But coming from texas, where you can get a breakfast taco or burrito for no more than $6, buying a burrito from here made me nauseous I almost didn't want to eat it. Cool new little place in Eastown. They are a little sparse on ambience and their chairs and seating were kind of flimsy and cheap, but the food was actually quite good, good portions and high quality ingredients, and the chips and guac were excellent. Flavorful tacos, but I wouldve like to have seen some house-made salsas. They had good selection of bottles salsas to offer, but any great Mexican restaurant should have their own secret sauces. I have been waiting for good breakfast tacos like this since I moved back to Michigan. Their tacos are Austin-style Tex-Mex and remind me of slightly fancy versions of the ones from taco trucks down there. Soft tortilla, melty cheesy goodness, all of it. I had one Chorizo Con Papas and a BYO with egg, hashbrowns, and cheese. I'm kind of a weenie when it comes to spice, so I love that their salsa isn't crazy spicy (I'm sure you can ask for spicy salsa if you want it). I hope they start doing Migas, too. Definitely putting this one into my breakfast rotation. read more

Great addition to east town! I never tried modern tex mex tacos before, so was so glad I was able to stop. We had the chips and salsa and only got the tacos. They have amazing chips! So light which I prefer and not too greasy. Now to the tacos, for one I loved the house made corn tortillas. It is very light, not too heavy which I think balances the overall taco! My favorites were the carnitas and mommie dearest. Carnitas tasted so fresh and had the most flavor but it is also a different concept compared to the other tacos. Mommie dearest is more heavy savory breastfast taco which is why their homade corn tortillas goes so well with them! If you are looking for breakfast/brunch and something savory to eat, definitely check this place out! Everyone is very friendly and I love how open the restaurant is. read more

Fresh, flavorful and delicious! We tried all the tacos last week and we were blown away with how awesome they were. We planned all week to go back today and try some other offerings. My wife devoured the "ChoriPap" torta before I could take a photo. I got the breakfast taco bowl with green chicken chorizo and it was so fresh and filling. The beans on the side were outstanding! When I first moved to the area (2021) I went here a few times and really enjoyed it. The last time or two that I went, I felt the quality was not where it used to be, especially at their price point. Portions were smaller, food was too greasy, and it wasn't worth spending $25/person for a meal that didn't fill you up. I walk by this business at least 5 times a week, and regrettably waited until today to try it. Basalt definitely lives up to the modern Tex-Mex. Feeling indecisive, I opted for the breakfast bowl with green chorizo and added mushrooms. Added a side of corn tortillas to build my own tacos, they were *chefs kiss* All the ingredients were delicious, fresh, and full of flavor! Couldn't ask for more. I'm always skeptical of the Mexican restaurants in GR (after living in Texas and California) but this one really hits the mark. I felt like I was back in Austin basking in all of its taco glory. Let me start off by saying what a gem this place is! I found myself in GR this morning and wanted to grab some breakfast and came across a Tex-Mex comfort food spot. As soon as I saw "Tex-Mex" I was like sign me up! I have family from Houston, Texas and any time I visit them we always have breakfast tacos and every time I come back home to Michigan I long for that same breakfast taco experience but to no avail. Shockingly terrible. The tortillas are thin and greasy; the tamales were not even as close to as good as store bought, which is saying something because I full on reject store bought tamales. The chorizo potato taco was oddly...sweet? And the BYO we ordered (bacon, egg, and hash browns) had to be recooked on our stovetop because the bacon was raw. Everything was exceedingly greasy. We stopped by Basalt over the weekend and I can't believe we didn't come here sooner! It was a mid-morning on a Saturday when walked in and there was only one other table there at the time. We were quickly seated and informed that they did all of their menus, ordered, etc. via QR codes. This really allowed us to take our time looking at the menu and ordering without feeling like we were rushed or wasting someone's time coming back and forth to check on us. And honestly with it not being too busy, it made the entire experience just more relaxing and enjoyable. We both ordered some Taco Plates (good deal tbh) with hash browns and a variety of Breakfast Tacos. Everything was absolutely delicious!!! I'd had a delicious breakfast burrito from the farmer's market and we had their food catered at work last week, so I finally decided it was time to visit. My friend and I both got the Migas - I did Chorizo and added queso. Hot damn. The tortillas pieces were still crispy & the hashbrowns crunched up added the rest of the crunch I was looking for. Brought the Stella home for my boyfriend and tried a bite - also delicious. I'm going to be coming up with excuses to grab takeout every time I'm in the area. Literalky kicked out today for looking at a book near our table. The owner Steve, if that's his real name, is cruel and disrespectful of customers. Modifications are not allowed. We used to go every Sunday. No waiting area so we stood by the door to wait for our table and he yelled at us to move. When we calmly shared our frustrations with his behavior he canceled our meals and kicked us out! We were shocked! His behavior is irrational and cruel. He embarrassed us for no good reason. Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. He has zero concern or respect for customers. I feel bad for the two good waiters, the woman and the gentleman with red hair. Owner lied directly to our faces as he talked over us to cover up the poor way he treated us mutiple times we came in as regular customers. Don't trust he word he says. I think this place caters to more of the take out approach, with a dine in option. First you walk in and YOU select your table, which is fine. Then, you must download their order app and order everything yourself on it ( hopefully) you get it right. You also have to give an email and credit card info. This creates a tab and then and only then someone appears from behind the scenes to give you your food. Then, if you have the audacity to ask for a fork, the server will announce out loud in front of everyone "You need a fork for your taco?" Yes, I do! Never did he come over and ask if our food was to our satisfaction My husband got the breakfast burrito with chorizo and it had such a distinct Cinnamon or Nutmeg spice, that was all you could taste. I will admit their pico de gallo was good, but the chips were mediocre at best. I had a pork taco that had too much of a tomato base. Oh yes, one more thing, the coffee is right next to the "free" water, but there is a charge for it with no sign saying that. I gave it two stars for being very clean.
