There's a staffed ticket office but there are machines to buy tickets from as well. The station also has bike racks, a small car park, a coffee kiosk, waiting rooms and free WiFi via the Cloud. You can reach Milngavie centre via an underpass just outside the station. Also right outside the station is a small but pretty little square with a couple of benches - possibly a nicer place to sit in sunny weather. It's a well kept station with baskets of flowers and plants around and is apparently a grade B listed building.

As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I saw tons of rats scurrying inbetween the bricks, their tails waggling and noses twitching. I continued to stare, mesmerised. It was like looking at one of those Magic Eye pictures when you realise there has been something jumping out at you all along.

We were trying to fit 7 people into the 5-person suite and through the whole process with getting the key from reception each time we were found out (even though it was a different person at reception, so they must keep note of who the guests are when they check in). We were told the extra people could not stay so we had to find extra accommodations on a weekend in Glasgow where literally every hostel was booked. This is forgivable, because I'm sure they have lots of people trying to fit as many people into the cheap rooms in order to save money. In all other aspects, they were extremely hospitable: they allowed us to check in early and keep our luggage in the building after we checked out. It would have just been nice to know how strict they are on the room occupancy beforehand.

During my bleak few…read moremonths living in nearby Knightswood, this was one of the many distant train stations I'd hike to in order to avoid the smell of Tesco's extra strong lager and jobseeker's allowance on the bus. Perhaps surprisingly, the station is surrounded by what I could only call "aspirational" housing, including some incredibly large Victorian numbers, and is in a fairly quiet area a good bit away from the less welcoming 50s / 60s embodiment of Drumchapel. As you'd expect, several trains pass each hour and 15 minutes should see you into town.

As if there could be a bigger possible contrast, I soon noticed a group of neds horsing around in the waiting room of the opposite platform, on this dark weekday afternoon (whatever happened to a thing called school, or work?). Drumchapel is served by trains between Balloch and Dalmuir to the west, and Glasgow Queen Street/Central, Drumgelloch and Larkhall to the east. The trains pass stop by roughly every 15 minutes. There is also a regular bus service that stops right at the entrance to the station - very useful. These are the, very frequent, no. 9's for the most part. There is a ticket office at Drumchapel and the new blue ScotRail colour scheme certainly brightens up the station's somewhat dilapidated appearance.

They told us where to place the our luggage, and its do-it-yourself, thus that room was a mess. Luggage all over the place, not utilizing the space efficiently. The hotel only had one working elevator and each can only fit 3 to 4 adults at a time. It was a challenge trying to use the elevator to go up and down, hopefully the other elevator has been fixed by now. The room was ok, we had two issues. Hotel WIFI - slower than a turtle... felt like we were using dialup service. Not sure if this was done on purpose or what, but they need to upgrade their wifi system. Room Layout - we had on full size bed and one sofa bed. When you expend the sofa bed out, it blocks the other folks using the other bed from accessing the restroom. They should flip this, so the sofa bed is by the window and the full size bed on the other side. Free breakfast & friendly staff.

Front desk was very friendly staff and very accommodating, had to use room key for lift (elevator) - staff jumped in to show me. Room not large but great for wife and self, very clean, nice little TV, not hear for glob tube anyway. Went out about 2100 (9ish PM) for a snack (no idea where to go), front desk man told me Pizza place next door, sure enough there was a little Italian restaurant, order pizza to go and grabbed a half pint cold Italian ale, all for less then £20, great experience, breakfast in the morning (included with room). So Uber has arrived in Glasgow. I've used this service in many other cities but really wasn't sure…read moreabout using it in Glasgow as I've never really had an issue getting taxis. We'd finished a boozy brunch yesterday and I decided to book an Uber home. Firstly, you need to watch for surge pricing. This pops up as a notification when you try to search for a taxi but I think they could have another reminder in the process, just so you really know what you'll be paying. It came up with 1.5x surge (meaning you pay 1.5x the normal rate because there's a high demand). I just cancelled and waited a few minutes before checking again, and the surge period had finished. I like the app and find it really easy to use - no worrying about where your taxi is because you can see it on the map, no worrying about paying by card or having cash as it's all done in the app so you just hop out at the end. Our taxi arrived within a few minutes and we were on our way. A trip into the city centre for us with our usual taxi company is £12.50, this ride was just £14, so the prices aren't really too different (our taxi company had a 15 minute + wait). I'm not going to say that I'd use Uber all the time in Glasgow but they're definitely handy to have. Also, in my experience (probably 30+ rides with Uber in various cities) the drivers tend to keep the cars in excellent condition.

I visited Glasgow yesterday for a day trip and as we arrived at the bus station I thought I'd check…read moreif there was any Uber cars around and was pleasantly surprised to find there was about 10 cars in and around the area. Über has only recently arrived to Belfast so any time I've checked there is never any cars available. Our car arrived within minutes - I think this is my favourite thing about Uber - you can tell exactly how much time you have before your car is going to arrive. So you can finish off your drinks and walk outside exactly as your taxi arrives. Our driver was pleasant and chatty. He mentioned that he can review passengers and that passengers can also rate him. (Little did he know that we were Yelp Elites and he was getting reviewed anyway). The fair from the bus station to the west end area of Glasgow cost less that £5 and the receipt was emailed to me within minutes of getting out of the car. It just comes straight out of your bank so there's no worrying about stopping for cash. All in all a great experience with Uber and I'll definitely use them again!

Like Cardonald and Hillington East, Hillington West is frankly one of the most dullest stations on…read morethe whole ScotRail network. Unstaffed, unattractive and served by only a small number of the trains that pass through it - a half-hourly Gourock-Glasgow services plus some peak-hour extras - it is unlikely to win any "Station of the Year" competition. It is, however, a station none the less and performs a vital function - serving the nearby industrial estates and residential area. One wonders what it would be like to live in one of the houses here which are right next to the railway line and have trains speeding past your front garden at all hours - certainly not your average family home. Platform access is via a footbridge, making the station look pretty much like a carbon copy of Hillington East all in all.

Hillington west is a pooular station for people who work in the industrial estate mostly although…read moresome do use it for the housing in the area. Plus points are long platforms and a regular service to/from Glasgow. Bad points are its very isolated at night & the ticket office is only open to early afternoons Mon-Sat. Shelter facilities available but wind can still blast in as these are pretty basic.
