Fried 2 Fish, 6 Oyster Platter with fried shrimp and fried rice
    Sharonda D.

MIXED FEELINGS: FROG OR OYSTER?? Mmm I don't know where to start with this review. I'm having mixed feelings about the experience I had at this establishment. I was referred to this restaurant by one of my high school students who raved and raved about how delicious the food is and about the big portions of food that you receive at a reasonable price. So, I decided my husband and I could take the opportunity to see what this establishment has to offer before going to the movies to see the new Bob Marley movie. It was the perfect plan so that we would not spend too much money on expensive movie food. However, I wish we would have just purchased the expensive movie food instead because my experience at this establishment was not a positive one. I was highly disappointed. Firstly, when hubby and I arrived, there was an older gentleman who greeted us as we walked in. He was really nice and reminded me of an elderly Asian man who is full of wisdom and philosophical knowledge. Customer service was excellent. He treated us very kindly and was very attentive to our needs while we dined. Secondly, we ordered the fried okra for our appetizer and we ordered a seafood platter for our entree in which we shared. It consisted of 2 pieces of fish, 6 oysters, and 6 shrimp accompanied by a side of shrimp fried rice and a beautiful and fresh garden side salad. The fried okra was hands down absolutely delicious and fried to perfection. The fish and shrimp were also hands down absolutely delicious! All were fried to perfection and possessed a nice crunchy texture and not a soggy texture which I despise! So, I have to give them their props because they fried the okra, the fish, and the shrimp just splendidly! The shrimp fried rice was AHHH-MAZING! I highly recommend the fried rice for anyone who loves great tasting shrimp fried rice. You will not be disappointed. Also, the fried seafood was not heavily doused with salt which is a plus in my book. I hate it when seafood is overly seasoned with salt because it's naturally salty anyway. Now, for the disappointing part of the meal. I absolutely love fried oysters especially when fried to perfection. However, these supposedly oysters that I was served were soggy and huge! They were fried crunchy on the outside but soggy on the inside which means they were cooked too fast. I had one or two small oysters out of six oysters but the other four were giant. My husband commented on one of the oysters when I picked it up and he said that it looked like a chicken wing. I have never seen oysters so freaking big in my life. I picked up another one to inspect it and I swear to God and on my life that it looked exactly like a small frog but too big to be an oyster. It had four legs and the body of a frog. This completely ruined my appetite and I did not eat them. I should've taken a close up picture of them but I wasn't thinking clearly because I was appalled by what I was witnessing. I couldn't even finish the rest of my meal but my husband was enjoying himself because he doesn't like oysters anyway so he was good. However, I had already eaten the smaller oysters in which I picked with because they were soggy and not crunchy like the fish and shrimp. They were actually oysters though, because they looked and tasted like oysters. Before biting into the bigger oysters, I tore it apart to see what it looked like on the inside and guys when I tell you it did not even resemble the inside of an oyster, I am telling you the honest truth! I shoved it to the side and covered it with a napkin so that my husband would not see. I did not want to ruin his appetite as well. The one that looked exactly like a frog, I hid that one from hubby as well and I dared not break it apart to inspect it. I did not tell hubby about it until a few days later. His reaction was, "oh wow! I was enjoying myself and going in while you were struggling trying to keep from vomiting." Then he said, "I'm glad I don't like oysters." In conclusion, Asian and Mini's seafood is a hole-in-the-wall type of establishment that serves delicious perfectly fried seafood. Oftentimes, one can find the best tasting fried seafoods at a hole-in-the-wall establishment somewhere in the hood. They remind me of Kim's Seafood restaurant, an establishment that was in the hood where I grew up on the Northeast side of town in Lakewood. It's still in business today and I would always order fish, shrimp, and oysters from them when I was a teenager. I know an oyster when I see one and I know what a frog looks like when I see one. I understand that mistakes happen and that they probably did not intend to put a frog on my plate. I also understand that some people enjoy eating frogs and turtles and other exotic foods but I do not eat that type of food and I am sickened by the thought of it being on my plate. I will not return to this restaurant and I really wanted to put them on my must-return-list. The food is good, visit at your own risk.

It's been over 6 years since my last review so I am way over due to refresh it. My overall opinion hasn't changed since then. It is still very positive. Yelp tells me that I have now eaten here 28 times and I don't live nearby but whenever I am in the area, I give this place serious consideration for a visit. Today I stopped by for lunch for a bowl of their seafood gumbo. It comes with white rice on the side and my bowl had plenty of seafood, sausage, okra, etc. in a delicious roux. I enjoyed every spoonful. On previous visits, I have also devoured their fried seafood offerings (fish, shrimp, oysters, etc), yummy po boys, good french fries and one of my favorite versions of cole slaw. Seriously, everything on the menu is very good and priced extremely reasonable. They also also an everyday lunch menu too. This is a table service but casual restaurant run by a small family. The owner staffs the dining room and usually waits on tables. He is one of the nicest people you will ever have take your order and take care of you. This restaurant has become a mainstay for the neighborhood providing good tasting and inexpensive meals. Come eat here.

Mmm what a gem ! My bf, a friend and i came in 50 min before close ( i try not to do that ) and they took very good care of us . The boys started off with wonton soup and finished it before i could even get a photo ! Very large portions and the chicken and beef skewers were fresh ! We just moved into the neighborhood behind this establishment and i can't wait to try the grilled mahi mahi ! Bonus : the veggies have phenomenal flavor and the skewers were overly soaked in teriyaki. We will be back !!

Heard about this place on FB and wanted to try because they liked it so much. It was close to home, but I drove past because it is in a shopping plaza strip. Pushed back off the street. Definitely worth stopping. Food was fresh & hot! Great flavor & even my picky, picky son finished his plate & then the rest of my husbands. Portions were large (had to take mine home) and prices were very reasonable. When you leave, don't forget the take out menu! You'll be back

Fast and friendly service!! The shrimp pad Thai is one of the best I've had in the area. I like that that the pad Thai isn't heavy on the sauce...the flavor was just right! We also had the chicken lo mein and fried rice... great flavor! Everything tasted fresh!! We forgot about this place .... but will be sure to be back again soon!!

First time here. Bought to go fried fish and shrimp lunch special. Great price and quality of food is good too! I didn't fancy the tartar sauce, seems home made but won't knock them on that. Cocktail sauce wasn't bad. Will def come back to try other dishes.

It was delicious and lots of delicious mudbugs. Wasn't really hungry enough for a platter of mudbugs so just tried the ceviche. To be honest I didn't remember what it was. Well it was larger than I expected and so I was unable to finish it. It was full of seafood. The sauce could have used some horseradish. All and all a good find. Once we ordered our drinks which were good, same for the zucchini. Crawfish had the perfect flavor. Our waitress was friendly and attentive so that's always nice. When we went it wasn't busy. The dessert the cheesecake was good. We were told to get the bread pudding but we wanted chocolate cake. Even though it looked delicious it unfortunately was not. It only took one bite to realize it wasn't good. Husband said it had freezer burn. I took a small bite and it was hard. The flavor was like eating dirt it left this taste like when you open a fridge that's been closed for years and you get that smell from not being used and you can even taste it, it was like that. But hey 1 thing out of all the rest which was great won't keep us away. Maybe next time we will get the pudding LMFAO!

Came here on a Saturday with some friends, as we're touring Texas of BBQ and Crawfish. This was a…read moreCrawfish weekend for us, and has been on my list for quite some time. The reviews are really great for this place, so I had high hopes. Getting here was quite easy, parking was a bit full by the time we arrived, but we manged to all find spaces. You walk up to the trailer and place your order. They had a special going 5 lbs for $40, which I think was a pretty good deal. Comes with corn and potato, we opted for all corn, and then I added a sausage. You walk over to the tent, hand them your order card, and they hand it over to you. All the crawfish is seasoned in one flavor, and then you can just dipping options. We went with the garlic butter, and then tried the cajun mayo dip as well. The seating is great, they have covered and uncovered, and then an inside space. We went with a covered outdoor table, bc they were covered by trees, and it was a nice day out. We opened up our boxes, camera ate first, and then we dug in. The seasoning on the crawfish was perfect for me. Some would've liked it a bit more spicy, so if you like spicy, bring some hot sauce or a little ziplock with your fave spicy seafood seasoning. The sausage was really good too, had a nice snap to it. One of my friends said it had cheese in it, which I didn't notice until my last bite, when I got a biteful of melty cheese. That was a new one for me. Albeit a nice surpise, just wasn't expecting it, as I hadnt had that at a seafood boil before, more so of a bbq type of thing. There's also an area you can order drinks, sodas, and waters, and lots of big bins to throw your plates away. There's a bathroom on the inside, so if you need to go, or just wanna wash your hands. I hadn't been out to this area before too, so I wonder if they do live music. It was a great day to be outside, enjoy the weather and some crawfish. I'll be back fasho!

Made it here just in the nick of time before crawfish season was over. A current obsession of my…read morefriends and I is crawfish and we've been trying to try all the hot spots during the season. This place came highly recommended online so we made the drive all the way out to Tomball on a Sunday afternoon. Their hours vary so make sure and check the times before heading over. On this day they opened at 11. We came around noon and the place was popping. I don't know how to explain the general area. I feel like it's a few businesses on one plot of land. There's buildings and trailers to your left and right and not sure if they are all one entity. Han's is located at the back of the property in a little red trailer. You order at the trailer and then take your ticket to the side of the trailer where you hand over your ticket and get your food. There was very minimal staff interaction but they were friendly enough. The menu is very cut and dry. Crawfish and/or shrimp with minimal add ons and dipping sauces. It comes in one flavor basically which is a good ole Louisiana Cajun flavor. If you're a big fan of Viet Cajun style, this is not that. It almost looks unseasoned, but trust me, there is still flavor permeating throughout. Current prices are on a lower side compared to other popular spots. There is a minimum 2 pound limit and specials on 5 pounds. Shrimp is sold in 1/2 pound increments. Crawfish come with one corn and one potato. I got the minimum, plus 1/2 pound of headless, easy peel shrimp and added a sausage. Once you order, you walk a few feet to a team of people whom will put your order together. So basically there isn't a wait. If you want a drink, there are options at an outside bar and an inside barn bar. Seating is mostly outside with inside seating in the barn. Outside seating is mostly shaded and a perfect spot to set up shop when eating mud bugs. The crawfish was warm, but I like mine fresh out and steaming. So they are making big batches and plating is what I'm thinking. I liked the flavors alot. It had a light kick to it as is. I purchased a dry seasoning as well as garlic butter and combined it to make a delicious dipping sauce. To me, one of my favorite things was the sausage. I judge a place by that. The one offered here was delicious and had a nice cheesy, spicy bite to it. Han's is a long way from home but the drive here was worth it. I will definitely be making this a regular in my rotation during crawfish season.
