This place really is just a bar, so you'll have to find somewhere else to sit and eat it. That's all well and good for the non-layabout clientele this place is trying to attract! I found the soup menu quite uninspiring considering it makes up a whole half of this bar's title. They were all very homely mixtures such as tomato and sweetcorn and country vegetable, but sadly nothing very exciting. Luckily the juice menu makes up for that as I counted as many as 20 different types. Every fruit imaginable seemed to be on this board, including those rarer super-foods like acai berries! In relation to this, it seems there's a big prerogative in this place to be healthy, with helpful little stickers under certain types saying 'low fat.' If these don't satisfy you can even invent your own. I plumped for a non-stickered 'power up' juice which has soy milk, spirulina, strawberries, banana, honey and ice. It was, as you might have guessed from such a line-up of ingredients DEEE-LICIOUS. At only $7 its worth it to feel this healthy and happy!

The Emporium tries to source from local small businesses and growers which is commendable but of course all that stuff is more expensive. But fantastic if you can afford it! There's seating so you can stop for lunch or a coffee while you shop for your tempeh, vitamins, virgin oils or free range eggs and I really love the food here. I love me a bit of hippy food and their tofu fritters are delicious... and the coffee is great and fair trade, natch.

They have a resident naturopath ready to help with free consultations, a bulk food sections for those nuts, beans, grains and herbs you're ready to horde, a small resources section if that obscure vegan+gluten free cookbook has been eluding you, a juice and smoothie bar if you need that wheatgrass shot to really rev you up in the morning, and a deli counter with their own delicious creations from wraps and veggie patties to the world's best gluten-free macadamia nut brownies. I'm not joking about the brownies. They're small, but perfectly formed, just like the Health Emporium.

Some of the more unique items they sell are sprouted bread, coconut yoghurt, kefir sachets, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut, unpasturised 'beauty' milk, and fresh nut paste (you make it there). They also have a huge selection of seeds, nuts, dried berries (goji and blueberries amongst others), teas, natural herbs, flours and tinctures, the lesser-known grains like red quinoa and buckwheat. Celiacs with love this place - they have gluten free pastas, gluten free cake mixes, gluten free cereals - you name it they probably have it. A good selection of organic ice cream and frozen vegan 'meats' are also available as well as a selection of skin care ranges like Weleda and a good range of natural soap. They have a small range of organic fresh fruit and vegetables outside. I'm not particularly fond of my produce lying beside a car park even if it is organic but when organic bananas are going for $1 each I'm inclined to buy. The ladies are really helpful and there is a naturapath and herbalist available for free advice also.

It's a small store, but is absolutely packed with health foods and health supplements - some of which actually look well worth eating despite their purported benefits! It's the source of all my homemade muesli ingredients, though I rarely leave without being temped to add something new to my basket - the last was a tic-tac like pocket-pack of pure organic liquorice. Now that was a taste experience! And of course all the staff look suitably organic.

Water cress, really big leafy Basil bunches, a fantastic array of Tomato varieties. Many different types of Mushroom, and the thing that really made me come back after the first time. I finally found a supply Dutch cream potatoes here. (Only the best potato variety ever) In the vast selection of fridges you can find Duck and Goose fat. Gourmet frozen wontons like Peking duck and chive. High end frozen pasty and ready made pies. Olive oil, and Dukka. Balsamic, home made sauces and Australian goods. The idea is to keep the stock in large white buckets and let the customer take as much (or as little) as they require. Moral of the story? This place rocks it so remember to bring your own containers (or use their brown paper bags) and just scoop till you're stuffed.
