Drinks are averagly priced not cheap but not expensive neither! The staff were very friendly and chatty, and children are welcome in there too. They do serve food but i havent eaten in there so i cant really comment on that. Its not the sort of place i would go and have a drink on a night out but it is perfect for popping in during the day to meet up and have a natter with the girlies should that be your thing!

They have an Open Mic Night every other Tuesday, which seems to attract genuinely talented musicians. I have been to a few of their 'special events' including a Charity Day, and Beer festival - both were very family friendly, well organised, and genuinely enjoyable. The way a proper pub should be!

Overall, I'm truly at about 3.5 for this place but I'll round down to 3 because 4 is definitely too high. I'd try it again to see if in Lincoln again, but overall it just seemed like a decent pub with decent cask ale. It's a Marston's pub so has selections from the Marston's range of beers as the primary offerings, which is not a problem. They had some good ones - Old Thumper, Pedigree, and Hobgoblin, plus 61 Deep which I have not had and one empty pump. They have 5 pumps in total. That is a big plus, but they had nothing particularly special. The beer (Old Thumper) was in good condition but not perfect condition so it could have been better. It seems pretty good but was a bit slapdash in service and how it was run. It was very crowded. The place itself is nice and has a great location between the castle and cathedral. It definitely gets 4 for the place and location, as well as the decent range of good cask ales, 3 stars for the less then perfect condition of the beer and the general impression that the service and cleaning are decent but could be better.

The current licensees Simon and Belinda ensure that customers both old and new are made to feel welcome and will do their best to ensure your visit is a positive one. They are backed by an excellent staff team who are knowledgable about the range of real ales stocked and the excellent food served. The Malt is divided into two bars; one side is a working mans bar (but girlies are welcome!!) where for the price of a couple of pounds you can become a member and enjoy discounted beer prices. and; the other side is the lounge, traditional in style and serving food where children are welcome (during food serving times.) In addition to the two bars, the upstairs of the Malt houses a snooker club (again with bargain membership and beer prices.) There is a small beer garden and smokers are catered for with a covered area. Real ale buffs will be in heaven here!! There is always a marvellous array of ales, some resident and some guests but all expertly kept and served. The Malt also hold regular beer festivals and is a member of CAMRA, often winning awards for excellence. Added to these is all the usual range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages you would expect to see. The food is all home made and cooked to order (real chips and vegetables, not frozen!!) The menu is extensive and most people are catered for including vegetarian. There are often specials and mon-sat tea-times are a real bargain with two courses for a fiver or one for three quid. On Sundays the chef serves a choice of roasts and booking is advisable as it is very popular!! There aren't really any negative comments one can make, maybe that people in wheelchairs may find it a bit difficult to access the toilets without assistance, but otherwise disabled people are made very welcome. Arrived a good 15 minutes before our booking time and informed the staff who asked if we were ready to start our meal which we said yes. Nearly an hour later after 3 separate enquiries about where 2 prawn cocktails and a soup had got to? no sign of any starters. Others who we noted had come in some time after us ordering "on the day" from the "normal" non Xmas menu were started and finished before ours made an appearance. Needless to say we left angry and hungry, we shan't be bothering again. Staff are totally lacking any form of management, what appeared to be the "Manager" was downright rude and each time he came out of the kitchen was filling his face with food (lucky him) the bar staff didn't know what a medium wine the bar maid said wines were'nt her thing!! Nestling close to Louth Parish Church,which has the tallest spire of any Parish Church in England. Three cosy rooms,especially the snug,which has a nice coal fire. Regular changes of Real Ales. Serves good food,try the home made Stilton and Broccoli quiche, good beer and there is a sausage festival held at the end of May. A chair by the fire is not to be sat it..it was the chair of a long term customer who died and he is said to get cross if anyone sits in it. It is also supposedly haunted by the ghost of a tall man, wearing a white cape. Until recently he was seen on frequent occasions, normally manifesting just before midnight. Worthfinding when visiting this great market Town and as it is on the edge of the market place it is easy to find. The market is a large old fashion type. On Weds it also has a farmers auction in the centre with rabbits and chickens, sacks of veg, bits of farm machinery etc. Sat. is also market day.
