Additionally they're not particularly great when it comes to stocking organic and fair-trade food products (not verygood in this day and age). I have noticed that I have plenty of offers on in store, especially when it comes to branded goods such as Pringles, Coca Cola, Penguins etc... making them much better value than in other supermarkets. As you've probably noticed from my list however, they really only generally have offers on junk food (no wonder we're all getting obese). I do come here though, quite regularly when I'm after DVDs, video games and electronic goods, which in my experience are often cheaper than even Amazon.com. So that's something too really bear in mind.

But for the bulky thing ASDA is just the job. Yesterday we bought toilet rolls, cat food, washing and cleaning stuff and a stock of shampoo that should last until 2012. The clothing department seems to have lost the plot in the last few years. There used to be nice things and now we wonder who exactly wears this stuff. The home department is very cheap and good for replacing broken dishes and worn-out pans. Don't ever buy the 'Smart-Price' pans, they last about 11 seconds before losing all their coating and going rusty.

I'm usually disappointed by the cards in supermarkets, although it's usually the place I am when I remember that I need to get one and it's too late to go anywhere else. This is the situation I found myself in today, and readied myself to buy a boring card that's the same as you see everywhere else and will probably be the same as another card on the mantelpiece of my friend whose birthday it was. In my previous visits to Sainsbury's (and I do go there a few times a week) I had noticed the card section at the front of the store and assumed that it was pretty small, but I was surprised to find that there was rather a large selection to choose from. And they weren't all just your standard Hallmark cards either; they had lines that I'd never seen anywhere else and were really lovely. As well as the birthday card I needed, I found loads of blank cards with gorgeous pictures that I bought just because I liked them, and I ended up spending around £8 in total, which I think is rather a lot to spend on cards. This was not because they were expensive either, with most standard size cards costing around £1.50. So next time you need to buy someone a card, do not underestimate Sainsbury's! (Oh, and on a slightly different subject, this Sainsbury's petrol station is also the only place I know of where you can pump your tyres up for free. Thank-you, Sainsbury's)

This Sainsburys supermarket is big, but is by no means as intimidating as Tesco Extra can be (if you go with friends you can very easily loose them in Tesco's). They have a great selection of food at all prices available, and I particularly like Indian and Chinese ready meal selection. They also have a fresh fish and meat, delicatessen, and bakery counters, all manned by really lovely staff. Finally I'd also recommend checking out their DVD selection as prices are rather cheap, I managed to buy New Moon the week it came for only £7.99 (so I can now swoon at Robert Pattison to my hearts content).

It has cheap clothes, cheap DVD's and cheap food. There's not much I need that Asda doesn't sell really. 2. Its Quiet. I can't tell you that there won't be any queues at Christmas but pretty much everytime I go there I have a nice relaxing shopping experience which is mighty hard to come by these days. 3. It full of Singles!! I'm not one for trying to get a date over the fruit and veg aisle but I did appreciate going here back in my singleton days because I didn't feel like the only loner in the world and it made shopping that little bit more enjoyable.

Generally what supermarkets do is under sell their media products in order for you to spend more money on other things in the shop, great when you only go in there to buy the films then. It's part of a small cluster of retail outlets (Halifax bank & estate agent, hairdresser and a pizza home delivery place), which is convenient, however, the main problem is that there's very little parking in the car park (about 20 spaces) and you're very lucky if you find somewhere whatever the time of day, as it's not enough. That said, the Tesco has a Post Office inside it, so it is a very useful place to stop and kill 2 birds with one stone. The shop stock most everyday items that you tend to run out of, just a fraction above the normal Tesco superstore price.

The supermarket is so big that they have built a whole 'town centre', which incorporates various stand-alone shops including Carphone Warehouse, O2, a hairdressers, a Shoe Zone, and food stores including KFC, Greggs and a Costa Coffee. Each of the stand-alone stores is relatively small and totally dwarfed by the Tesco itself, which has to be the biggest I've ever seen. It's split across two floors and will sell you everything from Dulux paint to halloween masks to iPods to dishwashers to hardback books to ready-roasted chickens to photo albums. The aisle arrangement is a bit disorientating at first, and certain items are now where you might normally have expected them to be- the fruit & veg isn't at the front of the store, the bread is tucked away in one corner. Some of the aisles don't line up which I think is a design flaw as it means there isn't one obvious path around the store, resulting in lots of colliding trolleys in busy periods. Unlike some people I have nothing against Tesco and it's going to be convenient for people in Bradley Stoke to have so much readily available to buy there. It isn't always the cheapest supermarket for all items but it's very competitive and does the job.

I duly obliged . The he asked if he could look in my bag , There was a half drunk bottle of water in my bag, he asked "have you paid for that?" I had to think for a moment as I wasn't sure if I had picked it up in your store. It was a very hot day and I normally carry a bottle of water in my bag; I remember taking one from my car earlier, but I wasn't sure if that was the same bottle. So apologised and said that I must have absent mindedly put it in my bag after drinking some in the store. I offered to pay, still not sure wheather it was my bottle or yours. The Store Detective then said to me "you have done this before with some clothing, the security guard recognised you as he stopped you last time". I was absolutely dumbfounded! I have never ever been stopped by any security guard in your store, 'or any store for that matter.' I responded that "this is mistaken identity as I have never been stopped in this store before; I requested to see the CCTV footage, but was refused . The Store Detective said he would get the security guard out to ID me which he did; I told him that he was mistaken and requested once again to see the Cctv footage. I was refused and told I would have to ask the police . I responded well call the police. Then the store detective told me not to raise my voice (well excuse me, I am 62yrs of age and have never encountered this in my life. I have video footage and so does your store. I would like to request the CCTV footage of who the security guard thinks that I am regarding the clothing. If this CCTV footage is not available I require a sworn statement from the security guard regarding this event as this is slander and defamation of my character. I also request to see the CCTV footage of the water incident. Kind Regards

You have to commute, there's nowhere around for an after work drink and getting a decent lunch is near impossible. Which is why I'm oh so grateful to Sainsbury's in East Filton. This large supermarket was a mecca for office workers for miles around. With shelves filled with fresh sandwiches, a fully stocked salad bar and fast cashiers it's always easy to get a quick, tasty lunch here. But the reason that this Sainsbury's will always stick in my mind is the tasters it does on a daily basis. Not to make myself sound too cheap, but I always looked forward to my lunch time trip to Sainsbury's with my colleagues for a free shot of wine, a taste of local cheddar and a bite of chocolate cake - perfect for those on a budget! There's also an on-site cafe, great for breakfast "meetings", petrol station and free car parking. If all Sainsbury's were like this - I'd never shop anywhere else!
