A small Sainsbury's store, located inside Frenchgate in Doncaster town centre, I was disappointed…read morewith this store overall as not only was I unable to get the products I was looking for but due to being located inside the shopping centre, the opening hours are heavily reduced, for example, they close at 7 pm during the week, I, therefore, think moving the store to a larger unit elsewhere in Doncaster town centre would be a much better idea going forward. The staff in the store seemed friendly and polite, especially because they seemed to be dealing with many customers looking for products which were "out of stock", I noticed one staff member be asked from three different customers and have to turn them away, which was a shame. They do have Smartshop which is helpful, as it allows you to scan your shopping as you walk around the store, using a mobile device, bagging the items as you go. 2* - The store was clean and the staff are friendly, but due to limited stock and opening hours, it wouldn't be a store I would return to. I much prefer Marks and Spencer nearby.

The instore layout is a bit cramped and the decor is very old fashioned - 1980s would be my guess. There isn't (unless I've missed it) direct access to the car park so you've got a bit of a trek with your bags of groceries back to the car. It is, however, really handy for the bus and train stations if you're using public transport. I suspect that this store will undergo some sort of refurb soon, as I just don't see how it can pay the way it is at the moment. I am a big fan of Sainsbury's but this one - while it serves a purpose - just isn't up to scratch I'm afraid.

I like the value range - not everything is delicious but with a bit of trial and error it is possible to make some serious savings from your regular brands. The clothes are good too and low prices, as are the DVDs, books, CDs and beauty products. Honestly you could do your full xmas shop here including the gifts and wrap!! I love this branch of Asda in Barnsley and I will keep shopping here.

The…read morelayout is bizarre (I'm a Morrisons girl usually, and theirs makes sense), with clothes right next to fresh fruit and vegetables. And I don't like how the vegetables are stored in those big green boxes. It's tricksy. I went there today because I was at the Homebase next door, and was really disappointed because all I wanted was some Golden Syrup Oats So Simple, and they had sold out! The whole cereal aisle looked like a tornado had hit it. The guy at the checkout was either on day release or a bit of a stoner (will I get in trouble for saying that? Hope not). Really slow, half asleep, and even though I'd put a 'bag for life' on top of all my shopping so he could scan it through first and then I could actually pack my shopping, he decided to move it to the back of my shopping instead. He then looked at me like I was a bit mental and said in a really pitying tone 'do you need some bags then?'. No thanks Mr Stoner, I would like the bag I just gave you please. That would be awesome.

It's a good store, nothing particularly special but the staff all seem to be fairly helpful, particularly if you have young children with you, they seem to understand the pressure you can sometimes be under. The clothing section is fab, especially for children, although there is about 80% girls clothes, 20% boys, but that's always the way. Their prices are really great, especially as my little one seems to go into the next size week by week. The fish counter is lovely and the fish monger with the white beard is very helpful, although they're all ok. The cafe upstairs is nice but you need to use the lift to get up there and when it's out of order and you have your buggy with you and your shopping and you just want to go for a wee or change your baby it's a bit of a trek with an assistant to use the staff utility lift, but they do let you. The worst thing about the store is the horrendous parking, as with all sainsbury's everywhere in my experience. The spaces are far too narrow, as are the roadways between the parking, makes reversing (which I am good at before you ask) very tight, brilliant when you've got a wriggling baby to distract you as well. Handy having homebase next door too, it's walkable if you don't have to carry too much back to the car.

Morrisons in Ecclesfield on the outskirts of Sheffield is in a prime location for anyone leaving…read morethe motorway. The parking is adequate for the size of the store and there is a petrol station on site although there are always queues for the pumps. The staff do seem to lack in customer skills and you will find that you will regularly have to wait for them to finish their conversations in groups of two or three before someone will serve the waiting customers. Choice at the store is very good and there are always bargains in abundance. This is something Morrisons need to focus on as they do not offer online shopping and therefore need to step up the game as far as attracting customers is concerned.

I'd recommend you try Asda's fresh fish - their trout stuffed with spinach and gruyere is gorgeous (30 mins in a moderate oven). Back to access - the small roundabout and the road up to Sandal can cause more congestion but Wakefield Council recently turned down Asda's request to alter the road layout so thwy're not to blame.

Granted, it's a Tesco petrol station shop, but when you get down to it the place isn't actually much bigger than your average Shell store. And yet, I manage to come away from there feeling a little annoyed that they didn't have the particular kind of sliced fresh bread I was after. That is, surely, a testament to how well stocked the place is. It has fresh baked goods, veg, snacks, a strong range of chilled (tasty!) ready meals and meats, magazines and newspapers, a freezer section and a decent amount of dry and canned goods. Yes, I said fresh baked goods. Yes, a petrol station with fresh brownies! Basically, there's enough there to fool you into thinking you're in a proper (if very compact) supermarket, which is no bad thing. In terms of petrol, the pricing is fair while the number of pumps ensures that you rarely have to wait more than a minute or two to fill up. All in all, I'm very glad Tesco Express is in easy reach of my house.

Which means I now play secret game I like to call 'Let's make the Tesco person smile today!' but I haven't won it yet. One of them yawned at me on Friday, which was nice. Inside it is a typical Sainsbury's, albeit a little old fashioned and in a way their is so much empty space, especially at the self-service and manned checkouts, where there is so much space wasted, so the range could be much improved. There was a decent yet small selection of most things, so if you are looking for some essentials odds are you probably are going to have to settle, for example you might not be able to get your favorite flavor or brand of crisps, drinks or chocolate bar for example. The staff didn't seem too helpful, they did come to the checkout when I needed them to approve my transaction, the checkouts could have been kept tidier, to keep rubbish such as receipts away, rather than cluttering the space. Overall, this is a decent place to call in while in Leeds center looking for essentials, but could be much improved and without a huge amount of similar competition nearby, it doesn't seem to be eager to compete, with the nearest alternative supermarket being a large Morrisons store which is a place to do your weekly shop, rather than call in to get essentials, which works out a hassle in a way, while comparing this store and considering its' location I feel two stars is fair.

It's a rarity when you prefer the home brand stuff to the actual branded products. And for me the Sainsbury's brand seems to do this rather nicely, especially the Taste the Difference range...can anyone say quad chocolate cookies? yum!! The central location makes it nice and easy for those folk out there who don't and can't drive to access all their groceries and get on to public transport route home, without too much hassle. Technically it's a supermarket, but to me it's more the size of a large Sainsbury's Local. That's not to say there isn't plenty of good ole Sainsbury's merch going on in there. There's even a coffee baked pastries section, along with the cigarette and newspaper kiosk, fresh meats and breads/bakery, crisps, chocolate, food in jars aisles too. But my new favourite novelty has to be the self serving tills. They still excite me. But aside from being super fun, they're incredibly practical, as the queues often get quite large in here, but they don't last too long due to the many self checkouts. The only thing I can find fault with this Sainsbury's is that the staff always seem harrassed, and maybe they are, but suck it up dudes, put a smile on your face, they always look shocked or put out when you ask them where something is, and there's a look of 'how am I supposed to know' about their chops. Aside from that little blip, it's grand.
