Oh gorgeous expanse of green overseeing our fine city, how you brighten my very existence! Ashton Court is grassy and tree-line and hilly - the perfect antidote to when concrete days in Bristol just get you down (it doesn't happen that often - but sometimes you just crave summat natural beneath your feet!) The parkland rolls to the edge of the river, as far down as Bower Ashton and almost touches the Suspension bridge - great for dogs (on leads near wildlife areas), kites, bikes and joggers. I was walking through a wooded glade and stumbled upon some of the park's very own family of red deer, almost glowing in the upper pasture.

If a multitude of trees aren't enough, there's a bit with lots of deer, simply prancing around, being their lovely selves.

Wow what a good carvery and a beautiful setting!…read more We were invited to Kendalshire golf club for a surprise 70th birthday meal. I'd never even heard of it so wasn't sure what to expect. Although it's a golf course, the grounds are really quite beautiful. As we entered the club house I did have a small panic as I saw a dress code pinned to the door, thankfully it was only football shirts, beach wear and sports shorts that were banned so trainers were fine! There was indoor and outdoor seating. Our table was all prepared indoors but we had some time so took our drinks outside and enjoyed watching the golfers go by as there was a green directly in front. There is also a beautiful garden to the right that my son enjoyed running around in. Now down to business, the carvery! My first thoughts were a little disappointing as there was only beef or turkey, roasters, yorkshire pud and TWO types of veg. Every other carvery I've been to has always had a massive selection. But where this carvery lacked in selection it certainly made up for in quality. The beef was cooked beautifully and slightly pink in the middle, the turkey was juicy and you got a massive yorkshire pud! The veg wasn't over cooked at all which is normally the case. So as far as carvery's go this is the best quality one I've been to. It was £11 a head and worth every penny. As for the golf I haven't got a clue!

I had a wicked time at the Pirate Pay Adventure Golf, loads of fun!…read more My Mum wanted to check this place out for a potential fun activity to do with her colleagues outside of work. We paid £7:50 per adult for the adventure golf course that took us around an hour to complete. 18 holes with nearly all being 3 par. The design looks brilliant! and really adds to the experience. I absolutely love the moving platforms that you need to pull ropes to get from one hole to the other. Everyone has been to crazy golf course where everything is worn, old and outdated. Pirate Bay is a perfect example of what crazy gold should be which is fun and innovative. Would recommend for any age and wouldn't dismiss it as just for childrens parties as I doubt anyone wouldn't enjoy this course! http://www.piratebayadventuregolf.com/Prices-Opening-Times

I love swinging a few rounds at the range on occasion!…read more It's not to expensive around 60 balls for £4 and £1.50 for club rental. They have the standard box areas where people are separated by a partition, great for plugging in the ipod and venting some frustration! They also have some open pods which are really good for an open swing. I heard they have a crazy golf type thing for the kids at a reasonable £7. Now, being a female and enjoying a bit of golf sometimes you can get some funny treatment, a 'you shouldn't be here this is a mans sport *gruff' but the lads here are really friendly and are game for a laugh which makes me go back more. They didn't even laugh when i went to hit the ball and let go of my club...what gents. It's located in hambrook but if you drive past the MOD and keep heading out towards the motorway, round the roundabout and back on yourself-its not shy off the bristol business park/ibis hotel and UWE north.

It is owned by Bristol City Council and they have struggled to invest the amount of money this mansion needs to be restored fully to its former glory. The rose garden is really lovely in summer. Last summer I went to a performance of Taming of the Shrew here in the walled garden. It was a case of bring a picnic and a blanket and chairs, sit back and enjoy the show. It was such a perfect spot for some outdoor theatre and luckily the sun gods were shining on us. There wasn't a very large crowd, so you could almost feel like you were a lord or lady of the manor sitting out in your gardens enjoying some light summer entertainment. The old stables area of the mansion has public toilets, a cafe and the stables bistro restaurant. The visitor centre is located on the ground floor and there is a lovely exhibition space on the first floor.
