What has been helpful is that the lessons have been adapted to my needs and interests backed up by resources and support online which has been really supportive. But lessons with Richard are about much more than just guitar lessons. It has been a chance to learn about music and play with others on courses and even to have the chance to play with his blues band! The experience has been excellent and I would encourage anyone (of any age) to have a go and learn a new skill, which I promise you is a rewarding and enjoyable hobby. Let's start with the fact that his playing ability across a plethora of styles is a given. That just leaves teaching ability and depth of musical references. Or does it? With respect to musical reference points it was immediately clear that Richard knows them all. From Albert (King) to (Frank) Zappa, Rich can reel of their back story, their influences and their signature techniques. This in itself is as much an inspiration to continue learning as any hands on playing session. Teaching ability? Patience in droves, the ability to make sense of a half grasped concept and complete it, patience, effortlessly adept at presenting the same information in myriad ways until it sticks and he'll work on your lesson long after it's over and did I mention patience? That's it. No it's not. What REALLY separates Richard from those who wish they were Richard is his drive to create a community of musicians far outside the bedroom stadium that most of us play. You want to be part of a band? He's organised plenty and he'll help you too. Bit of busking at Christmas? Sign up soon because places are going fast! A gig in front of Royalty? Been done. A guitar based holiday in France...nice. Both are 6 and 8 and can be hyperactive so we really needed someone who was very patient, yet firm and imaginative inhow they taught. Grade Music Tutors were understanding of our requirements and provided a very good teacher in Ugo. Samuel in particular, is now starting to concentrate a little longer than before, and he is also enjoying learning the pieces given. Alex likes to sing as she plays the piano so I'm pleased with how things are progressing.

Rose Morris is one of the many musical instrument shops on Denmark St. It is a pretty standard shop…read moreall in all. The shop is a bit bigger than some of the others on the street, but the selection is not that great. There's plenty of guitars, but a lot of them are not at the high end of the spectrum. I guess that can be a good thing, as it is very likely that you will be able to find something affordable. Overall, there is nothing too special about this place, but there is not much to complain about either. There is a definite focus on guitars in this shop, and you won't find too much that isn't guitar related.

An older man (I believe he runs the shop) began to give me a sort-of lesson on technique, which I have really found beneficial, and I was given several FREE Grade 7 ABRSM books to improve my sight-reading! The staff were so helpful in suggesting which models to try, gave excellent advice and let me have a good long play on the possible purchases. I bought an Alhambra and it is a delight to play.
