There are 2 places to park: one by the welcome center and one by the restaurant /trustees table. It seemed if you had brunch reservations you parked by the restaurant side. Accessibility wise: they have a lot of accommodations but it's not perfect. There's a big-ish hill from parking to the restaurant, but the rest was mostly flat with tiny gravel and white chalky dust. People do dress from play wear to nice, but I'd recommend shoes you are okay with getting dusty. The farm part: There are pony rides: $5 extra per ride. My kids loved this and it was worth it. A craft area also (these were set up in front of the trustees table). Coordinated games were a little farther up. The farm is past the restaurant and they had: 2 sheep / lamb stations, goats and kids, 2 Clydesdales, a mom cow and calf, 2 pigs, turkeys/ducks/roosters, baby ducks, baby chicks. They had story telling, lamb shearing. Face paint for $10. A seed and plant thing we didn't explore. Some play areas. And of course all the grounds! It was really great! Our toddler and baby loved it! Our toddler can't sit still for stories and demos yet, but was thrilled with the animal variety and experiences. Note: there is a big sand pit we strategically avoided, but I'd imagine your kids would get dirtier in there. I was worried how much time it would take us, I'd say about an hour. I think if you're wanting to do stories and demos maybe closer to an hour and a half to 2 hours. The total event is 4 hours. This is just a note for anyone planning breakfast before, during, or after. Brunch with babies: I think the value was good. It was a buffet with: bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, gravy, grits, cooked apples, waffles, and cereal. They delivered 1 biscuit and pumpkin muffin per person with butter and jam to the table. There were people scooping, but I assume you could get more. The grits and sausage were so good. I don't even normally like sausage. The biscuit and jam were so good too. All the food was delicious. I saw someone trash talk the breakfast buffet in an another review, but every bite I ate was good. I just came back from Disney, this was above the standard breakfast buffet in quality. IF you are wanting a relaxing, DINKS or retired experience, I'd look at the calendar before booking. Some of the adults seemed overwhelmed by kids near them, and on this date, the restaurant was FULL with kids.

I asked for second set of sheets and those were also dirty. The wallpaper is peeling everywhere. The elevator was visible dirty and smell of dog pee. The second thing after about 10 minutes I noticed that my card was charged twice for the same amount of $280. I called the front desk and she said she will check with management. She then told me that if I contact my bank she can work with them to take it off. What happened is when I arrived she said the card wasn't working. She ran it several times and charged me twice. I had to contact my bank and they removed the duplicate charge. The fun begins because now every dick and harry rolling through the lobby we heard the noise. People intoxicated all hours of the night and we heard it. It was very loud near our room. The one thing that was good was the breakfast the first day. The second day not so much. When we arrived they had no plate or forks. Finally had plates but nothing to eat with. I'm not sure if they were use to this many people at the hotel at a single time. The rooms were clean, but the shower was a bit off and the toilet didn't work the best.

We got to stay in the renovated Philemon Waters Cabin of 1815 this time around. Despite the oppressive heat/humidity the modernization's to the cabin, A/C, made the nights comfortable. The common area of the cabin has an activity corner for lack of proper term. My daughter did utilize it during our stay. She survived quite well despite the lack of us allowing her to use any electronic device. We searched for rocks and using the provided paints, she painted them and left them in the common room for others to enjoy. The provided breakfast meal was just as hearty as it was during our first visit. The variety and quantity of food brought to the cabin in the morning was outstanding. It's nice to see more horses on property, It was also a site to see when whole herds (if that is what they are called) of deer come out of the tree line into the fields on the cloudless nights. On multiple nights we had to see them numbered at least in the 35-45 range. The owners have been able to make some improvements to sections of the grave road/drive into the Farm, but one still knows that you will definitely disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of daily life traveling up to the property. The owners are continuing to do a fantastic job! Now I would like to go there during the Spring time now that I have seen the Fall and Summer times on the Farm. Only this time I hope to not wait another 3 years!

But if you…read morewant a weekend away from it all in some of the most beautiful land above the Kentucky River palisades you don't have to wait for them to complete their work. There are currently two places to stay - the Philemon Waters Cabin is a renovated large old log cabin with room for 5-8 depending on whether you are willing to share a double bed. This very old cabin has two bathrooms with all needed conveniences including plush towels and toiletries. There is a massive working fireplace in the cabin and Matt laid the fire for us twice so we could have warmth and a cozy ambience when we wanted to sit by a fire and talk. Another option is the Colonial Cottage newer and with a kitchen/dining, sitting room and upstairs bedroom (queen bed, I believe). There are plans for rooms to be available in the main farm house. Canaan Land Farm is closed during the winter months. The long road down to the farm is fine for a sedan or SUV; a sports car or motorcycle would find it more of a challenge. There are several horses on the property and they share a big field behind the Colonial Cottage. There are mowed paths through fields above the river (you can't make it down to the river, however). The bed I slept in (Colonial Cottage) was comfortable, with good pillows and the towels are plush. The breakfast was generous - eggs, bacon, toast or rolls, fruit, yogurt, coffee and tea. I stayed in the Colonial Cottage on an early fall, cool rainy weekend and found the electric heaters adequate for maintaining a comfortable temperature. Several friends and I were at Canaan Land farm for a reunion. Two of them and I had arranged to share two rooms and a bath in the main house. However the rooms were not ready for use (painting and ?) so I was upgraded to the Colonial Cottage with no additional charge and my friends doubled up in the cabin and Kari and Matt adjusted their charge to the additional person charge which seemed fair. This would be a good place for a getaway for a spring color weekend or full bloom spring weekend. It is definitely not a chain luxury hotel accommodation, but for those who want quiet and tranquility it is a good fit.

The hotel name is actually Home Place Inn, and there is not a lit sign in front of the hotel. It is not been a Super Eight for least six years. The reception area is fairly small. The check-in lady was very pleasant and explained the usual things. The breakfast area is in the small lobby, so I imagine many people carry their food to their rooms which inevitably leads to some spills on the stairwell and on the room carpeting. The hotel itself is about 30 years old, but many of the rooms, but not all, have been refurbished. My bathroom appeared to be a few years old, but much better than expected from the new tub, fresh paint job on the walls, and a new hairdryer on the wall. The linens are clean and in good shape, but the bedspread left a little to be desired. The hotel was mostly full this Friday night, and it was quiet. The rooms were not soundproof. The building was in very good shape with entrances only through either end of the hotel and the main lobby via keyed entrances. The breakfast itself was disappointing. There is really nothing besides coffee and some bagels - no juice, no cereal, no donuts, no fruit. No frills, but walking distance from shopping and places to get some food. There is a mixture of smoking and non-smoking rooms, so there is a slight smoke smell in the hallways. A place to rest for low cost, nothing more.
