The dirty little secret about outlet malls is that much of the merchandise in stores is actually inferior made-for-outlet stuff instead of the quality premium stuff you see in the non-outlet stores. There are several shoe shops in Vaughan Mills and Halton Hills (Toronto Premium Outlets) that do this, such as Nike, Adidas, and Reebok. ASICS doesn't; this shop has their real shoe lineup with no compromises. Unfortunately, as a result, almost none of their shoes are discounted. First, I went to the Vaughan Mills ASICS shop. The lady measured my feet with a brannock device and determined I was a size 9.5 2E, even though my previous shoes were size 11 Nike and Reebok. I got the black GT-1000 3 but couldn't test it much in-store because I'd miss the bus. After coming home, I tried it out for a bit and was very unsatisfied. They were just too tight and the heel was slipping! Went back the next day and got a size 10.5 2E. That didn't solve the heel slipping problem. The heel counter for the GT-1000 3 was nonexistent and the ASICS employees hadn't realized this. Unsatisfied with the service, I went to the Halton Hills ASICS shop and stayed there for three hours to try out different models. The staff at Halton Hills seemed more inviting: they didn't insist that my feet were of a certain size. Eventually, I settled on the black Nimbus 17 size 11.5 D. It's wonderful! The heel slipping is gone because there's an actual heel counter. The Nimbus 17 is ASICS' top-of-the-line shoe, so I wondered why the staff at Vaughan Mills didn't suggest it to me. This store does not stand behind its products !!!! I recently purchased a pair of running shoes for my son that cost me 200.00 ( no savings over the regular retail store ) , He went back himself a couple of days later to complain they weren't fitting properly, and caused blisters on the sides of his feet. The manager told him to switch to polyester socks, and they would be fine. My son continued to wear them, and developed huge blisters that looked like bunions on the sides of his feet. He then attempted to return them again, and was told they were too worn to be resold, and was refused. I then went back myself and was told the same story, despite my explanation how he had tried to return them after the first wearing. I was told the best the store could do was to give me a small discount if I purchased another pair of running shoes, which I refused to do, since I had already purchased a pair which were not fit for use. The store's warranty states that refund with proof of purchase is offered within 30 days for any reason whatsoever. That is a blatant lie !!!! I phoned head office, and was told the manager was away for a week, and would hear back from him. I'm still waiting a week later. I guess Asics Canada can only afford one manager, and when he's away there's no one else who can handle customer complaints. What a joke !!!! read more
