We requested a full vegan menu with 4 courses and passed appetizers during cocktail hour for 30 people. And wow did they deliver! I am having guests ask me for their recipes and some saying they would consider going vegan if all their meals tasted like this. Our main goal was to serve vegan food to meat eaters and have them not miss the meat. My husband and I could not be more pleased with the way the food turned out. It was a complete success. The service is unmatched. Judy took care of everything and helped with the details that I never would've thought of. I've never planned a wedding before, so it was SO helpful to have her ask more questions ahead of time in order to make sure everything went smoothly. I loved her communication, cheerfulness, and genuine love for what she does. Their serving staff was friendly, helpful, and had a sense of urgency when they were asked for anything. They were engaged in what they were doing and they seemed happy to be serving us. There isn't a thing I would change about the way Chef Michael's Catering handled our wedding reception. They truly contributed a large part to the happiest night of our lives and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to work with them.

However, we were a bit disappointed that when it came time for us to exchange rings during our 10 minute ceremony, Hannah did not know our names, or have them written down. She had to ask each of us what our names were mid-ceremony. We are pretty lighthearted people so we laughed it off and didn't make a huge deal out of it at the time. Then, when the short ceremony was over and she went to announce us as Mr. & Mrs......she did not know our last name and again had to interrupt the ceremony to ask us. We totally understand that mistakes happen and we aren't all bent out of shape about it but for $250 for such a short ceremony I feel knowing our names during the ceremony should be priority #1. UPDATE - I had given Hannah a generous 3 star review on a wedding vendor review site. Unfortunately she responded in a way that seemed to cast the blame on myself and my wife for her not knowing our names. From her response: "I did approach you prior to the ceremony to introduce myself and see if you had any last minute questions or concerns. You were not interested in speaking with me and walked off. Possibly a short conversation would have made your name more prominent in my mind." This quote is mind-boggling and its down right shameful . I guess its our fault that we didn't ask you if you remember our names after you accepted our $250 payment for 10 minutes of work. I stood and spoke with you for at least five to ten minutes at the altar prior to the ceremony. The fact that you are blaming us for your lack of professionalism is pathetic.

The natural beauty on top of a mountain is inspiring. In October, the fall colors are gorgeous. The actual dining area is a very fancy "pole barn" than can be open or closed. This is a memorable place for a wedding, for sure. My only real complaint is the road into the facility. The "driveway" is about a quarter mile or so. It is unpaved, very steep, and winding. You have to try and maintain some speed going up or your tires will spin and you will lose traction. It was scary. I don't even want to think what would happen if you ran into a car going the other direction, because there is no room to pass.

We spent almost a year touring preschools in Los Angeles and then almost another year getting accepted into one of the best ones, which was in extremely high demand. In Asheville, there were fewer options comparatively. We toured several schools that had been highly regarded by different friends but as soon as we went to Roots + Wings School of Art and Design and met Ginger Huebner, the founding director, we were sold. The school was not only the perfect fit for our 3 year old and our family, but after attending a semester, it easily exceeded the ridiculously hard to get into school we were excited to attend in Los Angeles. Roots + Wings is a beautiful blend of creative art driven education with just the right amount of structure, set in a truly wonderful space to learn and grow. Throughout his first semester at Roots and Wings, our son grew so much - emotionally and intellectually. By giving him a comfortable and positive space to explore art and his surroundings, he learned problem solving, interpersonal skills with other children and teachers, and became much more independent. Most importantly, he had a blast doing it all. When we picked him up from school, he was always so excited to show and tell us all the amazing things they'd done that day. The kids created incredible art projects, had animals in the classroom, played music and had plenty of outdoor time. Our teachers were incredible - it's clear that Ginger is very careful when selecting who will be working at her school. The classrooms themselves are also beautiful. Tons of natural light fill every corner, the design and choice of every element in their classroom from the furniture to the wall colors to the flooring is spot on. Roots + Wings feels like a school you'd read about in Sweden (to be fair, the décor at Roots and Wings is Scandinavian modern). Ginger beautifully conceived our end-of-semester celebration, with all the kids artwork and projects elegantly displayed and a sweet and poignant ceremony. Overall we couldn't be happier with Roots + Wings and if you're looking for a creatively stimulating environment with just the right amount of structure for your preschool aged kids, I'm sure you'll love Roots + Wings as well. She knew exactly where the best photo spots were, and made sure the focus was on us, not her officiating. We got a speeding ticket on the way, her officiant got COVID last minute, and our baby was a nightmare, but she somehow still made our day perfect by doing both the officiating and photography.
