When you read the 5 stars review, check to see if the reviewers are Asian. I am 100% Vietnamese and I do not endorse this place. First it's super small and the aisle should be a one way because there's no way two people can be walking in the same aisle. Definitely not going to be "socially distant" in the store. Second the selection of Asian product is limited. You pretty much only get 1 brand of any product so there's no choosing . Third, their mark up for their items is at least $150%. I found a similar item at the only other store (West Coast Grocer" for half the price. They are definitely over price, but if you are 1 of the only two Asian Markets in Bham, I guess you can jack up your price because you can. Fouth-- parking off the busy street can be dangerous getting in and out. Cars along Meridian don't seem to know there's a street speed limit, not a highway. Watch out for cars getting in and out of your car. It gets a 2 stars because it at least has more Asian products then Fred Meyers or Safeway. Save your money and go to West Coast Grocer. You'll get more options and half the price. Still better than going to Seattle but not if your lower competition is less than a 2 miles away on the same street. read more

Service and food here is always good. The best spot to get any sort of ramen or pho ingredients! Great produce too.

This store is great! The owners are helpful and if items are out of stock, they would let me know when it will arrive. It is a bit small and aisles are narrow but if you been there a few times it is easy to navigate and get what you need. They do have a good selection of fresh veggies. I love these mom and pop shops and it is quite disappointing to read how one reviewer would rather go to big companies like TT or ranch 99. Small, tidy and clean and packed to the gills w/ all your Asian ingredients--noodles galore, frozen dumplings, packaged spices/seasonings, jars of sauces, canned goods and even some fresh quality produce: gai lon, napa cabbage, baby bok choy, etc., etc., sweets and even some Asia goods, like cooking utensils and such, and Chinese red envelopes to use to give a gift of money; just unbelievable to find such a gem in Bellingham. The owners (dressed in warm jackets and hats) are very kind, courteous and try to be helpful with their limited English. I went in today .. a very cold day--they do not have a heating system; keeps everything fresh that's for sure! read more

I really like this market! Yes, it's expensive but the food stays more fresh from here than Fred Meyer's fresh food. I like their selection even though it's small. The place is cozy and a good experience! I usually go there once or twice a month. Love the owners too they are sweet. read more

The reason why I think this place is OK or just 3 stars, is probably because I am from Vancouver and I am spoiled with cheap prices on Asian sauces and treats. I found out that Bellingham has this one and only Asia market and really want to check it out. At the same time, I wanted to see if there are any deals on the LKK sauces (which are made in USA or HK). Guess because they don't have competitors, they charge outrageous prices. For me its not worth a visit. Plus I go to Seattle quite frequent and there is 99 Ranch or Uwajimaya. Or in Vancouver there is T&T and other supermarkets. Totally not worth it for me. But for Bellingham local what choices do they have? Vancouver or Seattle? Either way its 1.5 hour away. Its a very small market with very narrow isles. Things are pretty crammed in. At the back are bags and bags of rice (I think - I didn't check to make sure). One guy manning the store. I am guessing the owner lives upstairs. Will not come back! read more

When I moved to Bellingham from Los Angeles one of my biggest worries was the availability of products I'd need to cook asian food. As with most people, the food my mother cooked while growing up always reminds me of home and in order to make Bellingham home I knew I'd have to cook some of her recipes here. Luckily, my boyfriend has been living here for several years and pointed me in the direction of Asia Market (as it's advertised on the store front). This store had almost EVERYTHING I could hope for. Silver Swan Soy Sauce, Mama Sita's Tocino mix, shrimp chips, fishballs, noodles for mami and ramen, the list goes on and on. They even had sitaw, which are long and wrinkled green beans, although I had to come back a second time to find it. It seems their fresh vegetables are on regular rotation and they have very limited quantities, so once they're out you're out of luck. Because they managed to cram a wealth of products into a tiny space, (its really easy to feel claustrophobic, though getting crushed to death by asian products wouldn't be a terrible way to go in my opinion,) its kind of difficult to find stuff. Not to worry though, the people who run the store know where EVERYTHING is and have no problem pointing them out. I ask them for new and obscure things every time I go in and they always point it out patiently. The store is remarkably clean despite the vast amount of stock they house, and they even have have a refrigerator and freezer section in the back. And the best part? When I go to pay up at the front, the lady (who isn't Filipino) seems to have a great deal of knowledge regarding Filipino food and always asks me what I'm cooking. When I tell her, she up sells appropriate products accordingly. Oh, you're making Kare-Kare? We have bagoong (shrimp paste) if you need it. You're making sinigang? We have kang-kong (water spinach). This Asian store is small and compact. There is ample parking along the street and it's easy to find off of Meridian. The products carried by this store is limited perhaps due to a small Asian population. When I went on a Saturday afternoon, I found mostly dry goods and spices/sauces. Found this gem just by luck while in Bellingham looking for some ingredients. This is a super small store that is packed to the roof with great product! Has pretty much every Asian ingredient you can think of. SUPER great selection of noodles and some really great quality rice. When I was looking for a local place to get some Asian ingredients, I came across this little market on Meridian. For a small place, they offer a wide variety of ingredients, good choice in noodles, and even some particular things I was looking for (e.g., fried tofu, kaffir lime leaves). The owners are very friendly and both times I have been there, I have been offered help when it became obvious that I was wandering the aisles looking for items on my list. It is a little pricier than I would like, but that's what I would expect for a small store that is basically the only game in town. There is another Asian market in town, and I am not sure how that compares. But I would be perfectly happy with this store even if it is the only option in town. This is the only store like this in Bellingham and it's amazing and authentic. They have every kind of packaged ramen you can think of. Anytime I get the urge to try Asian cooking, they always have the ingredients I need; especially if I've never heard of the ingredients before. This is no easy feat for smaller towns, but Bellingham is home to a pretty bitching Asian market. I couldn't believe they had a few bags of pan de sal left! While it may be a little difficult to find stuff (it's not a huge space, but coming from New York, it's not unnavigable), you can always ask, and they are super helpful. I tried to give it no stars, but was forced to give ut one to submit my review. It was disgusting to find out that I was charged more than what the price of the sweet potatoes. The price was $1.29/lb and when I was told that it cost me $5.69 after using their weighing scale that didn't display anything for the customer to see, I became suspicious that I was about to decide not to buy it. True enough, my home registered the weight of 2.75 lbs. so at $1.29/lb, it should only be $3.55. It's a lesson learned not to go back to this store. read more

I made it a point to check them out. Lots of asian prepackaged foods, mostly vietnamese products. I was looking for plain puffed chicharron like Angelo's brand, and they had Marty's chicharrones buy only salt & vinegar. However, the best thing was their in house banh mi. OMG it was VERY good. They had several flavors. I usually get the pork pate cold cuts from other places or get it also with grilled pork. However, I did not want the mortadella in the cc combo. I also got a passion fruit coconut jelly milk tea. I went back to the car and my inSO immediately tore my sandwich in half. We both had some. I got it with no jalapeno. The bread was flaky and soft not the usual hard stale crust and innards that scratch and hurt your gums when you bite. The bread was heavenly. I absolutely loved that banh mi. The flavor of the grilled pork and sauce was unbelievable. I wanted to make a return trip and buy at least 2 next time. If you like banh mi, this is the place. read more

The owner, Hong, has been here for 29 years and makes weekly trips to Seattle to re-stock his store. Parking is a challenge but just drive into the store's driveway from Meridian and park ANYWHERE behind the delivery vans as long as there is room for cars to go in or out. Well, you're in luck - no long drive necessary because the Asia Oriental Market has just about anything you could be looking for. From sauces whose names I can't even pronounce, to ramen, to rices, to exotic flours, to soups, to fresh noodles, they've pretty much got it all. And if they don't have it, ask for it. There are a few corners of the store that only the sweet owners seem to know about. The place might not seem very big, but THEY SEEM TO HAVE EVERYTHING! They will also give you recipe advice if you see something interesting (but aren't sure what to do with it). There is also a decent selection of Asian dishes, cookware, and other fun delights for your kitchen shelves. My only complaint is that they really should be in a larger shop. As it stands, it's pretty cramped inside but you can just about find anything and everything you're looking for in terms of asian foods and ingredients. It's pretty much a mom and pop operation but the owner is very friendly and she definitely goes out of her way to help you find things and make you feel welcome. This little store is packed tightly with many wonderful surprises. I've been here several times and recently was looking for Ho Shou Wu, which is an adrenal support. The owner said he had some in the back and brought me a good-sized box of Fo-Ti root slices, which is the same thing. Very reasonable price ($22 I think) and I am so happy to have this help. Many delicious foods that are difficult to find at the usual store here in Bellingham. Frozen section and refrigerated also. Fresh veg is limited, but there is some.
