The caprese was perfect and came out in a nice presentation on the plate. The entree also came with a salad, fries and string beans, all of which were very, very good. The dessert was also a great ending to the meal. We were also given mini cookies and creme brulees at the end of the meal, which were just as good, if not better, than the other desserts we ordered.

Since our French was very limited, I think it was the owner who came to try and explain the menu to us. I had an appetizer he suggested, unfortunately I don't remember the name, but they were little triangular fried pastries filled with a seasoned ground beef. They were delicious! For the main, I chose the couscous with beef grilled. We weren't sure what it was coming with, but was pleasantly surprised at the delicious huge ornate pot of vegetable soup that came with the couscous. The server scoops some couscous into a bowl, then pours the vegetable soup onto the couscous. Piping hot soup, I might add, which made it even better after walking out in the cold. The beef was on a skewer, and mildly seasoned which was perfect for me. The soup also was mildly seasoned, so you could really enjoy the flavors of the vegetables. The amount of soup and couscous you get could feed a small army. It was so good, and although I had more of the soup, no way could I get more couscous. Which was cooked perfectly, nice and fluffy and soft. I shall dream of this place until I can find another restaurant that serves this!

The warm chicken and the cool lettuce and carrots on the salad was a great combination. They speak english which is great and makes newbie to Belgium and to the restaurant welcomed. We were their first customers for the dinner meal. My wife's french is decent, although she has to ask people to slow down for her. Our waiter was superb, he didn't mind that we had language difficulties, and he even apologized for his poor English skills. He really made our experience world class. We decided we wanted wine tonight, but have little experience with European wines, so we definitely needed help, and asked for a white wine that was slightly sweet. He brought us out two different 30ml samples, one dryer and more grapefruitier than the other, which I liked, and Sheri enjoyed the sweeter wine, can't remember what they were though. We noticed that they had charcuterie on the Menu, but were worried that it was the cheap cheese and salami cubes we have snacked on at other restaurants here in Belgium. When asked our waiter named all 6 cheeses on the board and we recognized several of them, so we were really excited and ordered the mixed plate of meat and cheese. When our waiter brought out the charcuterie board along with a basket of fresh homemade brown bread we thought we died and went to heaven. Every delightful bite was perfection. We then ordered our dinner for the night, Sheri ordered the Orange Duck, and I ordered The Herve Burger (cheeseburger), both medium rare. At the same time, I decided that I wanted a red wine with my burger and asked what he would recommend. They have this Red Blend called "Suivi des Fees" from Brulhois France; it was superb and perfect with my burger. The Herve cheese on this burger was a Belgium earthy creamy ripe cheese that was awesome and made this a delicious unique burger. My wife loved her Orange Duck, and we traded bites of food so both could sample each other's main dish and we both really enjoyed our food. The best was that we considered our food and service to be 5-Star level fine dining; we were very pleasantly surprised that with 4 glasses of wine, charcuterie, and two main courses that our bill was only €64, in the states this meal would have cost greater than $100 U.S. We love Mons, so we definitely will be back for another scrumptious culinary experience.
