I've been going here for several years and the barber that I'm a regular with does a great job on me and my oldest son. She takes her time, makes sure she cuts everything evenly and cleanly. She even gives me a light head, neck, and shoulder massage and I can't tell you how many times I've fallen asleep in the chair. She is the only reason I keep going back here and the only reason they deserve a 3 star rating. She deserves a 5 star alone. Some of the other barbers have a very hard time listening, or there is a language barrier, when you tell them what needs to be done. One barber cut over half of my son's hair off when I only asked for a touch up on him. That infuriated me, especially when the barber couldn't talk to me and had to turn to the woman next to him and he started speaking to her in Korean. I have a hard time getting a good cut for my 6 year old. I'm not sure why, but I always have to point out the same area for the barbers there to fix on him. If I can see it, why can't the trained barber see it? Also, if you go in and say that you're going to wait on one barber, you'll get in the seat faster without an appointment, no matter how many people are waiting. That's frustrating! They really need to either start taking appointments or each person has to go in order from the time they arrived (by the number ticket they pulled). read more

Patronizing this place is a bit like getting your hair cut in a massive, efficient assembly line of a warehouse. From taking a number when you walk in, to the bevy of bodies scurrying around the shop, to the no nonsense lack of conversation between you and your barber during the 10 minutes you're in his chair. My problem with that is I've come to not only appreciate, but enjoy, the straight razor and hot towel places like Dulles Barber have. I mean there's nothing wrong with Ashburn Barber Shop, but if I can get a more relaxing and personal experience for the same money, I will. read more

I loathe this place. The only time I have ever felt the need for negative stars. I had the worst experience. I came in as the EASIEST customer today, I walked in wanting a buzz and straight razor shave. For the last few months I have just plain buzzed my own hair with my own electric clippers using a 1/2 guard. My hair has grown out to about 2 inches and I had a banquet to attend to in the evening. I didn't have a friend to touch up any missing spots on my head so I went to this barber. First off it took a while to communicate to her that I only wanted a 1/2 guard put on. Looks like she didn't even have a 1/2 guard, fine use a 1. The second her electric clippers touched my hair they did a jam and caused a rough cut. Wow this place doesn't even sharpen their clippers?! I could not believe this. Secondly the haircut took about 10 minutes. 10 minutes to shave off my head. Are you kidding me?! It's like she tried to stretch out the job to make the $13 dollars worth it. Sorry but I don't think a quick buzz to my head is worth the equivalent of $78 an hour. When I first sat down I asked if she did the straight razor shave. She said "yes yes." Now at the end of my horrendous haircut I was a bit scared to go ahead with the shave. I figured if she forgot I wouldn't mention it, but if she offered I would take it. So she then asked me if I wanted my beard cleaned up (I barely qualified as a 3 o'clock shadow). I said "oh sure". She proceeds to grab her crappy electric norelco razor and just skim over my chin. It was one of the most awkward moments I have ever experienced. Here I am sitting in a barber chair with a lady going over my face like I am too lazy/couldn't do that on my own. She didn't even get all of the spots. I am just completely livid with this place and don't know how they operate at all. Do not come here. read more

I have been coming here for about a year now. They are pretty good in my book. My haircut is pretty basic, yet many other places around here have managed to screw it up. I've yet to have a truly bad cut here. It's not always perfect, but for $13, I will take that. I was worried a while back that I would have to go to some $50 a cut place to have them run a #3 guard around my head and snip some hair off the top without butchering my head. Not to mention they have a lot of chairs, so even when the place is busy, the wait time is short. I think I have had to wait only once, and it was for about 5 minutes. I don't think I would come here for a complicated hair style, as their experience seems to center around "high and tight". In fact, the only complaint I often have with a cut is that it is a bit too much of a "high and tight" than I prefer. This kind of mistake is much easier to deal with than some of the disasters I have encountered at other Northern VA shops. Plus, they take a single blade razor to the back of your neck, which allows me to go an extra week between hair cuts. I used to have to head back early just to have my neck touched up. read more

I was a little apprehensive when I first walked up to this barber shop and saw how many customers were waiting. I normally go to a different shop, but was out shopping with a friend and he normally goes here, so I decided to give it a try. My friend loves this place because he said they always have all 12 chairs going. So even though there were a lot of people waiting in line, the line moved quick. I got a very good haircut, and they do the shaving cream and straight razor on the back of your neck. I was very pleased with the quality of the haircut, and it was cheaper than the place I normally go. read more

I was very impressed with my haircut. My barber was David, he's the guy with the ponytail and he was outstanding -- detailed, efficient, and did exactly what I asked for. I've been going to a barber in Centerville for 10+ years (American barbershop) and I used to think she was great... but David easily trumped her cutting style and gave me an even better cut! I'm really glad I listened to my neighbor and went here. This place is very popular and yes it is worth the wait (sometimes up to 20 minutes long). read more

Kevin Lee has magic hands! I got recommended this place on a local site. My 6 year old son's hair was getting craycray (is that word still cool to use?) so we needed someone to tame it. Here enters Kevin and his magic hands. My son was nervous. Who knows why. He is nervous to get his fingernails cut. Kevin was in for it. My son announced to the entire store that he was nervous and Kevin took it like a champ. He put my son at ease. He joked with him, and most importantly- he gave him a hair cut that you can only find in one of those celeb magazines! Who dat!? Oh snap! That is my used-to-be-craycray-hair son! He did a GREAT job and works great with kids. I have been going to AVBS for about 4 years. While the majority of the barbers are women, the other stat is that its almost 100% Korean. At one time they did have a Vietnamese guy but he is gone now. They replaced him with a token latino guy. I love the place. There are few of the barbers that are better than others (Peter for instance) and language can still be an issue trying to explain exactly how you want your hair cut. High and tight is easy...They still shave your neck and some of the Korean ladies if they like you (I think that's a criteria) will give you a scalp massage. Prices are OK, (still I think a little steep but they are in a hi-rent district). Its located in the Ashburn Village Shopping Center off of Ashburn Village Parkway. read more

I absolutely loved this place. From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted by almost all the barbers in there. There are a ton by the way. Probably about 10+ working at all times. You are then summoned by a free barber to come sit down. I'm sure you can choose your barber by setting up an appointment, but if your like me and dont really care who cuts your hair then this is a quick and nice way. They quickly ask you what you would like done and get to work. The barber's dont force conversation which is very nice and different from other barber's in the area since they dont speak much English. The only negative I can say is that they dont allow you to look at what your hair is looking like until the end. Price is very modest as well. I will definitely be taking the 10 minute commute from Leesburg to Ashburn to get my hair done here in the future. read more

I took my 10-year-old here for haircuts for the both of us. I thought the price was just a bit high, but I also thought the haircuts were spot-on, exactly what we asked for. The atmosphere is great, and there's a place for the kids to color and play, and a ton of barber chairs. We had almost no wait for two chairs. Both folks cutting our hair were very professional and the one gal was very patient with my son. I've recently moved here, and so far I'd say it's the best out of two barber shops that I've visited in Ashburn. read more

O how I LOVED this place!! I am of very few African Americans that frequent this barber shop and i would consider myself a "regular"(I visit once every 7 - 10 days) and I've been a client of David's for the past year. UNFORTUNATELY due to new management, David is no longer cutting there & I am at a total loss as to what to do OR where to go. When I asked the staff if they had any information on his new location OR if they could give me his card or anything so that I can contact him, they all became frustrated with the fact that I had the audacity to ask such a question. The shop was/is run very much like a finely tuned assembly line, which I loved! They maintained a very clean shop and a somewhat consistent atmosphere (no extra chatting, no extra pleasantries except a lollipop if you so desire). Until now, I've never had an unpleasant thing to say about this barbershop NOR my favorite barber. In my opinion, mohawks are very easy to cut (as in if i could see the back of my head better, I'd cut my own). I initially went there out of convenience, but then I had the pleasure of having David cut my hair & I had never received so many compliments. Recently (July 28) I was very surprised to see that David was no longer there. Had they all not had a confused expression on their faces when I first visited the shop, I would've gladly given someone else the opportunity to cut my hair, but my dear David was the only one bold enough to even try, and what a success he was. I've been going to Ashburn Barber Shop for about 2 years now. My hair is not complicated thus they get it right every time. I too like the straight razor cut that they provide. They always seem to have about 10 or more chairs going at any given time, rarely much of a wait if any at all. Staff seems pretty consistent, low turnover. There seems to be a core of maybe 5-6 that have a good customer following. They aren't chatty, thats for sure -- but I prefer vegitate when I'm getting my cut so I'm ok with the silence. The boys in my family have frequented this place a few times. Although, there are pretty much the same folks in there cutting hair, some are better than others. Once in the chair, the cut seems to take a LONG time. Some reviews say 10 minutes...I tend to think longer. Once finished, hair is everywhere! I am not talking simply on the floor, I am speaking about what is left on my husband or boys...in the ears, on the face, down the shirt...you name the area of the bod and hair is there! This place knows how to do military cuts. They understand a high and tight means that it fades to meet regulations. It is crowded but it is worth it. Hubby sometimes will fall asleep in the chair because they are so meticulous with make sure they are meeting the guidelines. read more

Good but not great. Losing Sunny was a strike against for me. Since she has left the quality has gone down a bit. David is good and the ladies at the front in the two first chairs are good. I can't speak for the rest of them but the few that I've have over the years are not the greatest. I have been going to the Ashburn Village Barber Shop for about 10 years. Almost all the barbers are Korean, as is the owner, and some have difficulty communicating in English. I think Chong is the best barber and she also speaks excellent English. Mahmet is also a very good barber and speaks English well. The have been other good barbers here over the years, but whenever the owner gets mad at one of them they have to leave. Unfortunately, if a customer asks one of the other barbers about someone who left they can't tell them where they went. If they did and the owner found out they would be fired. The owner makes them say he or she is on "vacation". I have it on good authority that David, who was a very popular barber here, now works at the Hair Cuttery in the same shopping plaza. read more

This place is often crowded, but you take a number & get served in turn. You can request a specific stylist, but my husband & son have been happy with most of the stylists. Actually some are Korean Americans, other Chinese Americans and one outstanding gentleman, Metmet, is a Turkish American. Metmet is probably one of the best barbers in the area who always is professional, gives you a first class haircut and always greets his customers with a smile. I just left here. I had brought my 2 sons, ages 10 and 13. My 13 yr old son was able to get his hair cut, but I heard 3 other barbers saying they didn't want to cut child's hair...meaning my 10 year old. So, I left very angry and with 1 haircut.
