staff members recommendation. It was very cool. Afterwards we headed upstairs to the 2nd floor where that theatre was located and grabbed a snack and drink prior to going in. You can bring drinks inside just not the snacks so we made sure to finish in enough time to go find our seats. I didn't realize I had chosen the first row! But that turned out to be a good thing, the theatre is a cool set up! The stage area is small in front of you and then there are a few rows off to each side of the set as well. It was a great performance, the actors were great! The show was of a very heavy subject nature and there were not many dry eyes in the house once it ended, including mine. The place was very clean, all members of staff we encountered were super nice and helpful! I would definitely come back for another performance some day! read more

Just attended their production of The Laramie Project. Sadly I couldn't stay for the whole thing but saw most of it. Powerful and moving this production tour at my heart strings. I very very much enjoyed it and the actors. Everyone was super super friendly and I cannot wait to attend another performance. Clean & well air conditioned. I saw 3 exhibits of Colorado artists (Floyd Tunson, Anthony Garcia Sr. and Lola Montejo). Tunson does mixed media, abstract and paintings of people juxaposed with animals. Garcia does very colorful murals. Montejo does abstract painting. Many of the pieces were available for sale. All exhibits were free. Got a ticket at the box office to enter galleries. Free parking. The Arvada Center has 2 indoor theatres (Black Box & Main Stage) + an outdoor amphitheatre for the Summer Concert Series. They offer classes + event rentals. read more

The Arvada Center has been a treasure to the community ever since its founding decades ago. Over the years we have seen many concerts, plays, and musicals all of which have been excellent productions! Most recently we saw The Laramie Project in the Black Box Theater. It's an intimate setting, smaller than the main stage which allows for a more personal experience when presenting an emotional play like Laramie. The Laramie Project is poignant, profound, and engaging. It's characters are regular folks struggling to come to terms with a tragedy of major importance. The audience is invited to go on the journey of learning about hard truths, empathy, compassion, acceptance, forgiveness and acceptance. The actors and crew did a wonderful job of capturing the importance and depth of Matthew Shepherd's story. read more

We had the pleasure of seeing Our Town in the black box theater and we were just blown away. The actors and amazingly talented. The black box is a neat set up where the stage is in the middle and the seating is stadium up like four rows so really get a great vantage no matter where you sit. I do wish we had time to walk around to the various art installations but will have to be another day! read more

We went here for a fun production called 'a year of frog and toad' and it is so cute. My three year old loved it. It's quite a well done musical production. Definitely entertaining enough for my three year old to sit thru the hour long show. There's also a lovely outdoor area with a huge dragon that was a hit with the littles. This fantastic, multi-purpose arts facility opened in 1976 and has grown to become one of the largest multidisciplinary arts centers in the country. There are three galleries, including the massive main gallery space plus the Upper and Theatre galleries, the 526 seat Main Stage and 226 seat Black Box theaters, an outdoor amphitheater with lawn seating, a large ballroom/conference center, and many well-equipped spaces for teaching acting/performance art, ceramics, dance, humanities, movement/yoga, music, photography, and visual arts. The Arvada History Museum is also located here. I attend most frequently to visit the art galleries which present shows of local, regional, and national significance that are extremely well-displayed and well-curated. The theater season and educational programs are also highly-regarded. The Center is particularly strong in musicals and has a robust children's theater program. Even better, there is a huge amount of convenient, free parking. All Arvada Center theater productions are created completely from scratch and are auditioned both locally and in New York and LA. The Black Box theater now has a repertory company that performs a series of plays throughout the season. Children's theater productions are presented to more than 70,000 children each year. The list of educational programs is extensive and the facilities are also open to educators, students, the public, and community groups. read more

Outstanding north suburban performing arts center. The focus is on theatrical productions with many plays and musicals offered each year, using both their MainStage and a smaller black box theater. An outdoor amphitheater supports concert and dance performances in the summer. Best way to keep up with all the offerings is subscribe to their email newsletters. Season subscriptions for the plays are a good deal and they have some nice flexible ticketing choices for subscribers. The art galleries are a highlight of every visit and it's good to allow extra time before a show to check out the art. In nice weather the sculpture park is a great stop as well. Lots of onsite parking. Unfortunately the Arvada light rail stop is a long ways from the center and not a viable option for most visitors. read more

Went on a field trip with my son here or else I'd never know it existed. Museums, art rooms, theaters and more. What a great resource. I wish I lived closer to it. We saw a play and did a craft, my son's class loved it. As we left they were wanting to explore the exhibits more and go to the playground. I would highly recommend it as an alternative to downtown Denver for shows and art. read more

What the heck is wrong with the folks who designed the outdoor venue. The lawn is on such a high pitch you can't sit or stand comfortably. The people who design and build places like this in Denver are a bit clueless. They did the same thing at Fiddler's Green. They build these places without any significant thought or planning of the pitch/grade. Just like they build and signage the roads in CO....clueless, non-thinking people. That's why there3's so many accidents and insurance rates are so much higher than else where. read more

We came to see Tarzan tonight. The play was not at all what I expected. It was MORE then I expected !!! The costumes were great! The props were fun to see in action. The cast were all very very talented and their voices when singing..... amazing! Like something off of a Disney movie :))) Jane played by Jennifer Lorae ----wow! I haven't been to a play since Easter and seeing this tonight has me in the mood to see many many more. Seating was front and center thanks to Piper who was amazing in the play- (parking outside) more then enough. The auditorium staff were very friendly and the atmosphere of the theatre was just great. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Arvada Center. We buy ticket packages for the theater performances and everything we've ever seen there has been spectacular. I never thought I was a fan of musicals but Momma Mia and Elf were both off the charts. Last night we saw the Diary of Anne Frank in the Black Box Theater, which is the smaller of the two theaters there, and it was amazing. I love escaping the hectic Denver scene to see plays and summer concerts at the AC. Beautiful setting, easy parking, intimate venue. Go early and enjoy the art exhibits before your event. read more

We've been coming here to see shows for a few years now. Two fine theaters, an excellent company, and great plays -- all for very reasonable ticket prices and free parking. You won't get the giant productions you can downtown, but for everything short of that, Arvada does an excellent job. read more

SUMMER CONCERT AT OUTDOOR AMPHITHEATRE We attended our first summer concert last night. I've been to many outdoor venues with lawn seating and I have to say this was the WORST LAWN SEATING EVER. The slope/pitch was extremely steep and I kept sliding down the hill. We brought a blanket (because lawn chairs are not allowed and now, I can see why).....and I could not stay on the darn thing, the incline was insane - forget about standing, now way. By the end of the concert, I was so sore, I could hardly walk. I can't believe that passed a safety inspection by the City. The venue itself was intimate and the sound was great, just DON'T SIT ON THE LAWN. read more

In order to be transparent in my review I have never attended a show here only conferences. I have attended an annual conference for the last three years that is always held here and those experiences is what this review is based on. The space is large, which is great for the large number of people that attend. However,the setup of the tables and chairs for the conference are very close together which makes it very hard to get to and from a center seat. Also, because there is food and drinks being consumed at those tables throughout the day I have seen numerous spills because it is so tight. The food is good, but the service is somewhat awkward. An example of the awkwardness is that there are Two large buffet tables of food outside the conference room, but coffee and tea table is inside the room in the corner and unless you wander you wouldn't know it's there. The WiFi is free IF you can get it to work. That's a big problem as the conference is for professionals. The spotty service also hinders should me of the presentations. My final observation is that the temperature control is extreme. The room is either very cold or very hot, neither of which is ideal for 8 hour days with multiple presenters. read more

Love the Arvada Center! The quality of shows produced here rivals most at the DCPA, and you get to park for free! This past year I saw Cabaret, The Lady With All the Answers, Hairspray, and The 1940's Radio Hour - all the shows were great. There are two theaters indoors - The Main Stage, which has a large center section and two angled side sections, and The Black Box, which is standard arena theater seating. Both theaters are much smaller than the Buell, so you never feel like you have a bad seat. Since seats can be pricey, you may want to consider the "value" sections they offer. However, you certainly wouldn't be disappointed paying the higher rate and sitting front and center - it's a great experience. The Center also has a concession stand upstairs where you can get some munchies or a quick drink. And, during intermission, you can wander around the building and check out the many artworks and costumes the Center has on display - some of the work is absolutely beautiful. If you're a fan of the Center, you may already know that they design and build everything in house, including the gorgeous sets and costumes. For Hairspray, they even had Denver based fashion designer (and Project Runway runner-up) Mondo as their lead designer. He did a fantastic job, as everyone expected he would. From what I've heard, auditions at the Arvada Center are quite a process, and most of the talent in the shows is local. They do hire folks from outside Colorado if they need that certain something - for example, Leo Ash Evens in Cabaret, or Jim J. Bullock in Hairspray. As much as I love supporting our local talent, it was a real treat to see both of these men perform. If you haven't yet seen a show at The Arvada Center, I highly recommend that you check out their 2012 lineup - the productions are top notch, and the size of the theater really lets you feel like you're in on the action. I know I'll be back several times next year, and I'm already looking forward to it! read more
