The teachers were disorganized, seemed overwhelmed and generally seemed like did not take the time and patience to work with my child and ensure maximum care, comfort etc. Which was crazy - 1 teacher tried her best to help ( forget her name now) but understandably she had other kids to watch. My child was never settled there so we all decided it was best to part ways :( The classes with older kids seemed like fun and the kids there seemed to have a great time.

Now, I make use of their 2nd floor indoor track and weight-lifting machines for cardio and strength training. They have treadmills, elliptical, and free weights too if that's what you're into. Clean surroundings, friendly staff, and good locker space just add to making this YMCA one of the best I've seen. The only reason it's not 5-star is because of how full it can get during busy times.

It is not the members' fault that the Y went into the red (blowing all its money to subsidize childcare) and poor leadership that services to members are constantly declining. Even after the Downtown Y failed, I remained a member (and paid during the Pandemic) in hopes that promises made would actually be fulfilled. As one of hundreds of former Y members that cancelled and moved memberships elsewhere, I sincerely hope things one day change with the leadership and culture of that enterprise. Joplin deserves so much better.

I took my child out of class for weeks, and often only took them a few days during a week when I had family help. We had no problems at home with the behavior. When they got to the room they went to survival mode. Four toddlers on the stairs no one monitoring caused pushing, falls, bites, and scratches. At reading time the children would sit almost on top of each other and the caregiver which would cause more fighting. I got regular pictures and updates through out the day in all the other classes and video showed children being monitored on the stairs and being taught how to sit in a group without tackling their neighbors to get to the front. They weren't swinging toy's around and hitting the others in the face or knocking each other down in the previous room. I paid a premium amount and feel that I couldn't continue to put my child through this. To be fair the previous rooms caregivers we're great.
