I've learned that sometimes when you are about to review a place, read other reviews and step back…read moreand think. I was about to give it a three until I read reviews. I didn't go and visit the house, I didn't take the tours, I was about to base it on how it didn't personally fit my needs. I would have wanted to camp there and realize it wasn't for me. Now for the positive, it's a beautiful place and it has great historic value. I loved the store. The young person behind the counter was so nice and helpful. We bought a gallon of maple syrup and a smaller one for our camper. It was on sale for 10% discount. The greatest thing though is that they sell fresh meat from the farm. They have a cool place for the kids on the other side of the store. The cute parrot pictured was in the lobby.

The welcome center was pretty nice and had a small kids museum inside that was interactive. There's also a gift shop with cute merch, local items, maple syrup, and other extras. They offer tours of some of the buildings for purchase, which is a cool option if you want a deeper experience, but even just walking around the property on your own is enjoyable. Overall, a really nice place to explore for a bit.

They mess with the normal migration of fish and other wildlife. They are a scourge on the land. Take a look at "A Good Day to Die" by Jim Harrison. "If I did any good at all it might be to let a few miserable fish swim to that higher, cleaner water where they were surely meant to spawn, as surely anyway as we are meant to die or vote or drink----out our torpid days." (He's on his way to blow up a dam. My kinda guy.) Sure, they made Pleasant Hill Lake for everyone to enjoy. They now have flood control. Irrigation. And a pretty nice drive, right over the dam. Swell. What if, instead of the dam, you could put in down at the Black Fork of the Mohican, and work your way up the Clear Fork, through the Hemlock Gorge, past the covered bridge, THROUGH where the dam is now, up past Butler, all the way up? What if the whole damned un-dammed river teemed with trout? (Yeah, I know. Just like it DID for the previous million or so years.) Well, I for one would be most pleased.

So, four of us went to stay the night to see what we could find. The night was quiet until me and another team member were sitting in Bishop Brown's office off of the covered walkway and saw a man walking outside past a section of the windows: THERE was NOONE out there. We tried to reenact what we saw by having someone outside walking past the same section of window, but we couldn't. Mark that up as unexplained and could be paranormal activity. In the church across the street, we saw balls of lights flying around above us. It was so exciting. Sometimes the best things about these type of museums is not being able to explore everything you can see but also things that you can't see with the naked eye. The history of this house is amazing. The Bishop was really into voicing his thoughts about Communism. His wife sounded like a lonely soul and still is after passing. The history of this house is fascinating and definitely something everyone should witness.
